[001] - BRL-CAD 7.12.4
by BRL-CAD (http://freshmeat.net/users/brlcad/)
Sun, Jun 22nd 2008 19:24
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
About: BRL-CAD is a powerful constructive solid geometry solid modeling
system that includes an interactive geometry editor, ray-tracing support
for rendering and geometric analysis, path-tracing for realistic image
synthesis, network distributed framebuffer support, and image and
signal-processing tools.
Changes: This release contains numerous enhancements to MGED's mirror
command, now with the ability to mirror an object across arbitrary vectors
or points along a standard axis. Additionally, nirt now has a new "gap"
option for reporting the empty spaces between objects. There is a new tool
for procedurally creating vehicle tires with given specifications,
resulting in impressively realistic tires. Also included are a variety of
other bugfixes to mged, rt, and rtedge.

System :: Filesystems
System :: Networking
About: ccgfs is a transport-agnostic network filesystem using FUSE.
Transport is arranged by helper programs, such as SSH. The PUSH transport
mode acts like a "reverse" NFS and makes it possible to export a filesystem
from a firewalled host without defeating the security model.
Changes: Automatic subprocess restarting was not completely working.

Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Scientific/Engineering
About: CODESH (COllaborative DEvelopment SHell) is an automatic persistent
logbook for sessions of personal command line work. It records what and how
is being done, for private use/reuse and for sharing selected parts with
collaborators. It is an intelligent shell that automatically logs user's
shell sessions. Sessions are uniquely tagged and stored in local or
distributed backend repositories (ASCII flat file or Subversion or CVS
based) and can be extracted and reproduced at any time by the user who
created the session or by collaborators located anywhere in the world.
Changes: This version improves the user experience by hardening the
frontend and the Subversion, CVS, and ASCII backends. The checks on user
input are extended, and now users are warned in basically all situations if
they try to run commands with wrong number of parameters. The verifications
if the backend repositories are up and running when the users try to access
them are extended with dynamic checks, approaching complete coverage.

About: CUPS-PDF is a PDF writer backend for CUPS. It is designed to
produce PDF files in a heterogeneous network by providing a PDF printer on
the central fileserver. It will convert files printed to its queue in CUPS
to PDF and put them in a per-user-based directory structure. It can execute
post-processing scripts, e.g. to allow mailing the results to the user.
Changes: A memory allocation that was too small for the postprocessing
string was fixed. Further, the bundled SELinux .te-file was updated and a
typographical error in the documentation was corrected.

Sun, Jun 22nd 2008 14:53
System :: Recovery Tools
About: ext3undel is a collection of scripts to help you recover deleted
files from ext2/ext3 file systems. ext3undel tries to automate most of the
difficult manual work of recovery so that it may be possible to recover a
single specified file or all data on a given disk.
Changes: With this release, you can probably find more of your lost files.
It solves a little problem with the root mount point and iNode evaluation.
It fixes a bug where if one element of the file path was a symlink, ralf
never found the iNode. Configuration files have been added; you should no
longer edit the scripts themselves.

[012] - HAproxy 1.3.15.2 (Development)
by Willy Tarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
Sun, Jun 22nd 2008 13:31
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking
About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP and HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, content-based switching,
advanced traffic regulation with surge protection, automatic failover,
run-time regex-based header control, Web-based reporting, advanced logging
to help trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few
other features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 20,000 hits per
second and surpasses GigaEthernet on modern hardware, even with tens of
thousands of simultaneous connections.
Changes: The queue/dequeue logic was reworked; using a low server maxconn
value to serialize requests could result in some requests never being
served. Users are encouraged to upgrade, especially those running haproxy
in front of mongrel. All versions are affected. Version 1.3.14.6 was also
released to address this problem in the previous branch.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: jpwgen is a Java-based password generator that can be used as a
command line program or as a library. The implemented functionality
resembles the one provided by the popular pwgen program. The basic idea is
generating passwords that, although relatively easy to remember, are
complex enough for real-life usage. jpwdgen uses regular expressions for
checking different types of conditions such as whether a password starts
with a symbol or not, with a digit or not, etc. It supports blacklists and
different types of secure random generators. As an embedded library, it can
be employed in the process of password generation against certain password
policies or for password suggestion services.

Sun, Jun 22nd 2008 23:36
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements and
operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: A new example program (cellauto.sd7), which simulates cellular
automata, was added. Test cases for the @:= statement were added to the
chkstr.sd7 program. The compiler (comp.sd7) was improved such that the
generated code raises MEMORY_ERROR when the 'malloc' function fails.
Support for the actions SET_ICONV and SET_SCONV was added to the (hi)
interpreter and the compiler. The compiler was improved to optionally
generate code without range checks for the STR_ELEMCPY action. The handling
of functions returning references to existing objects in the compiler was
improved.

by Michael Stroeder (http://freshmeat.net/users/stroeder/)

Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking :: LDAP
About: web2ldap is a full-featured Web-based LDAPv3 client written in
Python. It is designed to run either as with stand-alone built-in Web
server or under the control of another Web server with FastCGI support
(e.g. Apache with mod_fastcgi). It has support for various LDAPv3 bind
methods and a powerful built-in schema browser. HTML templates are
supported for displaying and editing entries, and LDIF templates can be
used for quickly adding new entries. A built-in X.509 parser displays a
detailed view of certificates and CRLs with active links.
Changes: This release fixes some regressions and adds work-arounds (e.g.
for bugs in OpenDS). Delta-modification now explicitly deletes old values
if an attribute has an EQUALITY matching rule.
