[005] - Common UNIX Printing System 1.3.8
by Michael Sweet (http://freshmeat.net/users/easysw/)
Tue, Jul 22nd 2008 22:06
Internet
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries
About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating
systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for
all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley command
line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP") as the
basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon (LPD)
Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect) protocols are
also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network printer
browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing options
to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image file RIP
that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers. A
customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP Ghostscript
is available separately to support printing of PostScript files within the
CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON, HP, and OKIDATA
printers are included that use these filters.
Changes: This release fixes some performance and printing bugs.

[006] - dhcpcd 4.0.0-rc1
by Roy Marples (http://freshmeat.net/users/uberl0rd/)
Tue, Jul 22nd 2008 14:44
About: dhcpcd is an RFC2131-, RFC2132-, and RFC1541-compliant DHCP client
daemon. It gets an IP address and other information from the DHCP server,
automatically configures the network interface, and tries to renew the
lease time according to RFC2131 or RFC1541.
Changes: This version supports link carrier detection and can background
immediately. Configuration can now be stored in a file. Apple's Bonjour
conformance tests are now passed. The DHCP parsing code was rewritten and
is 15K smaller. It is now compatible with dhclient style scripts.
NetworkManager 0.7.0 is supported. InfiniBand and Firewire are now
supported along with Ethernet.

[008] - Elixir 0.6.0
by Gaetan de Menten (http://freshmeat.net/users/gedeon/)
Tue, Jul 22nd 2008 14:18
Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
About: Elixir is a declarative layer on top of SQLAlchemy. It is a fairly
thin wrapper that provides the ability to define model objects following
the Active Record design pattern, and using a DSL syntax similar to that of
the Ruby on Rails ActiveRecord system. It does not intend to replace
SQLAlchemy's core features, but instead focuses on providing a simpler
syntax for defining model objects when you do not need the full
expressiveness of SQLAlchemy's manual mapper definitions.
Changes: This release features support for SQLAlchemy 0.5, better support
for entities spread across several modules, new methods on the base entity
to update entities from or dump entities to a hierarchical (JSON-like)
dictionary structure, and other miscellaneous improvements. The default
session characteristics were also changed to be more in line with
SQLAlchemy defaults (if you were using the default session, please look at
the upgrade notes). It also features a bunch of bugfixes, mostly related to
non-default schema and autoloaded entities.

[009] - Firewall Builder 3.0.0 rev 407 (Beta)
by Vadim Kurland (http://freshmeat.net/users/vkurland/)
Tue, Jul 22nd 2008 18:08
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Firewall Builder consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for
various firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects
and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. The GUI
and policy compilers are completely independent, which provides for a
consistent abstract model and the same GUI for different firewall
platforms. It currently supports iptables, ipfilter, ipfw, OpenBSD pf,
Cisco PIX and FWSM, and Cisco routers access lists.
Changes: Beta testing of 3.0 continues. This revision includes bugfixes in
the GUI in the rule grouping functions, patches to make code compile with
gcc 4.3, and fixes for x86 systems.

Artistic Software
Multimedia :: Graphics
Utilities
About: FLAM3 is the rendering engine for the Electric Sheep distributed
screensaver. It allows you to manipulate, animate, render, and evolve
abstract imagery.
Changes: SVN is now used instead of CVS, so anyone who previously checked
out source should start over. This is especially important because there
was a rendering bug checked into the tip of CVS over the weekend that
causes the frames to come out a little dark. A configuration option was
added for atomic-ops. Floating point palettes are no longer truncated. New
motion blur features include the addition of temporal_filter_type, which
can be "box" (default) or "gaussian" or "exp". A Python script for
regression and consistency checking was added.

Tue, Jul 22nd 2008 14:28
Communications
Multimedia :: Video :: Display
About: FlowPlayer is a video player for Flash Video in FLV and H.264
formats. The UI is clean, simple, and customizable. The player is easy to
configure and embed into your home page, site, or blog. The player supports
progressive download with HTTP and also streaming with Lighttpd, PHP, and
other scripting, Flash Media Server, and Red5. It also supports MP3 audio.
Changes: flow.embed, the FlowPlayer embedding tool, has a new fallback
parameter you can use to play high-quality videos in H.264 format so that
the player will automatically offer FLV videos for users that don't have
Flash 9.0.115 or greater, which is needed to support H.264. A new version
of flashembed, the generic Flash embedding script, is included with fixes
for Mac Safari and Internet Explorer. A bug with Google Analytics where
statistics were provided for clips called "undefined" or events called
"null" was fixed along with other issues.

[027] - PHP MIME Mail decoder class 2008.07.17
by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
Tue, Jul 22nd 2008 12:52
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP MIME Mail decoder class is a PHP class to parse and decode MIME
email messages. It supports decoding single RFC 2822 MIME messages or
archives that aggregate multiple messages in the mbox format. It can decode
messages read from files or data strings. The bodies of multipart messages
can be decoded into distinct sub-messages. Optionally, the message body
data can be saved to separate files, so the class can handle messages
larger than the available memory. The parser can tolerate some syntax
errors in malformed messages that are not compliant with RFC 2822.
Changes: This release adds a class variable to limit the length of message
data chunks that are parsed at a time in order to reduce the memory usage
when parsing large messages passed to the class as strings.

[030] - ReleaseForge 1.3
by Phil Schwartz (http://freshmeat.net/users/phil_schwartz/)
Tue, Jul 22nd 2008 07:42
About: ReleaseForge is a GUI application designed for project
administrators and release engineers of projects that are hosted at
SourceForge. It is intended to make it easier and faster to create a new
release and edit existing releases rather than using the SourceForge Web
interface. It streamlines the release effort by prompting you for
information regarding your new release (version info, change log, release
notes, files to include, etc). It then seamlessly negotiates with the
SourceForge Web server, creating your release, posting your release
notes/change log, uploading your files to the SourceForge FTP server,
selecting the files for inclusion in your release on the SourceForge Web
server, updating the file attributes of each of the files and then, if
appropriate, notifying monitoring users of the new release.
Changes: Sourceforge has recently deprecated the FTP upload mechanism.
This policy change cripples ReleaseForge prior to 1.3. ReleaseForge now
uploads files to Sourceforge via SFTP (one of the new supported methods).
Prior to running ReleaseForge 1.3, you will need to obtain Paramiko 1.74 or
greater. ReleaseFroge uses the paramiko module for uploading files to
SourceForge via SFTP. Paramiko can be downloaded from
http://www.lag.net/paramiko/.

[033] - sqlDoInstall 1.7
by Mario Bucsics (http://freshmeat.net/users/bucsicsm/)
Tue, Jul 22nd 2008 21:51
About: sqlDoInstall will help you to install new SQL scripts and keep
track of the versions applied to your Oracle database. It allows you to
rerun a failed script and restart from the point where it has failed in a
previous run. It does not apply a driver+script combination that has been
installed successfully. The "driver" and the supplied SQL uniquely
identifies your script across the database. It'll create two tables:
driverinst contains details, and driverinst_head contains a summary of the
installation process. SQL installation, schema upgrades, and version
tracking are easy.
Changes: A bug in the creation of objects where columns are named like
'%function', '%procedure','%trigger', etc. has been fixed. The environment
variable "SQL_DEBUG" can be set to either 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 will report
occurrences of create function, trigger, procedure, and anonymous pl-sql
blocks. Level 2 is level 1 plus generated SQL statements. Level 3 is level
2 plus every line read from the input file.

[034] - TBCI 2.5.5 (Stable)
by Kurt Garloff (http://freshmeat.net/users/garloff/)
Tue, Jul 22nd 2008 22:10
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: TBCI is a C++ library which provides classes for Vectors, Matrices,
etc., and defines operations on them such as additions, multiplications,
etc. There are many Matrix classes providing specializations for different
sparse matrices. They all feature a similar interface. TBCI comes with an
extensive set of solvers for linear systems and an interface to lapack
libraries. It uses the temporary base class idiom, which avoids unnecessary
copying of data by having a notion of real and temporary objects which are
treated differently with respect to assignment and copy c'tor.
Changes: This release features a collection of minor fixes. There have
been two areas of significant improvement. f_matrix.h had a number of bugs.
Test programs (test/test_matrix*) and a code review triggered many bugs
that have been resolved. The malloc_cache code was not thread-safe. This
was no issue for TBCI itself, as it did not do memory (de)allocations in
threads. A safeguard to only use it in the main thread has been added.
