Database
Documentation
Information Management
About: AgileWiki is meant to create software systems which are fluid,
easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever changing
requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics programming
paradigm, and semantic inferencing.
Changes: A new exit method for ending a script allows operations to return
an error result rather than throwing an exception. RoleML now supports
account creation and password management. Passwords have been secured.

[002] - AllianceP2P 0.9.8
by abe (http://freshmeat.net/users/abelau/)
Thu, Mar 6th 2008 03:55
Communications :: Chat
Communications :: File Sharing
About: AllianceP2P takes the best from BitTorrent and Direct Connect and
creates a decentralized and secure private P2P/friend-to-friend network
for instant messaging and file sharing. It supports file swarming
(multi-source download) and is Unicode capable.
Changes: A speed column is now shown in search results. It approximates
the download speed you will get when you choose to download the file. An
ETA is also shown for search results. Popup menus were added to the friend
and download tabs. Java 6.0 is now supported. Listening ports higher than
40000 are no longer selected. Files that you already have are shown
grayed-out in search results. The download grid in the download tab is
smarter about selecting downloads to display.

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: Atop is an ASCII full-screen performance monitor that is capable of
reporting the activity of all processes (even if processes have finished
during the interval), daily logging of system and process activity for
long-term analysis, highlighting overloaded system resources by using
colors, etc. At regular intervals, it shows system-level activity related
to the CPU, memory, swap, disks, and network layers, and for every active
process it shows the CPU utilization, the memory growth, priority,
username, state, and exit code.
Changes: The atop command shows the number of running and sleeping
(interruptible/non-interruptible) threads per process and shows the PPID
per process. The command atopsar is now able to make summary reports and
shows information about the top 3 most active processes per sample. In
both commands, several bugs have been fixed.

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3
About: Dovecot is an IMAP server whose major goals are security and
extreme reliability. It uses index files to optimally store the mailbox
state, which makes it very fast even with huge mailboxes. Indexes won't

[010] - Expect-lite 3.1.0
by Craig Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvmiller/)
Thu, Mar 6th 2008 10:36
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
About: Expect-lite is a wrapper for expect, created to make expect
programming even easier. The wrapper permits the creation of expect script
command files by using special character(s) at the beginning of each line
to indicate the expect-lite action. Basic expect-lite scripts can be
created by simply cutting and pasting text from a terminal window into a
script, and adding '>' '
Changes: This release adds 'math variable' permitting math operations, ie.
=$answer*$five/2.0. It supports arithmetic operators: + = * / %, and
bitwise operators: << >> & | ^. The result is always assigned to the 'math
variable'. Pseudo arrays have been added by permitting dereferencing of
variables on the left side of an equals assignment statement, except the
first variable name. Example: $two=2 $array$two=value ; === show value of
$array2. Limitation: additional variables on the left side (i.e. $two)
must only contain legal variable characters [A-Za-z0-9_].

Thu, Mar 6th 2008 03:52
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: IT++ is a C++ library of mathematical, signal processing, speech
processing, and communications classes and functions. It is being
developed by researchers in these areas and is widely used by researchers,
both in the communications industry and universities. Since 2004, IT++ is
also being developed as a part of the European Network of Excellence in
Wireless Communications (NEWCOM).
Changes: This release fixed incorrect calling of the BLAS zdotu_ function,
which caused blas_test and vec_test failures on some architectures (e.g.
Debian SPARC/Alpha/ARM) or when using non-standard optimization flags
(e.g. -fomit-frame-pointer). The problem is due to the fact that the
std::complex<double> C++ type is not compatible with COMPLEX in Fortran.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: KLone is a fully-featured, multi-platform framework which allows
dynamic Web pages to be written in C/C++ (with the usual <% code %>
style). The pages can then be embedded (in compressed and/or encrypted
form) into a single executable that also contains KLone's high-performance
HTTP/S server. Given its nature, it can be linked natively to any C/C++

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
About: libkdtree++ is a C++ template container implementation of
k-dimensional space sorting, using a kd-tree. It sports a theoretically
unlimited number of dimensions, and can store any data structure. Provided
the data structure, it provides operator[0 - k-1] to access the individual
dimensional components (arrays, std::vector already do) and a std::less
implementation for the type of dimensional components. It has support for
custom allocators, implements iterators, and provides standard find as
well as range queries. It has amortised O(lg n) time (O(n lg n) worst
case) on most operations (insert/erase/find optimised) and worst-case O(n)
space, and also provides a means to rebalance and thus optimise the tree.

[039] - rsyslog 3.12.1 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Thu, Mar 6th 2008 10:17
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for on-demand disk buffering, reliable syslog
over TCP, writing to databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and many more),
fully configurable output formats (including high-precision timestamps),
the ability to filter on any part of the syslog message, on-the-wire
message compression, and the ability to convert text files to syslog. It
is a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and able to work with the same
configuration file syntax.
Changes: This release is primarily aimed at bug fixing and code cleanup.
An important bug that could cause message loss in queued mode (if the
receiver went down) was fixed, and a new capability has been added to
discard timestamps received on local Unix sockets. This is needed to
prevent ill-behaving programs from messing up the system log. Many
internal workings have been cleaned up and improved, and library plugin
modules have been introduced. Portability has been enhanced, and rsyslog
now compiles on HP UX. This is a recommended update for all users of the
v3 branch.

[041] - SPWrapper 0.9
by bricconi (http://freshmeat.net/users/bricconi/)
Thu, Mar 6th 2008 13:42
Database
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: SPWrapper is a source code generator whose input is an SQL
statement, or with some limitations the name of a stored procedure. Each
SQL statement become a Java class, iterable to fetch results if the
statement is a SELECT. It is possible to generate Python classes for the
cx_Oracle module. SPWrapper is designed to require little configuration:
it tries to automatically guess input parameters form SQL code, and output
parameters from the SQL result set fetched. All the SQL statements can be
translated to source code, even those with proprietary syntax. It
currently supports 4 databases for Java (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL and SQL
Server) and Oracle with Python. A Netbeans plugin is also available (for
stored procedures only).
Changes: With this release, it is also possible to generate Python classes
for the cx_Oracle module. The core of the project has been refactored to
make it simple to support new programming languages. Writing a Java class
and a configuration file is enough to support a new database or a new
language.

Thu, Mar 6th 2008 13:51
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: SymPy is a symbolic manipulation package, written in pure Python.
Its aim is to become a full featured CAS in Python, while keeping the code
as simple as possible in order to be comprehensible and easily extensible.
Currently, Sympy has only around 1600 lines of code (including comments),
and its capabilities include basic arithmetics, basic simplification,
series expansion, functions (exp, ln, sin, cos, tan, etc.),
differentiation, integration (currently it can do only very simple
integrals), basic substitution, arbitrary precision integers and
rationals, standard (Python) floats, basic complex numbers, and symbolic
limits.
Changes: This release is 2 times faster on average than before. The
integrator was improved, and can handle most of the basic integrals. The
interactive experience with isympy was improved through adding support for
containers to pretty-printer. The plotting facility now supports geometry
objects directly. The pretty-printer now uses Unicode by default.
Recognition of geometric sums was generalized. The SymPy User's Guide has
been started. Many bugfixes were made.
