[001] - 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons Character Generator 3.9
by Slicer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slicer/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 23:19
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons Character Generator is an
HTML/JavaScript Web page that allows the user to quickly and easily create
new Dungeons and Dragons characters. The characters can be of any of the
eleven classes, any of the playable races, and may start at any level from
1 to 220. Generation requires some simple input, after which the character
is displayed on a basic character sheet. It allows you to select your
starting stats, add ability points, and pick skills, equipment, feats, and
spells. It runs on most operating systems with most modern browsers.
Changes: This release enables characters to be equipped with masterwork
armor and shields.

Communications :: File Sharing
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: With Tahoe, you can store your files in a distributed way across a
set of computers, such that if some of the computers fail or become
unavailable, you can still retrieve your data from the remaining
computers. You can also securely share your files with other users. The
source code is dual licenced under the GPL and the Transitive Grace Period
Public Licence.
Changes: An added secret is used for convergent encryption to better
protect the confidentiality of immutable files. The publically readable
hash of the plaintext was removed. A "mkdir-p" feature was added to the
WAPI. Many updates were made to the Windows installer and Windows
filesystem integration.

About: ansistego provides terminal-level steganography for scripts and
other ASCII files (ie, protection against 'cat'). It intersperses a
text/script with commented ANSI codes that cause most terminals to clear
sensitive lines as soon as they are written. Only a specified front text
appears. The front text is embedded in the script using ANSI-cloaked
comments, so that the text appears unaltered when the script is viewed
with cat, but the script can be run without any decoding stage.

[005] - argtable 2.9
by Stewart Heitmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/sheitman/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 22:24
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Argtable is an ANSI C library for parsing GNU style command line
arguments, as in "foo -abc -o myfile --help --count=7". It enables a
program's command line syntax to be defined in the source code as an array
of argtable structs. The command line is then parsed according to that
specification, and the resulting values are returned in those same structs
where they are accessible to the main program. The default parsing,
validation, and error reporting routines may be replaced by user-defined
callbacks if desired, and new argtable data types may be created to parse
user-defined argument types. The parsing itself is done using GNU getopt
and so is 100% GNU compatible.
Changes: This version fixes a minor makefile bug relating to the "make
dist" command. There are no changes to the code base.

by Lev_Arris (http://freshmeat.net/users/LevArris/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 07:51
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: Bacula is a set of programs that allow you to manage the backup,
recovery, and verification of computer data across a network of different
computers. It is based on a client/server architecture and is efficient
and relatively easy to use, while offering many advanced storage
management features that make it easy to find and recover lost or damaged
files.
Changes: This release includes Storage Daemon reservation enhancements
from SVN and fixes several issues with migration (wrong storageID and slow
restores). It also implements autostart scripts for Debian and an updated
mtx-changer.in for Debian's mt program. For Win32, the latest version of
wxWidgets was used, a the File Daemon backup/restore memory leak due to
improper termination of Backup Read/Write was fixed, and Bacula now
attempts correct handling of Win32 mount points.

[008] - Baldrick Application Framework 0.86
by Matt Hucke (http://freshmeat.net/users/matthucke/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 23:22
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: The Baldrick Application Framework is a library of Perl 5 modules
that provide Web application functionality: session management,
URL-to-handler mapping, user loading, authentication and authorization,
database querying, and template-based output generation. It is a tool for
programmers to use in building their own Web applications ("modules"),
which can run under CGI or mod_perl. Users on a site should be able to
freely move between modules without re-authenticating, even if those
modules were from different developers.
Changes: The Baldrick::DatabaseSession and Baldrick::QueryBuilder classes
were added. commandHandlers hashref was added to Dogsbody startup, giving
a Dogsbody the ability to transmogrify into another. A packaging problem
with 0.85 was fixed. That version would not install due to a faulty
"Manifest" file.

[010] - Big Fraction 1.00
by Steven Goodwin (http://freshmeat.net/users/steevatbluedust/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 01:54
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Big Fraction is a Java class that represents an immutable fraction,
as held in a numerator and denominator. Calculations may be performed on
this fraction, but the value is always held as a numerator/denominator
pair. Therefore, no precision is lost. The fraction may be top-heavy, but
is reduced when printed. The value can be converted into floats if
desired, although precision will invariably be lost, and some large
fractions (such as calculations for pi) can not be converted if the values
of BigInteger exceed the range capable of floats.

[011] - C++ ResourcePool 0.99.19
by mws (http://freshmeat.net/users/mws/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 01:57
Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries
About: C++ ResourcePool is a library which can be used to pool resources
of every kind. It can also be used as an abstraction layer by providing a
unique API for different resources of similar resource types; the most
prominent examples are SQL databases. It includes a convenient way to
access MySQL and Oracle databases in the same way, so that changing from
MySQL to Oracle or vice-versa does not need big code changes.
Changes: The library was ported to Solaris 10/SPARC. A buffer alignment
issue that caused crashes on SPARC systems was fixed along with a bug that
caused fetching of LOB values to fail on MSB architectures (like SPARC).
This release was successfully tested on Solaris 10 (SPARC) running an
Oracle 11g client in a 32-bit build.

[012] - Change Control Request Manager 0.4.0
by Dave (http://freshmeat.net/users/daveseff/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 09:43
Information Management :: Records Management
About: Change Control Request Manager is an online system for managing
change requests for businesses. It can be customized to fit the needs of a
particular business.
Changes: Custom fields are now fully editable; you can delete and modify
entries, and add new entries in arbitrary positions. Two stage approval
has been added: managers authorize, then Ops approve. There are buttons
for admins and managers to delete and lock records. This release shows who
edited, authorized, and approved records. An email field for each record
allows users to be notified when their change is approved. Email has been
moved to a button, and email is not sent with every modification. There is
a button for exporting a record to a Word document. The interface has been
modified to look nice in both IE and Firefox. There are many bugfixes.

[013] - Class Library for Numbers 1.2.1
by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 09:27
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Class Library for Numbers (CLN) is a library for computations with
all kinds of numbers. Its rich set of number classes includes integers,
rational numbers, floating-point numbers, complex numbers, modular
integers, and univariate polynomials. It implements elementary functions
(also with unlimited precision), logical functions, and transcendental
functions. It is designed for memory and speed efficiency as well as
interoperability.
Changes: Some bugs in the output of numbers larger than 2^32 decimal
digits were fixed. Modifying C/C++ operators, such as "+=", "++", etc.,
are now enabled by default.

[014] - ConfigLib 0.1.1
by VonRoeschlaub (http://freshmeat.net/users/vonroeschlaub/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 09:32
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries
About: ConfigLib is a C++ library for reading and writing standard Unix
and Windows .INI configuration files as easily as declaring a variable. It
provides all the objects necessary to read any setting from a configuration
file and write out changes while preserving comments. Using templates, any
serializable object or primitive can be read from a configuration file and
parsed automatically via the command line. It also includes common objects
for handling settings beyond those of the C primitives.
Changes: This update adds two new classes for reading a section of the
configuration file: configmap which reads name/value pairs, and
configvector, which reads unnamed values. There are also improvements in
positioning new settings and handling Boolean variables.

[015] - DKMS 2.0.19
by Matt Domsch (http://freshmeat.net/users/mdomsch/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 09:30
System :: Systems Administration
About: DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support) is a framework where device
driver source can reside outside the kernel source tree so that it is very
easy to rebuild modules as you upgrade kernels. This allows Linux vendors
to provide driver drops without having to wait for new kernel releases (as
a stopgap before the code can make it back into the kernel), while also
taking out the guesswork for customers attempting to recompile modules for
new kernels. For veteran Linux users it also provides some advantages since
a separate framework for driver drops will remove kernel releases as a
blocking mechanism for distributing code.
Changes: The big improvement here is that Fedora rawhide (will be Fedora
9) now includes RPM hooks, similar to Ubuntu's triggers, to invoke the
DKMS autoinstaller at the end of an RPM transaction when a new kernel is
installed. This means there is no need to wait for a reboot to invoke the
dkms_autoinstaller: it is now invoked right after a new kernel is
installed, so one can rebuild drivers immediately and include them in the
initial ramdisk.

[016] - DM CryptFS 0.3.2
by Alexander Motzkau (http://freshmeat.net/users/amotzkau/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 08:02
Security :: Cryptography
About: DM CryptFS provides helper tools for setting up swap partitions and
filesystems using the device mapper crypt target of the Linux kernel 2.6.4
and later. A configuration file lets you specify the layout of the
encrypted storage and key derivation. Some scripts are provided to make it
interact nicely with hotplugging.
Changes: This release fixes a possible crash when a part of a composite
key failed. A --no-enc option was added for just mapping a partition
without decrypting it.

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management :: Link Checking
About: GNU Wget is a utility for noninteractive download of files from
the Web. It supports HTTP and FTP protocols, as well as retrieval through
HTTP proxies. It can follow HTML links, download many pages, and convert
the links for local viewing. It can also mirror FTP hierarchies or only
those files that have changed. Wget has been designed for robustness
over slow network connections; if a download fails due to a network
problem, it will keep retrying until the whole file has been retrieved.
Changes: Interrupted downloads no longer result in renaming of the file.
The progress bar now displays correctly in non-English locales (and a
related assertion failure was fixed). Wget no longer issues a GET request
over HTTP for files it should know it's not going to download.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting many built-in validation types on server and client
sides. It prevents security attacks by discarding spoofed values, has
multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields displayed as fully
accessible or in read-only mode, and has field value filtering and
reformatting. It can be extended with custom control plug-ins. AJAX based
form submission, upload monitor progress bar, auto-complete text input,
automatic layout renderer, calendar date, CAPTCHA, Google Maps world
location selection, linked select, and animation effects plug-ins are
available.
Changes: The date plug-in was enhanced to optionally ask the users to
specify an age in years, months, and days, which is the difference between
the current date and a past date. This option is meant to allow users to
enter a past date they do not remember accurately, such as the number of
years of experience they have in a certain activity.

[026] - LCD-Linux 0.13.2
by Mattia Jona (http://freshmeat.net/users/mjona/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 12:24
System :: Hardware
About: LCD-Linux is a Linux software abstraction layer to drive LCD
alphanumeric displays. It features complete VT102 console emulation and
aims to be as general and flexible as possible. It consists of two kernel
modules, lcd-linux and the display driver. Currently, only the Hitachi
HD44780 is supported, but drivers for other LCD controllers can be easily
written.
Changes: This release fixes a stupid bug that prevented attributes from
being rendered on attribute-capable displays. The kernel internal
read/write functions have been improved, and now allow you to choose
whether to have a read/write buffer with or without attributes. The lcdcon
module is now at a usable level, giving the opportunity to use a display as
a small text console. The documentation has been clarified.

Tue, Mar 25th 2008 23:23
Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: Libraries :: Tcl Extensions
About: TkPNG implements PNG photo image support for Tcl/Tk (8.3+) without
depending on libpng (only zlib). It supports the full range of color types
and bit depths from 1 bit-per-pixel B&W to 16 bit-per-channel RGBA,
including interlaced images and importing from base64 encoded data.
Changes: This version includes updated TEA support files to fix configure
errors under Linux, 64-bit compatibility, the ability to write PNG images
(rather than just read), and an option to apply a global alpha value to an
image as it is read, for example, to use one image file for both an enabled
and disabled (semi-transparent) icon. Some of these changes were made in
0.8, which was available from CVS but never released.

[063] - UIDL 1.3
by Dominic Cioccarelli (http://freshmeat.net/users/dcioccar/)
Tue, Mar 25th 2008 23:05
Internet
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: UIDL aims to create a scriptable, JavaScript based language for
expressing complex user interfaces. The main features of a UIDL page are
the ability to create complex user interfaces (using Swing based widgets)
and to communicate asynchronously with server based objects (using the
JSON-RPC protocol). While this may sound similar to AJAX, the
implementation is much cleaner thanks to the ability to natively
instantiate complex UI components within the browser and the ability to
transparently present server based objects via their JavaScript proxies.
Changes: JSON-RPC remoting was simplified by enhancing client
functionality. Remote interfaces are no longer required as proxy objects
are automatically constructed from exposed meta-data (by calling
"browser.createProxyObjects"). Due to the simplified native JSON-RPC
support, support for Spring RPC and JavaScript based JSON-RPC is now
deprecated. The build files were reorganized so that common libraries
don't need to be packaged twice (for compile time and runtime). This
reduces the overall distribution size.
