[001] - Amahi Linux Home Server 8.16
  by cpg (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpg/)
  Fri, Jul 25th 2008 17:33

Information Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: The Amahi Home Server is a Linux Home Server based on Fedora (and
later on Ubuntu). Your machine becomes a "Home Digital Assistant" or HDA
after the installation. Each HDA is a Fedora-based server targeted for home
and home office environments. It provides an iTunes server, calendaring, a
wiki, shared network storage, network backups, a printer server, VPN, and a
plug-in architecture built on Ruby on Rails.

Changes: A much improved version of the installer (hda-install) is
included. The Amahi HDA daemon, with a brand new dynamic DNS system, is
included.

[002] - apparix 08-206
  by Stijn van Dongen (http://freshmeat.net/users/micans/)
  Fri, Jul 25th 2008 10:51

System :: Shells

About: Apparix allows one to bookmark directories and later jump to them
using the mark. By default, it acts as a replacement for cd and can be used
in the same manner, including the special behaviour for cd without argument
and "cd -". It is possible to directly jump to subdirectories of a
bookmarked directory. The contributed bash completion code facilitates
completion both on bookmarks and directories, but can be adjusted to
accommodate other preferences.

Changes: Apparix now acts by default as a drop-in replacement for cd and
can be used in the same manner, including the special behavior for cd
without argument and "cd -". Bookmarks, subdirectories of the bookmark, and
directories specified in the regular way can all be navigated and completed
transparently. This merging of cd with bookmarks can be customized to a
large extent.

[007] - deco archive file extractor 1.2
  by P. Hartlich (http://freshmeat.net/users/phartlich/)
  Fri, Jul 25th 2008 14:45

System :: Archiving

About: deco is a generic archive file extractor that has a consistent
command line interface ("deco 1.tar.bz2 2.zip 3.flac 4.rar 5.deb" will just
work) and consistent behavior (it never deletes archives after extraction,
extracts relative to the current working directory, and extracts just
verbosely enough, all unless explicitly requested otherwise). It provides
automatic handling of extractor gotchas by creating an extraction directory
if there is more than one file or directory at the archive top level and by
being able to fix strange permissions. Dozens of archive file extensions
are supported out of the box, and adding support for others requires very
little work.

Changes: This release adds support for alz and lzo archives. The core code
has been cleaned.

  Fri, Jul 25th 2008 14:30

Text Processing

About: lesspipe.sh is an input filter for the pager less as described in
less's man page. The script runs under a ksh-compatible shell (ksh, bash,
zsh) and allows you to use less to view files with binary content,
compressed files, archives, and files contained in archives. Viewing files
by accessing a device file is implemented to some extent (DOS filesystems
and tar files). It supports many formats (both as plain and compressed
files using compress, gzip, bzip2, or zip). Syntax highlighting for many
languages is available through a helper script, "code2color".

Changes: lesspipe now displays human-readable information for even more
file types. Support for viewing gpg encrypted files and binary plist files
(MacOS X) has been included. For HTML display, the program links is now
preferred over lynx, and mp3 file information can be viewed using id3v2.
The configure script now correctly works with the most recent file command.
Several other minor corrections have been made as well.

messaging server and networking API. It includes client-side networking
APIs for various languages, including C, C++, C#, Delphi, Java, and Python.
MUSCLE lets programs communicate over a network via streams of serialized
Message objects. The included server program ("muscled") lets its clients
message each other and store information in its server-side hierarchical
database. The database supports flexible queries via hierarchical
wildcarding, and "live" updates via a subscription mechanism.

Changes: PrintStackTrace() was implemented for Mac OS X Leopard. The
Hashtable Clear() method was imporved to be re-entrant. Various other minor
tweaks were made.

About: Natural CLI is a Java library that provides developers with an easy
way to use human readable command line interfaces. This means that your
software can understand easy command lines like "$acme start daemon
mailservice", "$acme send file /tmp/pau.jpg to friend", or "$acme start
backup in 10 minutes". Command lines are very easy to define.

Changes: This release adds a bugfix regarding optional parameters.

[030] - ns4 4.1.3
  by Chris Mason (http://freshmeat.net/users/chrimaso/)
  Fri, Jul 25th 2008 14:26

Utilities

About: ns4 is a configuration management tool which allows the automated
backup of just about anything, but it was designed for routers and
switches. If you are able to log into it through a CLI, you can back it up.
Commands are defined within a configuration file, and when they are
executed, the output is sent to a series of FTP servers for archiving. As
well as archiving configurations, it allows scripts to be run on nodes;
this allows configurations to be applied en masse and allows conditional
logic so different bits of scripts are run on different nodes.

Changes: This release fixes a couple of regression bugs regarding
processing of special variables with brackets. It also adds support for
proxy implied tags as well as base64 support for encoded passwords.
