[003] - auto-nng 1.4
  by Jan Behrens (http://freshmeat.net/users/jbehrens/)
  Sun, Mar 9th 2008 13:57

Scientific/Engineering

About: auto-nng is a program for analysis and classification of data,
using artificial neuronal networks. You can feed a number of datasets
consisting of certain input and output parameters into the program to make
it try to find a mathematical correlation between the input and output
parameters. Afterwards, the program tries to calculate the output
parameters for datasets which only have known input parameters.

Changes: The mutation rate is now specific for every weight, allowing
mutation to be directed to those weights where mutation was most
successful.

[009] - DUMA 2.5.13
  by Hayati Ayguen (http://freshmeat.net/users/hayguen/)
  Sun, Mar 9th 2008 18:29

Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Testing

About: DUMA (Detect Unintended Memory Access) stops your program on the
exact instruction that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer.
GDB will then display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works
by using the virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of
each buffer: touch that, and your program stops. It can catch formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs. DUMA is a fork of Bruce Perens' Electric
Fence library.

Changes: There is a major bugfix for a hang of the testoperators test case
on 64-bit Linux platforms (x86_64 and MIPS64).

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Sound Synthesis

About: Minicomputer is a standalone Linux realtime software synthesizer
for creating experimental electronic sounds as they are often used in but
not limited to industrial music, IDM, EBM, Glitch, sound design, and
minimal electronic. It is monophonic but can produce up to 8 different
sounds at the same time, so its good e.g. for drum synthesis. It uses JACK
as a real-time audio infrastructure and can be controlled via MIDI. The
synthesis is advanced subtractive: two oscillators generate complex
waveforms going into a morphing formant filter. An additional oscillator,
7 envelopes, a delay line, and flexible modulation routing for each sound
voice gives the sound designer possibilities like a modular synthesizer
without the hassle. Instant recall with 512 sound programs and 128 multi

System :: Filesystems

About: MP3FS is a read-only FUSE filesystem that transcodes FLAC audio
files to MP3 on the fly when opened and read. It is useful to enable the
use of your FLAC collection with software and/or hardware that only
understands MP3s. It is also a novel alternative to traditional MP3
encoder applications. Just use your favorite file browser to select the
files you want encoded, and copy them somewhere.

Changes: The Transcoder constructor was cleaned up, and potential leaks on
failures were fixed. Mono files are correctly handled, fixing a segfault. A
note about mounting from /etc/fstab was added. Unicode tag support was
added.

  Sun, Mar 9th 2008 18:32

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: OfflineIMAP is a tool to simplify email reading. It allows you to
read the same mailbox from multiple computers and ensures that your
changes will be automatically reflected on all computers. You can use
various mail clients to read a single box or read mail while offline with
full synchronization when you reconnect. You can read IMAP mail with
readers that lack IMAP support (same goes for SSL). OfflineIMAP's
multithreaded synchronization algorithm performs between 10 and 60 times
faster than many mail readers' internal IMAP support, and it can be used
even with mail readers that support IMAP already. There are five available
user interface modules, including scripted execution, an interactive
terminal interface, and GUI interfaces.

Changes: Kerberos support has been added. Gmail and LocalStatus bugs have
been fixed. There are Debian enhancements.

[043] - udpfwd 1.0
  by Mario Juric (http://freshmeat.net/users/majuric/)
  Sun, Mar 9th 2008 22:12

Internet
System :: Networking

About: udpfwd is a stateful userspace UDP port forwarder that can
accomplish SNAT/DNAT. It listens for packets received on a given port,
changes their source IP addresses to the address of the local host
("SNAT"), and forwards them to the destination (dest_ip:dest_port) from a
randomly chosen local sending port. Once chosen, the
source_ip:source_port:send_port triplet is unique, allowing for connection
tracking. Conversely, when a packet is received on send_port, its
destination is changed to source_ip:source_port ("DNAT"), and forwarded
onwards.
