System :: Monitoring

About: AKK@DA is a network monitoring system designed for small and
mid-sized computer networks. Its purpose is to quickly detect system or
network faults and to display information about any detected problems for
the administrator. AKK@DA is designed as a pro-active network monitor. It
does not need to be provided with information from any agents, systems,
etc. It collects information automatically every single minute (this period
can be shortened even to 1 second if needed). Almost all services of the
monitored hosts are discovered automatically.

Changes: A new network faults inference engine that detects network faults
and correlate them to identify the root cause was added. GTalk and
Gadu-Gadu notifications were added along with top 10 utilization reporting,
histograms of test periodicity, new search options, support for Cisco PIX
IPSec tunnels, LVS, Powerware UPS, and F5 BigIP (TMM, virtual servers,
pools, nodes, failover, fans, power supplies, temperature), and a freshness
guard that watches if services are tested frequently enough. This release
contains many fixes and improvements and is available as a stand-alone app
and VMware appliance.

System :: Networking

About: gwhois is a generic whois client (and server) which strives to
know the right server to query for each and every top level domain and IP
address. You can ask gwhois about a domain or IP address, and it will
automatically forward your query to the appropriate server. It even
queries whois servers that can only be reached by a Web form, and outputs
the results as text. It can be used as a client or as a relaying server,
so you can use your normal whois client to ask gwhois.

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: HDBC provides an abstraction layer between Haskell programs and SQL
relational databases. This lets you write database code once, in Haskell,
and have it work with any number of backend SQL databases (MySQL, Oracle,
PostgreSQL, ODBC-compliant databases, etc.) HDBC is modeled loosely on
Perl's DBI interface, though it has also been influenced by Python's DB-API

  Thu, Jun 26th 2008 12:21

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Office/Business :: Groupware
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Inverse SOGo Connector for Thunderbird is an extension which
transforms Thunderbird into a full DAV client for groupware servers such as
SOGo, OpenGroupware.org, and Citadel. It does this by adding support for
remote DAV address books and by adding features to be used along with the
Lightning calendar extension. It is a merge of the Lightning Enhancer and
the GroupDAV Addressbook Connector.

Changes: The response from the server is now checked to avoid
inconsistencies and loss of data when synchronizing the address book. The
ACL is taken into account when changing the target calendar of the edited
event. "Full access" is given to the user when editing local calendars.

  by Wolfgang Sourdeau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wsourdeau/)
  Thu, Jun 26th 2008 12:22

Office/Business :: Groupware

About: Inverse SOGo Integrator for Thunderbird is an extension that
transforms Thunderbird into a pure "heavy" client for SOGo. Whereas the
SOGo Connector is meant for portability, the SOGo Integrator provides
"vertical" integration with the SOGo groupware server by making use of the
specific features it provides. The general features provided are: remote
administration of folder subscriptions, an automatic replication of user
folders and subscriptions, propagation of updates to chosen extensions from
a local update server, and propagation of default settings and integrated
GUI elements.

Changes: The user's email address can now be used to construct URLs for
SOGo. Returned data is now validated when synchronizing folders to avoid
removing existing folders when the server returns an inconsistent response.
The user password is intercepted for the "SOGo site" (mail server + SOGo
server) and the relevant dialogs are automatically filled.

  Thu, Jun 26th 2008 13:33

System :: Software Distribution Tools
System :: Systems Administration

About: Patch Check Advanced (pca) generates lists of installed and missing
patches for Sun Solaris systems and optionally downloads patches. It
resolves dependencies between patches and installs them in the correct
order. It works on all versions of Solaris and on both SPARC and x86.

Changes: A new option to list patches with a maximum age (--maxage=DAYS)
has been added. DIR/reconfigure is created (instead of /reconfigure) when
using --root=DIR. An ignorable error message is not shown from showrev.
Required patches which were never released were fixed: 125077, 125078.
Whitelist add patches 120185, 120186 and obsolete patches were removed.
Checks added for patches 137112, 119252, 119253, 136987, 136986, 127553,
127554 were applied, and obsoleted patches were removed.

Text Editors

About: peppy ((ap)Proximated (X)Emacs Powered by Python) is a
wxPython/Scintilla-based editor written in and extensible through Python.
It attempts to provide an XEmacs-like multi-window, multi-tabbed framework
with low coupling, so it's easy to add support for new types of files.

Changes: This release adds a much-improved auto-indenter for C-like
languages that handles switch statements, classes, and namespaces. Other
improvements to the editor include an alert if the file has been modified
by an external application, setting bookmarks within files, and fixes to
the Windows key bindings. The hyperspectral image mode now has the
capability to generate subsets of images and can export in BIP, BIL, and
BSQ interleave format.

Database
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: pg_pqueue is a Python package that provides low-level PQ protocol
classes for interacting with a PostgreSQL database. It supports version 3.0
of the protocol. The package also provides a basic protocol transaction
class. This class keeps the state of the protocol in an interrupt safe
manner, and validates the integrity of the communication as messages are
received. In general, you probably will never use this package directly,
unless you are writing a driver.

Changes: Signedness in TupleDescriptor messages and Describe(Portal)
transactions were fixed.

[031] - Raptor RDF Parser and Serializer Library 1.4.18
  by Dave Beckett (http://freshmeat.net/users/dajobe/)
  Thu, Jun 26th 2008 12:37

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: Raptor is a C library providing a set of parsers and serializers
for Resource Description Framework (RDF) triples by parsing syntaxes into
RDF triples and serializing triples into a syntax. The parsers support
RDF/XML, N-Triples, GRDDL, and Turtle, and via RSS tag soup: XML RSS, Atom
0.3, and Atom 1.0. The serializers support RDF/XML (3 flavours), Turtle,
DOT, N-Triples, RSS 1.0, and Atom 1.0. Raptor handles RDF/XML as used by
RDF applications such as RSS 1.0, FOAF, DOAP, Dublin Core, and OWL. It can
use either expat or libxml2 for XML parsing, libcurl when available for URI
retrieval, and is portable to many POSIX systems.

Changes: An RDFa parser was added using an embedded version of librdfa by
Manu Sporny of Digital Bazaar. An Atom 1.0 (RFC 4287) serializer with
several output parameters was added. The RSS 1.0 serializer functionality
was improved and made more resilient. Several new API methods were added
for qname, serializer, sequence, and XML writer classes. Many other fixes
and resilience improvements were made.

Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy

About: Really Rather Good Battles In Space is a real time strategy game
with fleets of spaceships. It is a single player real time strategy game
following the fall of the great Artilian empire. It features a short but
relatively polished single player campaign, pretty (albeit 2d) graphics,
spaceships, and explosions.

Changes: Freetype is now used for font rendering. Unicode is supported for
mission scripts. Larger ships move twice as fast, meaning faster gameplay.
The 1280*1024 resolution option was added again. Some other minor changes
were made. The Linux Makefile was almost certainly broken.

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: strongSwan is a complete IPsec and IKEv1 implementation for Linux
2.4 and 2.6 kernels. It also fully supports the new IKEv2 protocol with
Linux 2.6 kernels. It interoperates in both IKEv1 and IKEv2 mode with most
other IPsec-based VPN products. The focus of the strongSwan project is on
strong authentication mechanisms using X.509 public key certificates and
optional secure storage of private keys on smartcards through a
standardized PKCS#11 interface. A unique feature is the use of X.509
attribute certificates to implement advanced access control schemes based
on group memberships.

Changes: Support was added for elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman groups and
X.509 certificates with ECDSA keys via an optional OpenSSL plugin. MOBIKE
now correctly migrates ESP sequence numbers when doing IPsec SA updates.
