[001] - ALSA MIDI Kommander 0.3.1
  by Pedro Lopez-Cabanillas (http://freshmeat.net/users/plcl/)
  Mon, Mar 24th 2008 13:21

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: MIDI

About: ALSA MIDI Kommander is a DCOP interface exposing many ALSA
Sequencer features for shell scripts, Kommander scripts, or KDE programs
requiring MIDI sequencer services. A few utilities are included, which can
be used both as programming examples and as real work tools. The main
program, "kaseq" is a single executable used as a DCOP service program. It
runs as a daemon, allowing only a single running instance, and provides a
system tray icon to give visual feedback for MIDI activity and a way to
control the program's execution.

Changes: This release fixes a crash using the program function open() when
ALSA was not loaded.

[002] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.9.0-beta2
  by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
  Mon, Mar 24th 2008 15:44

System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ support,
protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, experimental IPv6 support,
multi-interface/aliased-IP support, and extensive user definable logging
with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It has plugin support to add
extra features (like SSH Brute Force protection and (Racoon) IPSEC
support). It is easy to configure and highly customizable. A filter script
that makes your firewall log more readable is also included.

Changes: This release fixes echo output showing hosts that shouldn't be
displayed. Now IPv4 traffic will have a default policy of DROP when IPv6
is enabled and vice-versa. A LOCAL_CONFIG_FILE variable has been added to
allow certain user/global/local settings to be sourced into the script.
Support for plugin_status() and plugin_stop() has been implemented.
Several plugins have been updated. Multiroute now has a proper stop()
section, for example. An error on missing /proc/ queue_maxlen has been
fixed. Support for legacy plugins has been fixed.

About: Cherokee is a very fast, flexible, and easy to configure Web
server. It supports widespread technologies: FastCGI, SCGI, PHP, CGI, TLS
and SSL encrypted connections, Virtual hosts, Authentication, on the fly
encoding, Apache compatible log files, and much more. It also provides an
easy to use configuration interface that allows you to configure the
server from top to bottom without editing a text configuration file.

Changes: The Handler dirlist has been fixed. A high visibility bug was
introduced right before releasing 0.6.0. The "Personal Web" support has
been added to the administration interface. Addresses like
http://server/~user can be now configured from cherokee-admin. A few minor
bugs have been fixed in the documentation, compilation, and the
administration interface.

[004] - Crate Game Engine 20080323
  by Jason Turner (http://freshmeat.net/users/lefticus/)
  Mon, Mar 24th 2008 07:12

Games/Entertainment
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Crate Game Engine is a game engine that is designed to make
creating games trivial. The rendering and scripting engines are removed
from the game engine to make the specialization of games as easy as
possible. Currently, scripting support is implemented to allow a Lua
script to be put directly in the game file, which can be validated as XML.
Multiplayer text based adventure-style games can be played with the
existing console rendering engine.

Changes: This release includes further cleanup of code, working towards
enabling of scripting support.

[005] - cxxtools 1.4.7
  by Tommi Mäkitalo (http://freshmeat.net/users/tmaek/)
  Mon, Mar 24th 2008 06:16

Software Development :: Libraries

About: cxxtools is a library of unrelated but useful C++ classes. It
contains an argument parser, a base-64 encoder/decoder, a C++ interface to
iconv, md5-stream for easy MD5 calculation, threading classes, socket
classes, a dynamic exception-safe buffer, a wrapper for dlopen/dlsym, a
pool template (e.g. for a connection pool in a multi-threaded
application), query_params, and a class for easy parsing of CGI parameters
(GET and POST) in a CGI program.

Changes: This release bumps the so-number, which was forgotten in the last
release. Documentation of the network-classes has been translated into
English. The logger was simplified. Flushdelay was removed in the logger,
since it may make problems in some circumstances.

  Mon, Mar 24th 2008 09:15

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)

About: Deliantra is a client for Deliantra game servers. It offers an
intuitive user interface for exploring the vast game world, a persistent
minimap, powerful macros and keymaps, dialog-based NPC interaction, and
easy configuration for the skill, spell, and item system. It is based on
Perl, SDL, and OpenGL for high performance on modern systems, and works on
both Unix and Windows. Ports to other platforms should be very easy and are
underway.

Changes: A memory leak was fixed where the messages in the message window
were kept forever. The highlighting of the chat tabs is now red and not
blue. The history handling of the chat input will no longer erase the
typed input if the down cursor key is accidentally pressed. A keyboard
modifier display has also been implemented (to signal whether numlock is
on, which caused problems under Windows). A bug with the layout font under
Windows has been fixed.

  by b100dian (http://freshmeat.net/users/b100dian/)
  Mon, Mar 24th 2008 06:29

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: gtkaml is an XML syntax and an XML parser that extends the
Vala.Parser and transforms all your XML tags into a valid Gtk+ UI class.
It features a compact XML syntax for describing the way Gtk widgets are
laid out in a (new) custom widget you're creating. Code "islands" (written
in Vala) are used for widget signal handling and other
methods/signals/properties that you're introducing. It doesn't depend on
an external library at run-time, and it is much more readable than the
usual UI boilerplate.

Changes: You can now modify properties of "existing" widgets, but only if
they're also "standalone". If the parsing of the generated vala file
succeeds, the generated file is removed (unless --save-temps is specified
from the command-line). Line numbers of the first CDATA code block match
(if possible) with the generated vala file (so you can lookup errors).

About: gumnut is a text based client for creating, moderating, and
displaying comments over a decentralized communication network (currently
gnutella). Comments are text files with a simple naming convention that
uses the filename to describe field attributes (such as topic and
geographical location). A discussion tree is read by searching on one or
more of these fields and then downloading and reassembling the individual
comments in order.

Changes: In the text interface, a new "guiopen" command was added, which
opens a browser that shows the GUI. A new "local" column was added in the

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: iDMC is user-friendly software for the simulation and analysis of
non-linear models. It was designed both as a teaching and research tool,
and is very easy to use (a user’s guide is available). Numerical
calculations are performed on models included in the package, or any model
formulated by the user and easily encoded (a few lines with no compilation
necessary). The Java graphical user interface provides fast generation of
graphical data of good quality, which can be saved as .png files. Hard
computational tasks are delegated to a separate, small C library.

Changes: A regression introduced with version 2.0.7 was fixed: trajectory
for models with more than 2 dimensions were not correctly handled. The
dependency on idmclib was upgraded to a more recent version (0.8.0).

write your own storage routines.

Changes: The nickmeta parameter now supports raw HTML, which will satisfy
all the developers who want to quickly add complex data in the user
profile box. A new dyn_params parameter makes it possible to disable
caching on the parameters you want. Finally, the refresh_delay_steps

[044] - SCMS 0.6
  by Dash Shendy (http://freshmeat.net/users/d4sh/)
  Mon, Mar 24th 2008 13:02

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: SCMS is a secure content management system. Some of its features
are a role-based object-oriented design, conformance to XHTML 1.0
Transitional, strict I/O (input/output) validation, a custom session
implementation, support for SSL and cookies (when run over SSL), session
identifier regeneration, idle session expiration, account locking, account
unlocking methods, encryption (with MD5, AES, SHA1, SHA256, SHA512, or
WHIRLPOOL), and event logging.

Changes: A Session update bug has been fixed. This release calls
UpdateSession() in CreateAuthenticatedSession() in the Authentication
class. PHP Session Management has been integrated into SCMS' database. Now
all session data will be saved in scms_sDATA in scms_Sessions table. This
is implemented in SessionHandlingV1.php, and included in scms_header.php.

[045] - Seamstress Library 1.0.1
  by Hayden Walles (http://freshmeat.net/users/hgwalles/)
  Mon, Mar 24th 2008 15:29

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: Seamstress is a portable library that implements Avidan and
Shamir's seam carving technique for content-aware image resizing. Seam
carving works by removing the "boring bits" from an image, so it can
change the aspect ratio of many images without changing the shape of the
objects inside.

Changes: The previous version contained a bug that prevented dynamic
energy from being used with energy annotations. The dynamic energy
recomputation destroys annotations, and these were not reapplied
correctly. This has been corrected.

  Mon, Mar 24th 2008 06:04

Education
Scientific/Engineering

About: Seismic Toolkit is a tool for processing and displaying seismic
signal data in a graphical interface. It reads seismic signals in SAC
format, and provides a variety of signal processing, such as filtering,
spectral analysis, polarisation analysis, time-frequency representation,
Hilbert transform, and singular value decomposition. Some utilities are
included for useful seismological applications, like computation of
Seismic Moment Mo, Mantle magnitude Mm and Moment magnitude Mw, MTPA
spectral analysis, plotting focal mechanisms, computation (and plotting)
of instrumental response from poles and zeros, and some usefull GMT
(Generic Mapping Tool) scripts for plotting signals, responses, and
time-frequency in Postscript files for high quality prints.

Changes: A new menu was added to give the possibility to normalize PSD
spectra (Power Spectral Density), and to export them in ASCII files. A new
function was added in the Fourier menu, to remove anelastic attenuation due
to propagation. The program no longer crashes when loading binary SAC files
on 64-bit machines. Autodetection of endianness of binary SAC files should
make STK_BITE_ORDER obsolete. Code cleanup and some optimizations were
done.

About: xtee (cross-tee/expanded tee) is a program for building complex
pipelines. It resembles the tee command, except that instead of copying
stdin to stdout, it copies a file to stdout. You can use xtee for building
things like a bidirectional HTTP filter (using netcat and sed).
