  by Steve Grubb (http://freshmeat.net/users/stevegrubb/)
  Tue, Apr 8th 2008 13:42

Security
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: The audit package contains the user-space utilities for creating
audit rules, as well as for storing and searching the audit records
generate by the audit subsystem in the Linux 2.6 kernel. It also has a
basic Intrusion Detection plugin based on audit events capable of IDMEF
alerting using prelude.

Changes: There is an improved fix for buffer overflow in the
audit_log_user_command. An auditd memory leak on EOE records (2.6.25
kernel only) has been fixed. Linux STIG sample rules have been added.
There are performance improvements.

  Tue, Apr 8th 2008 13:40

System :: Networking

About: Balance is a simple but powerful generic TCP proxy with round-robin
load balancing and failover mechanisms. Its behavior can be controlled at
runtime using a simple command line syntax. Balance supports IPv6 on the
listening side, which makes it a very useful tool for IPv6 migration of
IPv4 only services and servers.

Changes: This release compiles on systems where IPV6_V6ONLY is undefined
(like some Solaris systems).

[003] - Benojt 0.4
  by innerspace (http://freshmeat.net/users/felfe/)
  Tue, Apr 8th 2008 00:05

Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Benojt is a fractal explorer that focuses on easy navigation in a
fractal image and flexible creation of new fractals. Due to its modular
design single components like iterators, renderers, and colorings can be
replaced, making it easy to experiment with individual aspects of the
creation of a fractal image. Using the Java class loading API, new
components can be created from templates and compiled and supplied at
runtime.

Changes: This release added the ability to load and save fractals to XML,
a configurable newton iterator, fixpoint coloring, smooth gradient
coloring, parameter and viewpoint selectors, a fixed panel size option, a
coordinate system in the complex plane, coordinates/data under the mouse
pointer, a Lyapunov iterator, symmetry in the chaos iterator, and new
complex methods.

  Tue, Apr 8th 2008 13:38

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Embedded Systems

About: LibU is a multiplatform C library that comes under a BSD-style
license. It includes many interdependent modules for accomplishing several
tasks: memory allocation, networking and URI parsing, string manipulation,
debugging, and logging in a very compact way, plus many other
miscellaneous tasks. It has a small footprint (about 70KB for the default
configuration), it is modular, and it has a multiplatform nature, making
it an ideal candidate for embedded systems. KLone is an example of such
usage.

Changes: This release has a new module for dynamic lists handling, a new
module for simple password authentication, and a new module for file
handling. u_config_set_value is now in the public interface.
u_config_get_child_n can return anonymous keys. A compilation error with
GCC 2.95 has been fixed.

[028] - LimeSurvey Stable 1.70+ Build 4629
  by Carsten Schmitz (http://freshmeat.net/users/cronostitan/)
  Tue, Apr 8th 2008 13:47

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: LimeSurvey (formerly PHPSurveyor) is a Web application that
interacts with MySQL, MSSQL, or Postgres to develop surveys, publish
surveys, and collect responses to surveys. Once a survey has been created,
data can be inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen
which presents each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data
entry screen. It includes the capacity to generate individualized
"tokens", so that invitations can be issued to participants. It also has
the capacity to set conditions on whether questions will display
(branching), numerous question types, and a basic statistics function.

Changes: An error in data entry for users with few rights was fixed. An
error where the reminder email with PostgreSQL could not be sent was
fixed. A database error was fixed when deleting a tokens table in
PostgreSQL. A bug with exporting to Excel when using certain question
types and special characters was fixed. Spanish, Norwegian Bokmål, and
Dutch translations were updated and a Welsh translation added. The option
deletenonvalues didn't work in most cases, and has been fixed. Bugs with
dual scale have been fixed. A bug where users were unable to change their
own password has been fixed.

[030] - MIME Email message class 2008.04.08
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Tue, Apr 8th 2008 03:22

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: The MIME Email message class composes and sends MIME encoded email
messages. It features user-definable headers and body parts, support for
plain text and HTML body, headers with non-ASCII text, HTML messages with
embedded images, file attachments with content type detection, forwarding
of messages as attachments, setting the error delivery address with the
Return-Path header, and sub-classes for different delivery methods: mail,
SMTP, Qmail, Sendmail, and Microsoft IIS or Exchange pickup folder. It
also supports sending personalized bulk mail by replacing the message
parts that differ for each recipient.

Changes: The main class can now cache individual message parts that attach
or embed files in messages. When sending personalized mailings to many
recipients for whom such file parts do not change, this avoids the
overhead of encoding those message parts again. The SMTP driver sub-class
was enhanced to disconnect from the SMTP server after a given number of
consecutive deliveries in bulk mail mode in order to avoid exceeding the
limits imposed by certain SMTP servers.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Openchart2 is a simple charting and plotting library designed for
incorporation with a variety of Java applications. The library can
generate two dimensional bar, pie, radar, and scatter charts with
customized titles, axis labels, legends, and colors. The simplicity of the
library is its strongest feature. Openchart2 is a branch of the original
JOpenChart library.

Changes: The newest version of Openchart2 introduces refactored coordinate
system code to improve extendability and functionality. A box coordinate
system, which frames the chart in a box with more traditional centered
axes labels, has been added to the library. Version 1.4 also contains a
new dot plot chart and associated optimized models for fast visualization
of large quantities of data. Radar plots have been improved significantly,
plotting grids on the radar plot itself rather than relying on confusing
coordinate system.

Software Development :: Libraries
System

About: radlib is a C language library developed to abstract details of
interprocess communications and common Linux/Unix system facilities so
that application developers can concentrate on application solutions. It
encourages developers to use a proven paradigm of event-driven,
asynchronous design. By abstracting interprocess messaging, events,
timers, and any I/O device that can be represented as a file descriptor,
radlib simplifies the implementation of multi-purpose processes, as well
as multi-process applications. In short, radlib is a sincere attempt to
provide real-time OS capability on a non-real-time OS.

Changes: radTimeGetMSSinceEpoch was changed to return an unsigned long

System :: Networking

About: webCDwriter can be used to make the CD- and DVD-writer(s) connected
to a Linux box available to all users in your network. It consists of the
server CDWserver and the clients webCDcreator and rcdrecord. CDWserver
stores the files transmitted by the clients, reserves the CD-writer and
controls the CD-writer using cdrecord. webCDcreator is a Java applet that
runs within your browser or by Java Web Start, assists you when putting
together a CD, and transmits the files. Finally rcdrecord is a command
line client that tries to offer the functionality of cdrecord over the
network with full multi-user support.

Changes: This release contains some adaptations for recent versions of
Ubuntu Linux.
