[001] - Agar 1.3.2
by Wilbern Cobb (http://freshmeat.net/users/vedge/)

Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: User Interfaces
About: Agar is a toolkit for graphical applications. It features a modern
GUI system with an unobtrusive API. Agar can use different graphics
interfaces, such as SDL and OpenGL, and it has been ported to numerous
platforms, including game consoles and embedded systems. Agar is
implemented in C, but can be used from other languages.
Changes: A thorough audit and cleanup of the thread-safety code. It is now
safe to combine threads and OpenGL. Proper multiline editing in Textbox.
New widgets: Slider, Editable, and Graph. Keyboard handling and undersize
behavior of various widgets have been fixed. Small-integer/floating-point
bindings have been added to Scrollbar. Arbitrary widgets can now be
embedded into Table. Numerous cosmetic fixes were made to the GUI.
Building on Mac OS X 10.5 has been fixed.

[002] - AgileWiki 0.9.4 (COODBMS)
by Bill la Forge (http://freshmeat.net/users/laforge49/)
Sun, Mar 2nd 2008 12:19
Database
Documentation
Information Management
About: AgileWiki is meant to create software systems which are fluid,
easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever changing
requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics programming
paradigm, and semantic inferencing.
Changes: DRM factory now throws an exception when an unrecognized role is
encountered. The DRM factory now works more like the CowDb factory when
creating handles. DRM now uses the [more extensible] common eXpress logic.
DRM handles ENTs the same way CowDb does. Setting the name or well known
name now results in a call to the appropriate method in both the DRM and
CowDb. The setMyName DRM method now checks for the prior use of the same
name in the owner element.

[004] - Aloofix 0.7
by Aloof Schipperke (http://freshmeat.net/users/aloofschipperke/)
Sun, Mar 2nd 2008 17:21
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: Aloofix is conceptually similar to the Ubuntu JeOS (Just enough
OS), but much more aggressive when it comes to the term "just enough". The
build environment consists of a collection of Makefiles, scripts, and
configuration files capable of creating a bootable ISO image. This ISO
image contains a small set of scripts and utility programs for installing
Aloofix on a primary hard drive in a VM environment. The build environment
provides the raw materials for creating and provisioning a set of guest
instances for VirtualBox, VMWare, and Qemu.
Changes: Recipes for several add-on packages have been added: bash, bison,
gawk, m4, nasm, ncurses, patch, and strace. This release also includes a
recipe for Java JRE 1.5 as an add-on package. Support for local patch
files for the kernel and busybox has been added. Syslinux has been bumped
to 3.62, and e2fsprogs has been bumped to 1.40.7. This release has been
tested againsted Virtualbox 1.5.6. More documentation is included.

Information Management
Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business
About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.
Changes: A bug in the check-bars calculation for the RSS Limited symbology
was fixed.

About: Calcurse is a text-based calendar and scheduling application. It
helps keep track of events, appointments, and everyday tasks. A
configurable notification system reminds the user of upcoming deadlines,
and the curses based interface can be customized to suit user needs. All
of the commands are documented within an online help system.
Changes: This release has the ability to attach notes to appointments,
events, and todos. One can edit or view these notes with the help of an
external editor or pager. The HTML documentation was improved with the use
of CSS stylesheets. Some of the bugs addressed in this release include
proper handling of leap years.

by benxo (http://freshmeat.net/users/benxo/)
Sun, Mar 2nd 2008 12:19
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: dir2cast is a Web-based script to turn a directory of MP3s into a
podcast automatically. It will automatically use the ID3 fields from your
MP3s for the Author, Title, and similar fields in the podcast feed. ID3v2
is supported. The generated feed is cached and only updated if something
in the directory changes. The generated feeds have almost full support for
iTunes podcast tags. RSS Description, iTunes Subtitle, and iTunes Summary
can be set by dropping text files in the same folder.
Changes: Configuration is now done via one or more .ini files. You can
have one for the whole installation, and one per MP3 folder that you cast;
thus, casting several folders from one installation is now properly
supported.

by AN (http://freshmeat.net/users/aneuper/)
Sun, Mar 2nd 2008 12:06
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Filesystems
About: Freedup finds and eliminates duplicate files by linking them, and
thus reduces the amount of used disk space within one or more file
systems. By default, hardlinks are used on a single device, symbolic links
when the devices differ. A set of options allows you to modify the methods
of file comparison, the hash functions, the linking behavior, and the
reporting style. You may use batch or interactive mode. Freedup usually
only considers identical files, but when comparing audio or graphics
files, you may elect to ignore the tags.
Changes: When linking files, it is unavoidable to change the modification
and the access time of the directory the target belongs to. For cases
where this leads to additional (unwanted) actions, use the new -T option
to make freedup keep the modification times of the affected directories.
This option is added and documented. Makefile.tests is now more easily
readable and reduced in size.

Sun, Mar 2nd 2008 12:21
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
System :: Hardware
System :: Monitoring
About: GFreqlet is a GNOME applet for Linux that not only monitors CPU
frequency scaling, but also allows the end user to change the frequency or
governor with just a click. It automatically detects which frequencies and
governors your processor supports, so there is no configuration required.
The applet itself is not run as root, nor required to modify to run with
root ownership, but password prompts with gksudo if a superuser action is
required. GFreqlet is very straightforward and minimal, and just does what
it's supposed to.
Changes: This release adds support for Power Management (ACPI) on notebook
systems. It has new preferences for default frequency scaling on AC and

About: Laptop Mode Tools allows you to control various power management
settings based on AC/battery power state. Among other things, it controls
Linux's "Laptop Mode" feature that allows your hard drive to spin down for
extended periods. It can also control CPU frequency scaling and screen
blanking timeouts (both terminal and X). It supports automatic hibernation
when battery is low.
Changes: This release adds support for the /sys/class/power_supply kernel
interface to determine the power state, which is needed for kernel 2.6.24

[032] - LimeSurvey Stable 1.70+ Build 4395
by Carsten Schmitz (http://freshmeat.net/users/cronostitan/)
Sun, Mar 2nd 2008 12:14
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: LimeSurvey (formerly PHPSurveyor) is a Web application that
interacts with MySQL or MSSQL to develop surveys, publish surveys, and
collect responses to surveys. Once a survey has been created, data can be
inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen which presents
each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data entry screen. It
includes the capacity to generate individualized "tokens", so that
invitations can be issued to participants. It also has the capacity to set
conditions on whether questions will display (branching), numerous question
types, and a basic statistics function.
Changes: This relerase fixes several errors with email encoding. It fixes
invalid HTML in Dual Scale Matrix Question. Dutch and French translations
have been updated. Data submission problems with Safari 2.0.4 have been
fixed. An import problem from prior LS versions has been fixed. A problem
when the user wants to print answers has been fixed. XML export with PHP 5
is now possible.

[033] - Linux LiveCD Router 2.0.26 (Default Router)
by jaimeghirelli (http://freshmeat.net/users/jaimeghirelli/)
Sun, Mar 2nd 2008 17:13
About: Linux LiveCD Router allows you to share and firewall your broadband
connection and use WiFi. It works with DSL, cable modem, T1, and dial-up
connections and supports inexpensive hardware such as USB and PCMCIA WiFi
and ethernet cards. It does not require a hard disk. It is ideal for high
speed (5 Mbps+) ADSL lines, since most WAN ports on integrated routers do
not support speeds higher than 5 Mbps.
Changes: This release uses kernel 2.6.24-3. It has new ASUS EEEpc atl2
ethernet and madwifi drivers. It has a new option to install to hard disk,
USB flash, or SD memory cards. OpenVPN is included.

[034] - Logapp 0.9
by Michael Brunner (http://freshmeat.net/users/mibrunner/)
Sun, Mar 2nd 2008 08:08
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
System
About: Logapp is a wrapper utility that helps supervise the execution of
applications that produce heavy console output (e.g. make, CVS, and
Subversion). It does this by logging, trimming, and coloring each line of
the output before displaying it. It can be called instead of the
executable that should be monitored; it then starts the application and
logs all of its console output to a file. The output shown in the terminal
is preprocessed, e.g. to limit the length of printed lines and to show the
stderr output in a different color. It is also possible to automatically
highlight lines that match a certain regular expression. The output is
therefore reduced to the necessary amount, and all important lines are
easy to identify.
Changes: New options for command execution and logging environment
variables have been added. The data processing has been improved to
increase speed and prevent data corruption.

[036] - MirBSD Korn Shell R33
by mirabile (http://freshmeat.net/users/mirabile/)
Sun, Mar 2nd 2008 23:38
System :: Shells
About: The MirBSD Korn Shell (mksh) is an actively developed successor of
pdksh (the Public Domain Korn Shell), aimed at producing a shell good for
interactive use, but with the primary focus on scripting. It is intended
to be portable to most *nix-like operating systems as long as they're not
too obscure. mksh incorporates improvements from OpenBSD and Debian, as
well as bugfixes and enhancements developed for the MirOS, FreeWRT, and
MidnightBSD projects. The emacs command line editing mode is UTF-8
capable, and Byte Order Marks are ignored in scripts. The shell supports
large files, as well as all pdksh and some csh, AT&T ksh, and GNU bash
features, is compatible with the Bourne shell and POSIX (within limits),
has no limit on array sizes, and incorporates some other useful builtins
and features. While being already fast and small (without losing
functionality), flags to make it even smaller can be given at compile
time. An interactive shell reads "~/.mkshrc" on startup.
Changes: mksh now supports here documents (foo <<<$string) and string
replacement substitutions (${str/foo*bar/baz}). There are no longer
namespace conflicts between aliases and POSIX functions (e.g. for using
stop() as a function name in sysvinit scripts), so mksh no longer handles
being called as simply sh specially. The dot and source commands now
require an argument. The "print" builtin now has \x## and \u#### escapes
that emit raw octets and UTF-8, respectively.

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: A chapter about compile errors was added to the FAQ and read_me.
Several functions were added to the scanstri.s7i library. A new example
program (chk_all.sd7), which runs interpreted and compiled checks, was
added. Several memory leaks, which happened in the handling of
MEMORY_ERROR exceptions, were removed. The functions popen and cmd_sh were
improved to be consistent on all platforms. Now they use always '/' as a
path delimiter and '\\ ' to describe spaces in the command path. The gets
function for external_files was improved. A workaround was added for the
ftell() function under Windows.

Sun, Mar 2nd 2008 17:14
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Unified I/O is high performance Java I/O library. It features high
performance (due to buffering), memory management, the ability to access
streams, arrays, and files using the same interface, the ability to read
or write directly from or into primitive arrays, and optimized reading
over HTTP. Unified I/O also contains many utilities: Transformer,
BitInputStream and BitOutputStream, PackBits, a RLE4 and RLE8 decoder, a
base64 codec implementation, and many others.
Changes: To eliminate bugs, the interface has been simplified: methods
that used primitive arrays like read(short [] dest) or write(int [] src)
were made static and moved to utility classes. To prove that UIO streams
are working error free, test classes have been written that can compare
input from two streams or from a UIO stream and RandomAccessFile.
