Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Security

About: AppSamurai is a mod_perl based system to protect vulnerable or
sensitive Web applications. The target use is in reverse proxy
configurations, with an Apache/mod_perl reverse proxy inside a DMZ and a
backend Web server in another DMZ or an internal network. AppSamurai's
features include a modular, multi-factor authentication system, form based
or basic auth based logins, encrypted storage of session data on a proxy,
the ability to use any Apache::Session storage type (including databases
for clustered deployment), and the ability to configure it from
httpd.conf.

Changes: This release adds nonce and signature to the login.pl login form
and checking in Apache::AppSamurai::login(). All form logins must now
provide a valid nonce and signature. It adds AuthSimple.pm, an
authentication module for the Authen::Simple authentication framework,
supporting numerous authentication methods (Kerberos, LDAP, PAM, etc.) It
improves detection/requirement handling for mod_perl and Crypt::CBC
ciphers.

[017] - Goba 891
  by Erkki Seppälä (http://freshmeat.net/users/eras/)
  Sun, May 4th 2008 07:11

Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy

About: Goba (Game Of Bases) is a remake of the classic Flash Attack game
featuring pre-rendered graphics, sound, and networking (no computer
opponents) with meta-server support. You control four tanks and try to
destroy enemy bases while defending your own. The tanks have weapons, a
set of mines, and the capability to build walls and fake bases, all of
which may be recharged back at the base. The bases have a limited number
of bomb attacks in their disposal, plus a laser beam that can cut through
the whole game field (2000 x 2000 pixels).

Changes: This release fixes an issue with constantly opening the font
file, which eventually lead to a crash. You may now click a location for a
tank and have the tank move itself autonomously there.

[018] - Hammock 1.3
  by Ernest Hammingweight (http://freshmeat.net/users/hammingweight/)
  Sun, May 4th 2008 14:01

Software Development :: Testing

About: Hammock is a mock object framework for J2ME devices. It is used in
conjunction with unit test frameworks like JMUnit and J2MEUnit. The
framework includes mocks for many of the J2ME UI and I/O classes as well
as a utility, HammockMaker, for generating mocks of other classes.

Changes: This release adds an Ant task, testlistener, that can be used
with JMUnit to make continuous integration testing possible; no manual
intervention is required to run or verify the tests. In particular, a
broken test causes an Ant build to fail. The demo application,
ObjectStreams, has been extended with more unit tests and to show how
continuous integration testing is now possible. Mock objects from the
java.util package (e.g. MockDate and MockRandom) have been added to the
distribution.

About: libprngwrap is a preload-library (so that it doesn't require any
changes to the software it alters) which replaces the libc rand() random()
and *rand48() calls by code that gets data from /dev/urandom. This might be
a little bit more secure.

Changes: The previous version would occasionally return values out of the
range specified in the specs. This has been fixed.

[026] - libsixdof 0.0.2
  by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
  Sun, May 4th 2008 23:32

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling

About: libsixdof provides C and C++ interfaces to 6 degrees of freedom
devices. The library is intended to be very unobtrusive to an application,
allowing support to be implemented without great effort. For example, an
application might only need to issue 3-4 API calls to tell libsixdof about
Xwindow objects that it should monitor. Apart from those setup calls,
functions that are useful for controllers should be registered with
libsixdof. The configuration of the device (how its axis movements map to
these registered functions) is then taken care of completely by libsixdof.
The application doesn't really need to care what 6dof device is attached,
where it is attached (USB, etc.), what its name is, or if there is more
than one.

Changes: Button binding support was added. The API was extended to allow
an application to have more than one window managed by libsixdof. The
public C++ interface is now pure virtual to help future extensions to
avoid breaking ABI compatability.

[031] - MeTA1 1.0.PreAlpha26.0
  by Claus Assmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/casmx/)
  Sun, May 4th 2008 23:30

About: MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of
five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A
queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send
email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps
(including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the
other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager
organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to
avoid overloading the local or remote systems by implementing a central
control instance. It is simple to configure using a C-like syntax and is
secure and efficient.

Changes: The value part of a mailertable entry can now follow the same
syntax as the MeTA1 configuration file. This is another step to use the
syntax rules also in all maps for consistency and flexibility.

[033] - nss-ldapd 0.6.2
  by Arthur (http://freshmeat.net/users/tiearthur/)
  Sun, May 4th 2008 14:13

System :: Networking :: LDAP
System :: Systems Administration

About: nss-ldapd is a (glibc) NSS module for doing name lookups to an LDAP
server. This module allows retrieval of information about Unix accounts,
groups, hosts, and other information from an LDAP directory. It is a fork
from the nss_ldap module to do some architectural changes. This
implementation splits the functionality into an NSS part and a local
daemon to do the lookups. This works around a number of problems in the
original implementation.

Changes: This release mainly fixes a number of bugs in 0.6.1 and adds some
new functionality, mainly to add support for Active Directory. The timing
and retry mechanisms have been changed, and some speed improvements should
be noticeable with very large installations.

About: Spindown is a daemon to spin down idle disks and thus save energy
and give the disks a longer lifetime. It also works with USB disks and
hot-swappable disks because it uses the device ID to identify the disk
instead of the device name (such as hda or sdb). This means that it
doesn't matter if the disk is swapped while the daemon is running.
