[011] - Firewall Builder 3.0.0 rev 452 (Beta)
by Vadim Kurland (http://freshmeat.net/users/vkurland/)
Tue, Aug 5th 2008 20:30
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Firewall Builder consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for
various firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects
and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. The GUI
and policy compilers are completely independent, which provides for a
consistent abstract model and the same GUI for different firewall
platforms. It currently supports iptables, ipfilter, ipfw, OpenBSD pf,
Cisco PIX and FWSM, and Cisco routers access lists.
Changes: This revision comes with built-in help; the first dialogs to get
help panels are the "advanced" settings dialogs for the iptables firewall.
Help panels explain all options and parameters in the corresponding
dialogs. The command line tool fwbedit underwent a complete redesign.
Fwbedit can now add, remove, and modify objects in the .fwb file from the
command line, which means a lot of routine firewall policy modification
operations can be completely scripted. Problems with drag and drop of
objects between different data files have been fixed. Binary RPMs for
Fedora Core 9 are provided.

About: Drupal is a Web content management (WCM) system. It provides a
simple, intuitive interface that allows an individual or a community of
users to easily publish, manage, and organize a wide variety of content on
a Web site without programming skills. Drupal is an extremely powerful
system that rewards the users who climb the fairly steep learning curve.
The JumpBox for Drupal lowers the learning curve a little by giving you a
Drupal installation thats ready to run in just minutes, allowing you to
focus on using Drupal rather than getting it installed. This JumpBox is for
the Drupal 6.x series of releases. A separate JumpBox is also available for
Drupal 5.x.
Changes: The version of the included application has not changed, but the
JumpBox has been updated to fix a vulnerability in PHP.

[021] - libcrtxy 0.0.1
by Bill Kendrick, New Breed Software
(http://freshmeat.net/users/billkendrick/)
Tue, Aug 5th 2008 16:35
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
Software Development :: User Interfaces
About: The CRT X-Y Library (libcrtxy) allows you to write vector-based
video games (like Asteroids, Lunar Lander, and Battlezone from the 1970s
and 80s). The end-user (and/or packager of your software) determines how
lines are rendered, depending on the capabilities of their system. This
choice includes anti-aliasing, alpha blending, blurring, and even the
display size and depth. Fixed-point math is used, and sine and cosine
trigonometric functions (using look-up tables) are provided. The library is
based on libSDL and uses SDL as the video backend.
Changes: Options are supported via configuration files, command-line
switches, and environment variables. SDL is used to draw both anti-aliased
and non-anti-aliased lines. Alpha-blending is supported. SDL also provides
"fast" bitmap scaling. Background bitmaps are supported, with scaling and
positioning options. Test applications include drawlines and rockdodge. API
documentation was started but is incomplete.

Security
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Monitoring
About: The Prelude Library (libprelude) is the glue that binds all aspects
of Prelude together. Prelude is a hybrid Intrusion Detection framework
implementing an open communication layer for use by any security
application. libprelude is a library that enables Prelude components to
communicate with the Prelude concentrator. It also makes it easy for third
party software to be made 'Prelude Aware' (able to communicate with Prelude
components). It provides common, useful features used by every sensor.
Changes: EasyBindings have been included. EasyBindings provide simple C++,
Python, Perl, Ruby, and Lua bindings for using libprelude. A C API helper
was added. A 0.9.18 regression (an alert created with empty CreateTime) was
fixed. Reference counting was implemented for the idmef-criteria and
prelude-connection API. Automatic casting is done when setting an IDMEF
Value to a field that is of different type; until now, if a user tried to
set a path of a specific type with an idmef_value_t object containing
another type, idmef_path_set() would return an error. Various bugs were

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: LimeSurvey (formerly PHPSurveyor) is a Web application that
interacts with MySQL, MSSQL, or Postgres to develop surveys, publish
surveys, and collect responses to surveys. Once a survey has been created,
data can be inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen
which presents each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data
entry screen. It includes the capacity to generate individualized "tokens",
so that invitations can be issued to participants. It also has the capacity
to set conditions on whether questions will display (branching), numerous
question types, and a basic statistics function.
Changes: A new Arabic translation was added. The Norwegian Nynorsk,
French, Bulgarion, Albanian, Greek, and Italian translations were updated.
Several fixes for stylesheets were applied. Problems with editing users and
template rights using MSSQL server were fixed. Problems with SMTP and SSL
were fixed. Markup for mandatory errors in Sherpa template was improved.

Tue, Aug 5th 2008 16:26
About: numactl implements simple NUMA policy support. A NUMA policy allows
you to tune programs by controlling the placement of memory in NUMA (Non
Uniform Memory Access) systems. The numactl program runs other programs
with a specific NUMA policy, and the libnuma shared library ("NUMA API")
can be used to set NUMA policy in applications. Libnuma is the preferred
interface to the Linux kernel NUMA policy system calls. The package also
has various tools, like numastat to decode the kernel NUMA statistics.
Changes: numa_exit_on_warn was added. copy_bitmask_to_bitmask() was added
to numa.h. versions.ldscript was added to libnuma.so dependencies.
"numa_all_cpus" was added from numa.h. Symlinks were added for the manpages
of all new functions. No cpuset fallback in libnuma.c, line reading in
proc, numaif.h and numaint.h, Makefile and permissions, and static internal
libnuma functions were fixed. non-"numa_" functions were removed from
numacompat1.h and numa.h. Various numademo improvements were made.
VERSION1_COMPATIBILITY was changed to NUMA_VERSION1_COMPATIBILITY.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: PeerStream Audio Video Streaming server is a lightweight, scalable
and multi-purpose streaming server for broadcasting nearly every known
audio and video format. It supports all major formats and can be configured
to use other, not directly supported media types. Encoding of live data is
also possible. Streaming via unicast, multicast, podcast, UPnP shares and
bandwidth-saving via a peer-to-peer-network is supported.
Changes: The software has been completely reworked and optimized for speed
and a smaller memory footprint, and the stability has increased. The remote
terminal has been replaced by a Web interface. Due to its optimized size,
it scales much better now and can be used in any configuration from an
embedded device to a high-load server farm.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHPLiveX is a lightweight PHP-JavaScript class library that helps
you integrate AJAX into your PHP applications. Without loading a page
again, you may call your PHP functions in the same page, submit your form
to an URL, and send a request to another page with passing of any type of
data.
Changes: The ExternalJS property was removed. Instead, the Run method
indicates whether the js class file is included. New event handlers were
added, including onLoading and onInteraction. New headers and params
options were added. A bug that occurred when submitting some form values
(radio, checkbox, etc.) was fixed. The argument order was changed in the
SubmitForm method. A bug that occurred when using non-Unicode charset
encodings (e.g. iso-xxxx-x) was fixed.

[034] - phpLogCon 2.5.3 (Development)
by deltaray (http://freshmeat.net/users/deltaray/)
Tue, Aug 5th 2008 16:22
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: phpLogCon is a Web front-end for syslog and other network event
data. It provides easy browsing and some basic analysis. Data are taken
from databases or plain syslog text files, so phpLogCon does not require
changes to an existing logging infrastructure. Depending on the log data
present, it can process syslog messages, Windows event log entries, and
some more exotic things. Its troubleshooting support enables users to
quickly find solutions to problems seen in the log data.
Changes: Support for exporting the current visible events into an XML or
CSV file was added. Filter Engine was extended to support full and partial
text searches on string fields. The submenu buttons also now use the full
text search by default, which performs much better on database logstream
sources. A new menu entry on each value on each field in the main EventView
gives you the option to search for this field only or to extend an existing
filterset.

[040] - TclDtrace 0.2
by lrem (http://freshmeat.net/users/lrem/)
Tue, Aug 5th 2008 12:49
Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Tcl Extensions
About: TclDtrace is a binding of libdtrace to the Tcl programming
language. DTrace is a system profiling suite created by Sun Microsystems.
It allows the user to profile a program without modifying its text, or even
without the need to distract it if it is running. It consists of a set of
library hooks called "providers", a set of tools, a C API (libdtrace), and
its own specially crafted scripting language called D. A Tcl binding to
libdtrace will allow users to run D scripts and process their results
directly from Tcl.
Changes: This initial release has complete support for simple DTrace
probes. It's well tested and probably bugfree, but still lacks some
functionality - most importantly aggregations.

[042] - TestDisk 6.10
by GRENIER Christophe (http://freshmeat.net/users/grenierchristophe/)
Tue, Aug 5th 2008 18:09
System :: Recovery Tools
Utilities
About: TestDisk is a tool to check and undelete partitions. It works with
the following partitions: FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, Linux, Linux swap (version 1
and 2), NTFS (Windows NT/W2K/2003), BeFS (BeOS), UFS (BSD), JFS, XFS, and
Netware.
Changes: This release can undelete files and directories for FAT
filesystems, undelete files for ext2 filesystems, and copy files from
ext2/ext3 partitions. PhotoRec can load and save FileOpts settings to
remember which file types to recover. For JPEG files, it extracts the
time/date from the EXIF header and sets the file time. It's now easier to
sort the recovered JPEG. PhotoRec can now identify and recover 38
additional file formats.

System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: UCARP allows a pair of hosts to share common virtual IP addresses
in order to provide automatic failover. It is a portable userland
implementation of the secure and patent- free Common Address Redundancy
Protocol (CARP, OpenBSD's alternative to VRRP). Strong points of the CARP
protocol include its very low overhead, cryptographically signed messages,
interoperability between different operating systems and no need for any
dedicated extra network link between redundant hosts.
Changes: Breakage introduced with version 1.4 should finally be fixed.
Selection of the master has been improved. An option has been added to
bypass network cable plugin detection for NICs that don't have that
feature.
