[001] - AbsVolume 2.0
  by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
  Mon, Aug 18th 2008 20:36

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: AbsVolume is a desktop applet to change the system's sound volume
quickly. A button to open the mixer is provided. Volume change does not
persist after login or reboot.

Changes: This release adds a button to open the mixer (it looks for qamix,
then alsamixer, then mentions that none is available if neither is found).
It also adjusts PCM volume rather than master (changed in version 1.2 by
popular request).

  by X10Gimli (http://freshmeat.net/users/x10gimli/)
  Mon, Aug 18th 2008 15:55

Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Software Development :: Bug Tracking

About: AgileTrack is an agile development planning and iteration tracking
tool. It assists in the creation and life-cycle of iterations, projects,
stories, tasks, and bugs. It is focused on simplicity and practicality. Its
interface is designed to be useful specifically for software developers on
small development teams with rapidly-changing priorities and requirements.
Its primary interface for developers is geared toward availability, speed,
and purpose. It is flexible and minimalistic with respect to the data that
is required for records. It is designed to be compatible with agile
development methodologies, particularly Extreme Programming.

Changes: This release fixes some minor problems due to an upgrade now
requiring Java 1.6. The client application now enforces the version
requirement. The Windows installer now longer bundles a JRE, but triggers a
Java installation if necessary. The Linux Java detection script was updated
to find the correct version. A small character encoding issue that was
affecting calendar views was also fixed.

System :: Networking

About: Astaro Command Center (ACC) is an application for centralized
management of Astaro Security Gateways. With ACC, network administrators
can easily manage and control multiple Astaro devices. The two separated
Web-Based GUIs (WebAdmin and Gateway Manager) enable the split of
ACC-system administration and role-based Gateway monitoring and can be also
implemented in existing Active Directory or eDirectory environments.
provides an effective overview that details the actual health of each
device, swiftly allowing administrators to see which gateways require more
attention or immediate action (by reason of e.g. threat level, license, or
CPU/memory/disk usage). Over the one-click WebAdmin SSO to each connected
gateway, it is possible to react instantly if necessary.

Changes: This Up2Date includes numerous enhancements to usability and
navigational aspects, history and auditing capability for unscheduled
actions, additional tooltip information for Availability and Resource
views, and earlier warnings and threat signaling if thresholds are exceeded

[014] - Dapper Dataflow Engine 0.92
  by Roy Liu (http://freshmeat.net/users/royliu/)
  Mon, Aug 18th 2008 04:13

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: Dapper, or "Distributed and Parallel Program Execution Runtime", is
a tool for taming the complexities of developing for large-scale cloud and
grid computing, enabling the user to create distributed computations from
the essentials: the code that will execute, along with a dataflow graph
description. It supports rich execution semantics, carefree deployment, a
robust control protocol, modification of the dataflow graph at runtime, and
an intuitive user interface.

Changes: On the fly generation and aliasing of dataflow graph edges are
now possible. The API has been simplified, and redundant interfaces have
been done away with; at the same time, dataflow graphs are now robust to
tampering from malicious users. The concept of execution domain has been
introduced to control what executes where. The manual is now substantially
complete, and has been updated with a bevy of examples and diagrams. The
SourceForge mailing lists dapper-user and dapper-announce have been
created.

[017] - EmptyCrate Game Engine 1
  by Jason Turner (http://freshmeat.net/users/lefticus/)
  Mon, Aug 18th 2008 16:54

Games/Entertainment

About: EmptyCrate Game Engine allows for the creation of first person 2d
adventure games using a Drupal module. Once the game is written it is
rendered using a Flash 9 application embedded in the Drupal page, making
the adventure game instantly available to virtually anyone with an Internet
enabled device. The engine represents the culmination of several years of
ideas which finally were able to come together with the right combination
of technologies. The realized goal was to make adventure games so
accessible and easy to write that it would be possible to create an
episodic game that is updated several times a week, similar to a Web comic.

Changes: Multiple rooms, characters, items, and simple scripting can exist
in a given game.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors

About: JShot is a screen capture and uploader utility which allows you to
capture a part of your screen and publish it in one step. It lets you
upload your screenshot to an FTP server or image hosting server, or send it
to an Instant Messaging partner. It copies the link of your screenshot to
the clipboard, so you can publish your shot in one step. It is possible to
extend the functionality of JShot by installing plugins. JShot also has
drawing and image editing functionalities. It supports drawing shapes on
the picture, cropping, rotating, text annotation, etc.

Changes: A multiple paste bug was fixed. A hang-up when using "merge all"
with region selection was fixed. A problem with undoing a crop was fixed.
Better resizing methods were added. Memory usage of the image preview and
region upload was reduced. Unused properties were removed from "ImageRect".
The system clipboard is supported, but this may not work with all
applications on Linux. Resizing supports undo and redo. An incorrect
location for the thumbnail panel popup was fixed.

[029] - Lbunzip2 0.02
  by lacos (http://freshmeat.net/users/lacos/)
  Mon, Aug 18th 2008 06:53

System :: Archiving :: Compression

About: Lbunzip2 is a multi-threaded bunzip2 filter (a parallel bzip2
decompressor) that doesn't depend on the lseek() system call and so isn't
restricted to regular files. Its only command line argument is the number
of decompressor threads. It should be able to decompress valid bzip2
streams on the fly, i.e. statistically anything that bunzip2 itself can
decompress. Bzip2 streams created with a different block size than 900k
seem to be supported, too. On an Athlon-64 X2 6000+, lbunzip2 was 42%
faster (based on wall clock time) than standard bunzip2.

Changes: Version 0.01 didn't throttle the decompressor threads when the
multiplexer thread was blocked on the write() system call, thus memory
consumption could grow indefinitely. This is fixed now. Some performance
testing was done on five multicore machines (Alpha, Athlon, Itanium, Sparc,
and Xeon). The README file was rewritten.

re-encoding video around cutpoints. Audio is cut from a separate MP2 file
at positions that keep A/V sync as good as possible (maximum sync
difference is around 10-15 milliseconds compared to the source).

Changes: Fileparts was fixed to support large files. A contrib interface

[037] - NTP 4.2.4p5 (Stable)
  by Steve Kostecke (http://freshmeat.net/users/kostecke/)
  Mon, Aug 18th 2008 04:11

About: The Network Time Protocol (NTP) is used to synchronize the time of
a computer client or server to another server or reference time source,
such as a radio or satellite receiver or modem. It provides client
accuracies typically within a millisecond on LANs and up to a few tens of
milliseconds on WANs relative to a primary server synchronized to
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) via a Global Positioning Service (GPS)
receiver, for example.

Changes: This release fixes a number of Windows-specific ntpd bugs and
platform-independent ntpdate bugs. A logging bugfix has been applied to the
ONCORE driver. The "dynamic" keyword is now obsolete and deferred binding
to local interfaces is the new default. The minimum time restriction for
the interface update interval has been dropped. A number of minor build
system and documentation fixes are included. This is a recommended upgrade

  by Michael Meckelein (http://freshmeat.net/users/mimeck/)
  Mon, Aug 18th 2008 16:52

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among others, it
offers support for on-demand disk buffering, reliable syslog over TCP, SSL,
TLS, and RELP, writing to databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and many
more), email alerting, fully configurable output formats (including
high-precision timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, on-the-wire message compression, and the ability to convert text
files to syslog. It is a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and able to
work with the same configuration file syntax.

Changes: This release fixes a problem that causes imfile to segfault on
termination, disables flow control in imuxsock (which could have lead to
system hang conditions), and corrects a misspelled configuration directive.
There is a small enhancement that now allows using MySQL custom server

[049] - Super CSV 1.50
  by Dr. Kasper Graversen (http://freshmeat.net/users/kbilsted/)
  Mon, Aug 18th 2008 20:30

About: Super CSV is a CSV package for the Java 5+ platform. It operates on
streams rather than file names, so you can read and write files of any
encoding from any kind of source. It operates on maps and POJO beans, so
you don't have to convert to or from String arrays. It has a powerful
notion of a cellprocessor which enables you to regard columns in your CSV
files as real types such as numbers and dates rather than as strings.
Additionally, the processors can also act as a constraint mechanism,
enabling you to naturally specify constraints on your data.

Changes: This release adds 7 cell processors and deprecates one. Unique
has been renamed to UniqueHashCode. BeanReader and BeanWriter now support
method overloading of get/set methods. Cell processors only throw
SuperCSVException. The following exceptions have been added:
ClassCastInputCSVException and NullInputException. There is better handling
of lines without the expected number of columns. The raised exception is
now associated with a valid CSVContext object. There are better error
messages, and more context information is in the exception and available to
the programmer.

can boot whichever OS you decide to put on the filesystem image that is
used as a harddrive. It will run DOS 6.22, Win 3.1, Win9x,
WinNT/2000/XP/2003, Linux, Novell, and more. The only main requirement is a
400 MHz or better machine, along with lots of RAM (128M minimum, 256M
recommended).

Changes: Several new operating systems are officially or experimentally
supported as guests or hosts. ACE authoring features are now fully
integrated with Workstation. VMs can now be started in streaming mode
(before completion of download). Installation is now done with a bundle
providing a wizard GUI and an alternative command line mode. The new "Easy
Install" option allows unattended installation of several Windows OSs and
Linux distributions. A graphical virtual network editor was implemented for
Linux hosts. Several virtual hardware enhancements were made. Many other
improvements were made.

About: Wing IDE is a development environment for Python. It provides
powerful editing, code intelligence, testing, debugging, and search
capabilities that reduce development and debugging time, cut down on coding
errors, and make it easier to understand and navigate Python code.

Changes: This release fixes breakpoints and exception ignores in zip
files, allows suppressing debugger errors when sys.settrace() is called,
fixes several problems with the pylint integration, highlights Python
builtin names in the editor, optimizes typing when Search in Files is
shown, and fixes about 20 other bugs.

System :: Systems Administration

About: YALA is a Web-based LDAP administration GUI. The idea is to
simplify the directory administration with a graphical interface and neat
features, while remaining a general purpose program (unlike some LDAP
browsers written specifically for managing users on the system).

Changes: Many changes; mostly a lot of new JavaScript/AJAX for a smoother
user experience.
