[013] - CodeWorker 4.5.1

  Mon, Jul 28th 2008 17:21

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: CodeWorker is a versatile parsing tool and a universal source code
generator. It interprets a scripting language for producing reusable,
tailor-made, evolving, and reliable IT systems with a high level of
automation. The file formats to parse are described in an extended-BNF
syntax. Template-based scripts drive the writing of patterns for generating
code or text. The code generation knows how to preserve protected areas
with hand-typed code and provides code expansion, source-to-source
translation, and program transformation. It provides a native translation
of CodeWorker's scripts in C++.

Changes: Serialization/unmarshaling of a parse tree is now possible via a
readable text format; see saveProject()/loadProject(). Debug sessions
display the location (line/col) in the currently parsed file after each
progression step in the controlling sequence of a parse script. A bug has
been fixed in how customized syntax error messages are raised.

  by Florian Forster (http://freshmeat.net/users/flocto/)
  Mon, Jul 28th 2008 14:16

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: collectd is a small and modular daemon which collects system
information periodically and provides means to store the values. Included
in the distribution are numerous plug-ins for collecting CPU, disk, and
memory usage, network interface and DNS traffic, network latency, database
statistics, and much more. Custom statistics can easily be added in a
number of ways, including execution of arbitrary programs and plug-ins
written in Perl. Advanced features include a powerful network code to
collect statistics for entire setups and SNMP integration to query network
equipment.

Changes: The build system has been changed to try harder to determine the
endianness of the target architecture and to use pkg-config to look for the
upsclient library, needed by the NUT plugin. An issue in the network plugin
under Solaris has been addressed. The disk plugin has been fixed to work
with Linux 2.4. An incompatibility between older versions of BIND and the
DNS plugin has been resolved. All occurrences of "unsafe" functions have
been replaced.

[020] - dtrx 6.2
  by Brett Smith (http://freshmeat.net/users/bretts/)
  Mon, Jul 28th 2008 15:49

About: dtrx intelligently extracts many different archive types. It will
get the contents from tar, zip, rpm, deb, and cpio archives, as well as
compressed files, with one simple command. It helps keep your filesystem
sane by putting every archive's contents into a dedicated directory, and
making sure the owner can read and write whatever's extracted. It can even
recursively extract archives.

Changes: This version adds a --one-entry option, so you can specify ahead
of time how to handle archives that contain a single file or directory.
This release also fixes a number of bugs pertaining to listing the contents
of misnamed archives, removing partially extracted archives after errors,
and cleaning up a lot of error messages.

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Pulse is an automated build (or continuous integration) server
designed to work with you to ensure the integrity of your code. Pulse
regularly checks your source code out from your SCM, builds your projects,
and notifies you of the results. Key features include simple setup and
administration using a full-featured Web UI, adapability to existing
environments, distributed building, personal builds (test using Pulse
before committing), and individual developer dashboards and notification
preferences.

Changes: This is a beta build in the 2.0 series. Updates were made to
allow post-stage actions to reset agents. This is particularly useful when
running agents on clean VM images. Agents may be marked for disabling when
a running build completes. A configurable timeout may be set to elapse
before deeming an agent to be uncontactable during a build (rather than
failing at the first failed ping). Help during wizards is supported.
Several bugs were fixed.

[064] - sshguard 1.1
  by Mij (http://freshmeat.net/users/mijio/)
  Mon, Jul 28th 2008 15:51

Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Sshguard monitors services through their logging activity. It
reacts to messages about dangerous activity by blocking the source address
with the local firewall. Sshguard employs a clever parser that can
transparently recognize several logging formats at once (syslog, syslog-ng,
metalog, multilog, raw messages), and detects attacks for many services out
of the box, including SSH, several ftpds, and dovecot. It can operate all
the major firewalling systems, and features support for IPv6, whitelisting,
suspension, and log message authentication.

Changes: This version adds support for log message authentication,
suspension, new blocking backends (for IPFILTER and AIX' firewall), the new
logging format metalog, and a live debug mode (-d) for helping users in
problem solving. It fixes a parser bug when recognizing certain IPv6
addresses and a segfault when the pipe to sshguard is closed unexpectedly.
The "hosts" backend no longer discards temporary files. Monitoring for new
services was added out-of-the-box: dovecot IMAP, UWimap IMAP and POP,
FreeBSD's ftpd, Proftpd, and pure-ftpd.

[066] - strongSwan 4.2.5
  by Andreas Steffen (http://freshmeat.net/users/asteffen/)
  Mon, Jul 28th 2008 04:18

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: strongSwan is a complete IPsec and IKEv1 implementation for Linux
2.4 and 2.6 kernels. It also fully supports the new IKEv2 protocol with
Linux 2.6 kernels. It interoperates in both IKEv1 and IKEv2 mode with most
other IPsec-based VPN products. The focus of the strongSwan project is on
strong authentication mechanisms using X.509 public key certificates and
optional secure storage of private keys on smartcards through a
standardized PKCS#11 interface. A unique feature is the use of X.509
attribute certificates to implement advanced access control schemes based
on group memberships.

Changes: The performance of the SQL-based virtual IP address pool has been
improved. There is consistent logging of IKE SAs on the audit level. There
are a couple of minor bugfixes.

[067] - transtoba2 0.20
  by Leander Seige (http://freshmeat.net/users/maxleo/)
  Mon, Jul 28th 2008 15:48

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: transtoba2 facilitates the transliteration or transcription of a
word or text from the Roman script into the Toba Batak script.
Transliterating from the Roman into the Batak script is not an easy
undertaking, as the Batak script has a number of peculiarities that
complicates the process of transliteration. This program uses a set of
algorithms which enables the user to effortlessly transliterate from the
Roman to the Toba Batak script.

Changes: A simple caching mechanism was added in order to speed up the
transliteration of longer text and to improve the response time while
typing in. The progress bar was beautified once again.

[069] - Urpkg 1.6
  by Sebastien Vasey (http://freshmeat.net/users/svasey/)
  Mon, Jul 28th 2008 00:01

System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: Urpkg is software to install programs in a safe and undoable way.
It is able to see what files any given installation command creates, and
list and remove them. You are able to restrict the installation command so
that it only writes where you allow it to, and does not overwrite files
from other packages. Urpkg is especially useful if you want to install
programs from source, or create binary packages in an automated way. Under
the hood, urpkg creates a user for each package it has to install, which
prevents the installation command from run with root privileges. It can be
seen as a "command tracer" that remembers what files a command created and
prevents it from doing forbidden things. It is written in C but relies on
some external commands, like GNU Find.

Changes: This release works on Slackware systems. A larger package name
length is now possible. Several other bugs were fixed.
