[001] - 123 Flash Chat Server 1.5 (Joomla! Chat Module)
by 123fcserver (http://freshmeat.net/users/123fcserver/)
Mon, Jul 21st 2008 08:41
Communications :: Chat
About: 123 Flash Chat Server is a full-featured chat server for high-load
Web sites. It features a range of customization options, can be smoothly
integrated with the database of almost any popular portal or forum system
including Joomla!, phpBB, PHP-Nuke, and PostNuke, includes plain text chat
and video chat options, and is scalable enough to fit the needs of small
business and large enterprises.
Changes: This module provides assistance in embedding the chat room with
seamless integration with the existing Joomla! database so that the Joomla!
users don't have to register or login again to access the chat feature. The
module can also display the following data in the Joomla! Web pages to
reflect information about the chat room and chat users dynamically: the
connection number of the Joomla! chat, the number of users in the chat
room, the number of chat rooms, and a list of all chat users' names.

Education
Software Development :: Documentation
System :: Systems Administration
About: The Advanced Bash Scripting Guide is both a reference and a
tutorial on shell scripting. This comprehensive book (the equivalent of
900+ print pages) covers almost every aspect of shell scripting. It
contains 350 profusely commented illustrative examples, a number of tables,
and a cross-linked index/glossary. Not just a shell scripting tutorial,
this book also provides an introduction to basic programming techniques,
such as sorting and recursion. It is well suited for either individual
study or classroom use. It covers Bash, up to and including version 3.25.
Changes: Much new material was added, including 7 new example scripts,
among them a man page editor and a standard deviation script. Much-need
clarification of certain sections and, of course, the usual round of
bugfixes were done.

About: constat is an application that monitors, logs, and reports the
activity of network connections present on a system. It reports
sent/received traffic information for every live network device, giving you
the option of displaying its output in units of kilobytes, megabytes, and
gigabytes, along with the number of transmitted packets. It also includes a
real time monitoring option based on a timer. Additionally, constat
provides the option to view the socket table (local/remote IPs with ports
they are binded to) for a specific protocol or all protocols at once. It
does not require the X server.
Changes: There is a new log format (more grep-friendly). The protocols
udplite and raw have been added. Unix sockets support, monitoring interval
setting (-m[=seconds]), and background mode (-b and -x options) have been

Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for instant scalable full-text
search on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It
features a built-in database crawler following user-defined SQL,
incremental indexing, user-controllable result ranking, the ability to
return results with highlights (like Google), and categorized result counts
(like Amazon). It can easily integrate with other languages with
XML/JSON/HTML. There is a UI for all operations, so no Java coding is
necessary. Deleted or updated records in database can be synchronized also.
Changes: Javadoc for rendering the search result was added. The speed of
data retrieval was increased by batching de-duplication checking. A file
deletion error on Windows was fixed. Logging was added for direct Lucene
queries. Search usage logging based on IP for servers behind proxies was
improved.

[012] - DKMS 2.0.20.2
by Mario (http://freshmeat.net/users/mario_limonciello/)
Mon, Jul 21st 2008 23:21
System :: Systems Administration
About: DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support) is a framework where device
driver source can reside outside the kernel source tree so that it is very
easy to rebuild modules as you upgrade kernels. This allows Linux vendors
to provide driver drops without having to wait for new kernel releases (as
a stopgap before the code can make it back into the kernel), while also
taking out the guesswork for customers attempting to recompile modules for
new kernels. For veteran Linux users it also provides some advantages since
a separate framework for driver drops will remove kernel releases as a
blocking mechanism for distributing code.
Changes: This release resolves minor bugs with the auto installation
service in indicating failures.

Security :: Cryptography
About: ipt_pkd is an iptables extension implementing port knock detection
with SPA (single packet authorization). This project provides 3 parts: the
kernel module ipt_pkd, the iptables user space module libipt_pkd.so, and a
user space client knock program. For the knock packet, it uses a UDP packet
sent to a random port that contains a SHA-256 of a timestamp, small header,
random bytes, and a shared key. ipt_pkd checks the time window of the
packet and does the SHA-256 to verify the packet. The shared key is never
sent.
Changes: This release adds Tags to allow for more efficient processing
when you are using multiple keys, basic proc_fs stats, 2.6.25 kernel
support, a packet list to reduce replays even when the window is 0, the
ability for the window to be 0 to ignore time window, iptables 1.4.1.1
support, incompatible packet format, and support for older packet formats
in the knock programs.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: PMwiki is a wiki-based system for collaborative creation and
maintenance of Web sites. PmWiki pages look and act like normal Web pages,
except they have an "Edit" link that makes it easy to modify existing pages
and add new pages into the Web site, using basic editing rules. You do not
need to know or use any HTML or CSS. Page editing can be left open to the
public or restricted to small groups of authors. The JumpBox for PMwiki
makes it possible for anyone to be up and running with PMwiki in under a
minute on any operating system that supports virtualization.
Changes: This JumpBox is now running on the production release of the
v.1.1 platform, and includes several enhancements. Most notably, this
includes built-in automated backups to Amazon S3, integrated Web stats for
the application, a GUI-based SSL cert configuration tool, a GUI-based
method for configuring an email relay, and an update of the underlying OS
to Ubuntu Base 8.04 LTS.

About: Manent is an algorithmically strong backup and archival program. It
features efficient backup to anything that looks like storage. Currently it
supports plain filesystems ("directories"), FTP, and SFTP. Planned are
Amazon S3, optical disks, and email (SMTP and IMAP). It can work (making
progress towards finishing a backup) over a slow and unreliable network. It
can offer online access to the contents of the backup. Backed up storage is
completely encrypted. Backup is incremental, including changed parts of
large files. Moved, renamed, and duplicate files will not require
additional storage. Several computers can use the same storage for backup,
automatically sharing data. Both very large and very small files are
supported efficiently. Manent does not rely on timestamps of the remote
