Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Anyterm provides a terminal emulator on a Web page using Javascript
and an Apache module. The module forks a shell and communicates with the
script using XMLHTTP on port 80, or securely using SSL. This provides you
with shell access to your machine from almost any Web browser, even when
firewalls are in the way. Experimental features include support for
standalone operation without Apache, and the my.anyterm.org service
provides access without the need to install anything on your servers.

Changes: This version adds scrollback to the terminal emulation.

[005] - Arg_parser 1.1 (Stable)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 08:18

Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: Arg_parser is an argument parser that follows POSIX and GNU
conventions for command line arguments. It is implemented as a C++ class,
and is simpler, easier to use, and safer than "getopt_long". Arg_parser
does not modify its arguments, nor uses any global variables. So you may
create more than one parser in your program if you need or want to.
Arg_parser can also parse options from configuration files. A C language
version is also available.

Changes: A C language version has been added. Options requiring an
argument no longer accept an empty argument.

[006] - AutoLaTeX 5.5
  by sgalland (http://freshmeat.net/users/sgalland/)
  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 05:33

Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: AutoLaTeX is a tool for managing small to large sized LaTeX
projects. The typical AutoLaTeX input file is simply a series of variable
definitions in a Makefile for the project. This Makefile was automatically
generated by a provided Perl script. The user can easily perform all
required steps to do such tasks as preview the document or produce a PDF
file. AutoLaTeX will keep track of files that have changed and how to run
the various programs that are needed to produce the output. One of the
best features of AutoLaTeX is to provide translation rules to
automatically generate the figures which will be included into the PDF.

Changes: This version fixes several bugs inside the Gtk interface and
provides a new version of the EPS to PDF translator because the TeXlive
distribution does not provide the same tools as the teTeX distribution.

[015] - DBAHelper 0.2.6
  by Izzy (http://freshmeat.net/users/izzysoft/)
  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 04:58

Database

About: DBAHelper is a collection of scripts to ease the daily maintenance
work of Oracle database administrators. Examples are moving objects
between tablespaces, analyzing schemata, and rebuilding invalid indices.
Also included is a little framework to simplify the use of RMAN (this
framework depends on the use of Oracle 10g with the Recovery Area enabled
and properly sized, so all backups go there).

Changes: The "restore_ctl" command was added to rman.sh to restore a lost
controlfile. Some minor fixes were made. The menu was split up. The
"rmanw" script was added. In ExportOracleDB, bzip2 compression no longer

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for instant scalable full-text
search on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It
features a built-in database crawler following user-defined SQL,
incremental indexing, user-controllable result ranking, the ability to
return results with highlights (like Google), and categorized result
counts (like Amazon). It can easily integrate with other languages with
XML/JSON/HTML. There is a UI for all operations, so no Java coding is
necessary. Deleted or updated records in database can be synchronized
also.

Changes: Wildcard highlighting was enabled. Default support was added for
Apache Derby database. The quartz scheduler was upgraded to 1.6.0 to fix a
scheduler error on Mac.

[017] - dhcpcd 3.2.3
  by UberLord (http://freshmeat.net/users/uberl0rd/)
  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 05:35

About: dhcpcd is an RFC2131-, RFC2132-, and RFC1541-compliant DHCP client
daemon. It gets an IP address and other information from the DHCP server,
automatically configures the network interface, and tries to renew the
lease time according to RFC2131 or RFC1541.

Changes: This version should be fully RFC compliant. The LPF filter (like
BPF for the BSDs) is used to keep CPU time down to a minimum. Annoying
ICMP unreachable messages on Linux were fixed. STAILQ is used instead of
custom linked lists.

About: DynaStop is a utility to examine IPv4 based addresses for Exim and
procmail for the purpose of filtering based upon patterns defined by the
administrator. This can be a pivotal factor in email filtering and server
load management, since dynamic IP addresses are typically used for
dial-up, DHCP, and DSL accounts. All of which have a designated mail

[022] - EiffelStudio 6.2.7.2437 (Development)
  by Emmanuel Stapf (http://freshmeat.net/users/manus_eiffel/)

Database
Office/Business
Software Development

About: EiffelStudio is an IDE for the Eiffel language (ECMA-367, ISO/IEC
25436, and ACM Software System Award 2006). It includes: Eiffel compiler,
Eiffel editor, Eiffel code browsing tool, graphical design tool,
refactoring tool, debugger, profiler, and Eiffel analysis tools (Metrics,
Dependencies, etc.). Eiffel generates C or CLI for .NET or Mono. Eiffel
applies O-O principles and Design by Contract for high-quality software.
Many Eiffel libraries are included: ADT, network, GUI, database, parsing
(including an Eiffel parser), XML, Web, COM, and more.

Changes: This release implements an inherited/original feature comment
specification so there is no need to replicate comments when redefining
routines. It applies this change to all formatter tools. Compiler issues
when handling expanded generic classes used in generic classes are fixed.
There is a breaking change in the signature of {SPECIAL}.same_items and
{SPECIAL}.all_default to take an extra argument. It should only have been
used by ARRAY, and should be harmless. If you have a compilation error,
simply add '0' as the first argument of your call and let the authors know
if this is critical.

[023] - eINIT 0.40.0
  by jyujin (http://freshmeat.net/users/jyujin/)
  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 17:03

System :: Boot :: Init

About: eINIT is an alternative init system. It's quite fast, since it can
potentially be used without the help of any scripting at all, but it is
still flexible and extremely modular. The focus is on speed and
parallelisation, mostly with embedded devices and low-downtime servers in
mind, and benchmarks do suggest that it's doing a fairly good job at that.
It compiles cleanly (and should thus work, provided someone writes
appropriate modules) on Linux, FreeBSD, and Darwin/Mac OS X.

Changes: This release changes some significant details in the core, such
as the IPC system, which is now actually a 9P2000(.u) based network
filesystem. It also allows for greater flexibility in feedback, and the
two provided module packages make things easier to use than ever.

[028] - GNU ddrescue 1.8 (Stable)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 08:19

System :: Recovery Tools

About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.

Changes: The new option "--synchronous" has been added. The new option
"--generate-logfile" has been added. Fill mode now also works when the
outfile offset differs from zero. The "Fill Mode" chapter of the manual
has been updated.

  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 16:54

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Office/Business :: Groupware
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Inverse SOGo Connector for Thunderbird is an extension which
transforms Thunderbird into a full DAV client for groupware servers such
as SOGo, OpenGroupware.org, and Citadel. It does this by adding support
for remote DAV address books and by adding features to be used along with
the Lightning calendar extension. It is a merge of the Lightning Enhancer
and the GroupDAV Addressbook Connector.

Changes: This is a rewrite of the CardDAV addressbook implementation,
which fixes the situation where one was not able to write to a mailing
list, with the duplicate entries for such addressbooks and the
autocompletion working only one time per two tries. There is an
improvement in the performance and the reliability of the freebusy
resolution in the attendees window. A hook has been added to give up the
startup process to the SOGo Integrator if present.

[053] - OpenDBX 1.3.6 (Development)
  by Norbert Sendetzky (http://freshmeat.net/users/nsendetzky/)
  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 17:09

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The OpenDBX libraries provide a unified and consistent API for
software developers to different database management systems. The C and
C++ libraries aim to implement access to the native database interfaces
efficiently via a thin abstraction layer. They consist of a basic set of
functions that are part of all vendor database libraries and can be
extended by additional function blocks. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MS
SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite 2 and 3, and Sybase ASE are
supported.

Changes: This release features a small application for executing SQL
statements from a shell environment. It can be used either interactively
by typing commands directly into the terminal or via batch mode feed by
stdin. Changes in the library include renaming the C++ header file to
conform to the convention of the STL. The C++ API was enhanced, and
consequently accepts not only strings but also char pointers. While adding
these functions, the parameter signature of the existing functions
Conn::create() and Stmt::bind() was streamlined.

Changes: The Postfix 2.5 "postfix upgrade-configuration" command now works
even with Postfix 2.4 or earlier versions of the postfix command. When
installing Postfix 2.5.0 without upgrading from an existing master.cf
file, the new master.cf file had an incorrect process limit for the

[065] - rsyslog 3.11.5 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 05:10

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for on-demand disk buffering, reliable syslog
over TCP, writing to databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and many more),
fully configurable output formats (including high-precision timestamps),
the ability to filter on any part of the syslog message, on-the-wire
message compression, and the ability to convert text files to syslog. It
is a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and able to work with the same
configuration file syntax.

Changes: The GSSAPI input module has become a real independent module.
Formerly, the rsyslog core needed to be linked with GSSAPI libraries,

System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Streamline is an I/O subsystem for Linux. It tailors I/O paths to
applications by constructing them on demand from functional components.
Components may reside in userspace, the OS kernel, or on peripheral
hardware. The base distribution comes bundled with components for pattern
matching (regex, aho corasick, bpf), logging (IPFIX, http_log), TCP stream
reassembly, and more (e.g. gzip and blowfish). Obvious uses are intrusion
detection and request logging. Streamline exports POSIX file, pipe, and
socket abstractions and the PCAP and MAPI monitoring interfaces.

Changes: This release was the basis for real application benchmarks (BIND
and Mplayer) and thus has been thoroughly tested. New features include a
Sockets interface for UDP applications, a driver interface with the Intel
Pro/1000 example device, and x86_64 and multithreading support. More

[073] - the breve simulation environment 2.7
  by jklein (http://freshmeat.net/users/jklein/)
  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 08:28

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence

About: breve is a 3D simulation environment designed for the simulation of
decentralized systems and artificial life. While the concept is similar to
existing packages such as Swarm and StarLogo, the implementation, which
simulates both continuous time and continuous 3D space, is quite
different. It also includes an experimental physics engine, allowing the
user to implement real-time physical simulations. Simulations are written
in a simple object-oriented language called "steve". Users define an
agent's behavior by specifying how the agent interacts with the world at
each timestep and how the agent interacts when it collides with other
agents. The ultimate goal of the system is to allow decentralized
simulations to be implemented quickly and easily while providing a
sophisticated set of object classes and libraries to facilitate the
construction of advanced artificial life simulations.

Changes: This version adds major new features, including support for
loading non-convex objects from 3DS files, a new URL loading class,
improved physics, enhanced graphics, and better compatibility for
simulations written in Python.

[074] - tinyap 1.3-0
  by Damien Leroux (http://freshmeat.net/users/beublo23/)
  Mon, Feb 25th 2008 08:07

Software Development :: Compilers
Text Processing

About: tinyap is a recursive descent parser with backup that outputs an
abstract syntax tree (AST). Unlike in most parsers, the grammar is data.
Tinyap uses an AST that represents a grammar to parse its input text. The
factory default for the grammar is tinyap's grammar description language
itself, so one can parse a grammar description and directly use the parse
output to parse some other text written in the described language. Tinyap
also features a plugin mechanism for grammars, which allows for dynamic
modular grammars. Finally, it provides an interface to walk down the ASTs
and to write external plugins to visit the nodes.

Changes: Support was added for the repetition operators *, ?, and +. That
is, tinyap now supports EBNF-style grammars. A sexier dialect named
"short", which gets rid of angle brackets around non-terminals, was added.
