System
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: Floppy-Based

About: BG-Rescue Linux is a Busybox and uClibc-based rescue system with a
2.4 series Linux kernel. It supports full read/write support for NTFS
using ntfs-3g and limited but fast NTFS support using the NTFS 2.1.6b
kernel driver. It is loaded either from two floppy disks or from one 2.8MB
El Torito CD. The system runs entirely in RAM. It supports a wide range of
hardware (including SATA) and filesystems (including ext2/3 and xfs) and
can serve as a full backup/restore system for MS Windows systems that use
FAT12/16/32 or NTFS. It also includes many utilities.

Changes: ntfs-3g 1.2310 was added, which is a much more stable ntfs
read-write driver than ntfsmount with fewer dependencies. Therefore,
ntfsmount was removed, along with the now unneeded FUSE userspace tools.
Busybox was updated to 1.9.2 and e2fsprogs was updated to 1.40.7.
linld.com 0.97, dd_rescue 1.14, and regedit from regutils 0.10 were added.

[015] - fastutil 5.1.3
 by Sebastiano Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/vigna/)
 Wed, Apr 2nd 2008 09:43

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: fastutil extends the Java Collections Framework by providing
type-specific maps, sets, lists, and queues for Java with a small memory
footprint and fast access and insertion; it also includes a fast I/O API
for binary and text files. The classes implement their standard
counterpart interfaces (e.g., Map for maps) and can be plugged into
existing code. Besides the usual features, fastutil provides
reference-based containers (which do not use equals() to compare objects)
and linked structures. Most iterators provided by fastutil classes are
bidirectional, or even implement the standard list iterator interface.

Changes: A few bugs have been fixed. There is a new set of type-specific
Iterable classes.

[016] - FSVS 1.1.14
 by Ph. Marek (http://freshmeat.net/users/pmarek/)
 Wed, Apr 2nd 2008 04:11

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Recovery Tools
System :: Software Distribution

About: FSVS is the abbreviation for “Fast System VerSioning”,
and is pronounced [fisvis]. It is used for backing up, restoring,
versioning, and system configuration management, using a Subversion
repository as the backend.

Changes: This version brings automatic merging of local and remote changes
with conflict marking (and an explicit "resolve" command). Updates can be
restricted to a subset of URLs (if you're using multiple). Note that this
cannot be done for a subset of the working copy. The filter option "text"
now means removed entries too. "urls dump" can now work verbosely to
produce more human-readable output. "checkout" now prints the entries as
they're checked out. The user gets better messages on wrong options.
Compatibility with Solaris was improved.

 Wed, Apr 2nd 2008 09:34

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Networking

About: Libev is a high-performance event loop for C (with optional and
separate interfaces for C++ and Perl), featuring support for I/O, timers
(relative and absolute, cron-like ones), signals, process status changes,
and other types of events. It has both a fast native API and libevent
emulation to support programs written using the libevent API. The libev
distribution consists of libevent with the core event handling parts
replaced by the libev embedded event loop. Differences to libevent include
higher speed, simpler design, more features, less memory usage,
embedability, and no arbitrary limits. libev supports epoll, kqueue,
Solaris event ports, poll, and select.

Changes: A bug that caused the select backend to malfunction on 64-bit
architectures has been fixed (the impact was small as poll was preferred
on POSIX and the Win32 backend was not affected). Recursive ev_loop
invocations will no longer clear the ONESHOT and NONBLOCK flags of an
outer loop call. ev_async_pending has been added, and the ev_time and
ev_sleep functions are now accessible via the (optional) Perl XS
interface.

[026] - LimeSurvey Stable 1.70+ Build 4600
 by Carsten Schmitz (http://freshmeat.net/users/cronostitan/)
 Wed, Apr 2nd 2008 06:44

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: LimeSurvey (formerly PHPSurveyor) is a Web application that
interacts with MySQL, MSSQL, or Postgres to develop surveys, publish
surveys, and collect responses to surveys. Once a survey has been created,
data can be inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen
which presents each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data
entry screen. It includes the capacity to generate individualized
"tokens", so that invitations can be issued to participants. It also has
the capacity to set conditions on whether questions will display
(branching), numerous question types, and a basic statistics function.

Changes: A PHP parse error that resulted from group import was fixed.
Output when no "header" is set for dual scale matrix was fixed. An empty
progress bar in the template editor was fixed. The absense of the "No
Answer" option for array questions was fixed. Other issues in data entry
when using different languages in the admin interface and survey were
fixed. A DB error when deleting the tokens table with Postgres DB was
fixed. The fact that changing answer codes doesn't update conditions was
fixed. The loss of entered answers when "Save All" is not clicked was
fixed. The Norwegian Bokmal, Spanish, Hungarian, Greek, and German
translations were updated. A Welsh Language stub was added.

[029] - MirBSD Korn Shell R33c
 by mirabile (http://freshmeat.net/users/mirabile/)
 Wed, Apr 2nd 2008 16:01

System :: Shells

About: The MirBSD Korn Shell (mksh) is an actively developed successor of
pdksh (the Public Domain Korn Shell), aimed at producing a shell good for
interactive use, but with the primary focus on scripting. It is intended
to be portable to most *nix-like operating systems as long as they're not
too obscure. mksh incorporates improvements from OpenBSD and Debian, as
well as bugfixes and enhancements developed for the MirOS, FreeWRT, and
MidnightBSD projects. The emacs command line editing mode is UTF-8
capable, and Byte Order Marks are ignored in scripts. The shell supports
large files, as well as all pdksh and some csh, AT&T ksh, and GNU bash
features, is compatible with the Bourne shell and POSIX (within limits),
has no limit on array sizes, and incorporates some other useful builtins
and features. While being already fast and small (without losing
functionality), flags to make it even smaller can be given at compile
time. An interactive shell reads "~/.mkshrc" on startup.

Changes: The export/readonly/typeset command output has been corrected for
the case of displaying a list of variables (without and with -p). mksh is
now fully supported on Ultrix 4.5. Some minor code cleanup has been done
as well.

System :: Monitoring

About: Monitorix is a lightweight monitoring tool designed to monitor as
many services as it can. At this time, it monitors from the CPU load and
temperatures to the users on the system. Network device activity, network
service demand, and even the devices' interrupt activity are also
monitored. It uses RRDtool as its logging and graphing back-end. The
current status of any corporate UNIX/Linux server with Monitorix installed
can be accessed via a Web browser.

Changes: This version includes support for systems using an LVM-based disk
structure on top of a CCISS RAID of disk drives. There are several fixes
that will help to reduce error messages from crond, and a silly bug
introduced in the last version that prevented seeing the interrupt names
on systems with 2.4 Linux kernels has been fixed.

its behaviour, filename globbing, features to make C-shell (csh) users

Changes: This version contains mostly bugfixes for problems in version
4.3.5, but there are a couple of minor enhancements. Everyone using 4.3.5
or an earlier 4.3 release is encouraged to upgrade.
