Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: AROUNDMe identity server is the perfect solution for anyone wishing
to create OpenID-based identities and offer websites for multiple people on
the Web. OpenID allows you to connect to many Web sites without needing to
fill in registration forms or remember multiple user name and password
combinations. AROUNDMe identity server allows you to provide OpenID
accounts for your family, community, or work place. Each OpenID account
acts as a consumer meaning that people can connect to them, thus forming a
decentralized social network. Each account holder gets their own multiple
page website with plugins such as a blog and a guestbook. It is fully
customizable using XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.

Changes: This version added the ability to install into the Web server
root directory, thus bypassing the need to get to vhosts on a shared
server.

[020] - FrobTADS 0.10 (Interpreter)
  by Nikos Chantziaras (http://freshmeat.net/users/realnc/)
  Tue, Apr 1st 2008 03:34

Games/Entertainment

About: FrobTADS is a complete rewrite of the Unix console-version of TADS
("Text Adventure Development System"). It uses curses (or ncurses) and
provides an interpreter to play games developed with TADS as well as the
TADS 2 and 3 development tools. It adds support for a number of relatively
recent user interface features including full support for text and
background colors, TADS 3 banner windows, and timed input. It's also much
more portable and more easily maintainable, as it's built to modern Unix
standards.

Changes: The interpreter uses regular ASCII by default to avoid display
problems with apostrophes and quotes. Compilation problems with Mac OS X
10.5 (Leopard), Intel C++, Solaris 10, and the Linux version of the Sun
Studio compilers have been fixed. FrobTADS should now compile and run
correctly as a 64-bit binary and be easier to cross-compile without
modifying any code. The PDCurses library is now correctly detected when
building. It will be used if neither ncurses nor curses is found.

  by Rohan Almeida (http://freshmeat.net/users/arcofdescent/)
  Tue, Apr 1st 2008 22:52

Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: Google::Adwords is a collection of Perl modules that provides an
easy-to-use object oriented interface to the Google Adwords SOAP API. You
don’t need to understand SOAP or Web services to use it.

Changes: Support for version v11 of the Adwords API was added. All data
object methods now return an array ref where expected. SOAP::Lite 0.66 or
later is required. Chained set accessor calls now work for all objects.
This will only work for perl 5.8 or later. The required data modules are
loaded implicitly in the Service modules. The shrunkenUrl accessor was
added to Google::Adwords::Image.

[030] - Himerge 0.18
  by Luis Araujo (http://freshmeat.net/users/LuisAraujo/)
  Tue, Apr 1st 2008 00:47

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: Himerge is a GUI for emerge (Gentoo's Portage system) written in
Haskell using gtk2hs. The main idea is to simplify browsing the entire
portage tree, and allow running the most basic and common options from the
emerge command. It also offers several handy tools, like global and local
use flags browsers, inspired by UFED (the Gentoo Linux USE flags editor).
It also uses eix (a small utility for searching ebuilds with indexing for
fast results) as a back-end command to show package information in
HTML/CSS format, so you can access a package's Web site for a quick
glance.

Changes: The USE flag browser was improved and now shows flags classified
alphabetically in independent panels. Himerge now correctly handles the
reload procedure of portage during the installation of packages. The tree
views interface is slightly improved. The views are now updated when
pressing 'Enter' on each row too. Some code was refactored.

System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: Partimage Is Not Ghost (PING) is a live Linux ISO based on LFS
(Linux From Scratch). It can be burnt on a CD and booted, or integrated in
a PXE/RIS environment. Several tools that make it the perfect choice for
easily backing up and restoring whole partitions are included. It supports

[042] - PHP mySQL Database Wrapper Class 1.1.2
  by Stefan Gabos (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefangabos/)
  Tue, Apr 1st 2008 06:38

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: PHP mySQL Database Wrapper Class provides a set of methods for
interacting with a MySQL database easily and securely. Most of the methods
are extended versions of PHP's native functions, but providing a lot more
functionality and powerful debugging features. There are also new methods
that greatly simplify the process of executing specific queries like
returning specific rows or even single values from specific rows, SUM(),
COUNT(), and MAX() queries. Starting with version 1.0.9, the class also
supports caching.

Changes: A full backtrace was added for each query. This is a full list of
the file, line, and method that lead to the execution of each specific
query. The highlighter is now a bit smarter and it does not highlight
keywords in strings. More accurate reporting of queries being run multiple
times. Error reporting was improved for cases of not being able to connect
to the MySQL server or select a database. An issue with the style sheet
file that caused the debug window to position according to the host
application's style sheet was fixed. Some new methods were added.
optimize() automatically optimizes tables that have overhead. A few minor
bugs were fixed.

  Tue, Apr 1st 2008 22:22

Office/Business
Scientific/Engineering

About: queXF (pronounced kweks-eff) takes scanned paper forms generated
using queXML and reads them. Operators can then verify that queXF has read
the form correctly. Once this is done, the data collected can be exported
in a fixed width ASCII file with a DDI data description. queXF can be used
as an alternative to programs such as Cardiff Teleform and Remark OMR, in
some situations. It removes the need to manually enter form data,
therefore reducing error and fatigue. It does OMR (Optical Mark
Recognition) on each form to determine if boxes have been filled, and can
use Tesseract OCR to determine what characters have been entered into
boxes.

Changes: Blank page detection was added. Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode is
detected on a form. A long text box field was added. Windows executable
was added for doing a quick installation (e.g. on a USB stick) using
XAMPP. All bugfixes since 1.0.0 are included.

[047] - rsyslog 3.15.0 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Tue, Apr 1st 2008 09:03

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for on-demand disk buffering, reliable syslog
over TCP, writing to databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and many more),
fully configurable output formats (including high-precision timestamps),
the ability to filter on any part of the syslog message, on-the-wire
message compression, and the ability to convert text files to syslog. It
is a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and able to work with the same
configuration file syntax.

Changes: This release offers initial RELP support. The RELP protocol
provides superior reliability over plain TCP syslog, ensuring that no
messages are lost. With plain TCP, this can happen if the remote server
goes down. RELP protects from this by utilizing a full-duplex protocol
where each message is acknowledged. RELP should also be safe to use with
stunnel, where plain TCP syslog sometimes gets into trouble. This is an
experimental build and not recommended for production machines.

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Squidwall is a small and very fast squid redirector. It enables the
administrator to build an easy-to-use Web interface for controlling user-,
host-, or IP-based access to squid. It also supports filtering of Web
pages containing obscene content with an advanced phrase weighting system
like Dansguardian. It supports pass-through antivirus scanning with
clamav, banner filtering, whitelisting and blacklisting via regular
expressions or string comparison based on URLs and/or content. The default
Web interface can be used by teachers for disabling, enabling, or filtering
access to the Internet.

Changes: This release adds support for the url_rewrite_concurrency option
in squid. It has one small fix when calling buffer_init() of libowfat.

[056] - System for Internet-Level Knowledge 1.0.0
  by Michael Welsh Duggan (http://freshmeat.net/users/md5i/)
  Tue, Apr 1st 2008 07:37

Information Management
Internet :: Log Analysis
Security

About: SiLK (System for Internet-Level Knowledge) consists of two sets of
tools: a packing system and an analysis suite. The packing system receives
Netflow V5 PDUs and converts them into a more space efficient format,
recording the packed records into service-specific binary flat files. The
analysis suite consists of tools that can read these flat files and then
perform various query operations, ranging from per-record filtering to
statistical analysis of groups of records. The analysis tools interoperate
using pipes, allowing a user to develop a relatively sophisticated query
from a simple beginning.

Changes: This version provides integration with Python 2.4 or later, and
rwfilter can now filter based on Python expressions. Preliminary support
for IPv6 addresses can be included. rwfilter now supports threads.
Arbitrary notes (annotations) can be added to the headers of some SiLK
files. Site information is completely determined at run-time. Many other
enhancements and bugfixes were made. Note that a few deprecated options
and behaviors have been removed.

About: Urd is a Web-based Usenet binary download manager. It stores the
newsgroup information in a MySQL database and aggregates the articles into
sets of a single download (e.g. one album or movie). The Web interface can
be used to search with regular expressions. It uses its own downloading
daemon that has support for scheduling downloads and updating databases.

Internet

About: VncThumbnailViewer gives you the ability to connect to and watch
multiple computers at the same time using the VNC protocol. It presents
live thumbnail views of many computers in a single window, scaling and
rescaling the views to best fit. Double-clicking on a single thumbnail
allows you to enlarge it and take control of that computer's keyboard and
mouse.

Changes: This release has the ability to save the current group of
computers being observed as a file. This allows for easily reconnecting to
the same list of computers without re-entering the connection details for
every computer.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Testing

About: The Web Performance Suite is a suite of testing tools for Web
servers, including load testing, Web page performance analysis, and
operating system tuning. The statistical analysis in the Load Testing
Module takes your site's performance criteria, and determines the number
of users your Web site can handle. Because data is collected at the URL
level, it not only identifies slow Web pages, but identifies the
particular part of the Web page that caused the problem. It includes
hard-to-find features such as IP spoofing, client certificates, multiple
simultaneous test cases, authentication, SSL recording and playback,
automated analysis, AJAX support, SOAP support, and more.

Changes: This minor update includes 12 bugfixes in the Analyzer and Load
Tester modules.

[060] - Webalizer Xtended RB22
  by Patrick Frei (http://freshmeat.net/users/pfrei/)
  Tue, Apr 1st 2008 00:48

Internet :: Log Analysis

About: Webalizer Xtended is a fork of Webalizer and contains a great
number of feature improvements, such as monthly statistics for all "HTTP
404 Not Found" errors (including the number of these errors and the
corresponding URLs), IPv6 support, and additional configuration file
keywords. Furthermore, all colors of the statistics can be defined by the
user. Webalizer Xtended also fixes several (security-related) bugs in the
original Webalizer code and contains the "Geolizer" and "Apache mod_logio"
patches to generate faster and more reliable geographic traffic statistics.

Changes: bzip2 support was added along with a check routine to silence
compiler warnings. The man page and sample.conf were changed (adding bzip2
support). The mangle agent list was modified for Safari on Windows. Several
files were converted from DOS to Unix to decrease patch size. Umlaut
problems, a format bug, several compiler warnings, and a typo in the
configure script were fixed.

About: WebGUI is a content management framework built to allow average
business users to build and maintain complex Web sites. It is modular,
pluggable, and platform independent. It was designed to allow the people
who create the content to manage it online, rather than content management
taking up the time of busy IT staff. WebGUI comes with a full host of
features including shopping cart, subscriptions, forums, photo galleries,
FAQs, link lists, blogs, SQL reports, a Web services interface, and a very
configurable user privilege and profiling system.

Changes: This release fixes a number of issues with the syndicated content
and several other assets.

[062] - wview 3.8.0
  by Mark Teel (http://freshmeat.net/users/mteel/)
  Tue, Apr 1st 2008 13:52

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Scientific/Engineering

About: wview is an application that controls a supported weather station
to retrieve archive records and current conditions. Archive records may
optionally be stored in a relational database (MySQL or PostgreSQL). At a
user-defined interval, wview will use the archive history and current
conditions to generate weather images (buckets and graphs) and Web pages
based on configurable HTML templates. It supports serial and USB data
loggers, as well as connectivity with a terminal server or serial server
via TCP sockets.

Changes: This release adds basic sensor calibration support such that a
multiplier and constant are defined for each of the sensors that can be
calibrated. A new config file, "calibrate.conf", allows configuration of
the calibration. Now (for example) calibration of the rain collector type
is possible: 0.01", 0.2mm, 0.1mm, and other values can be supported.
Station pressure deviations can be calibrated. This release allows ratio
and/or constant calibrations.

[063] - ziproxy 2.5.2
  by Daniel Mealha Cabrita (http://freshmeat.net/users/dancab/)
  Tue, Apr 1st 2008 03:37

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Ziproxy is a high-performance forwarding (non-caching) HTTP proxy
that gzips text and HTML files, and reduces the size of images by
converting them to lower quality JPEGs or JPEG 2000. It is intended to
increase the speed for low-speed Internet connections (mobile, dial-up,
other). It's suitable for both home and professional usage. Ziproxy is
fully configurable and also features transparent proxy mode, HTML/JS/CSS
optimization, operation in daemon mode, a detailed access log with
compression statistics, basic authentication, and more.

Changes: A problem where proxy authentication would bring access denial if
it was not requested by Ziproxy was fixed. It is now simply ignored and
access continues as normal. An issue were the proper URL was not sent to
the server and the request failed when connecting to another proxy and
accessing Ziproxy in transparent proxy mode was fixed.

Clear/[Deny]SetVHost, the --no-color option, and the
ClearAllChannelBuffers status command were added. Webadmin defaults were
improved. Only one backup is now kept. The OnConfigLine() module hook now
only works with GM:* lines. A connection now times out after two minutes.
OnFinishedConfig() was removed. Webadmin skins now live in /usr/share/znc.
The new simple_away module was added.
