Information Management

About: AgileWiki is meant to create software systems which are fluid,
easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever changing
requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics programming
paradigm, and semantic inferencing.

Changes: The element model now supports the development of fully decoupled
Swing components. Layout can now be separated from behavior, making for a
much more fluid architecture.

Internet :: Proxy Servers
System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: Apt-Cacher NG is a caching HTTP download proxy for software
packages, primarily for Debian/Ubuntu clients. It's partially based on
concepts of Apt-Cacher but is rewritten with a main focus on performance
and low resource usage.

Changes: The downloader code has been improved and contains fixes for
various symptoms resulting in "APT hanging". Cache cleanup was improved to
act more precisely, and to optionally do data corruption checks.

[003] - ATK Framework 6.2.0
  by Peter Verhage (http://freshmeat.net/users/peterverhage/)
  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 10:30

Database :: API
Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management

About: The ATK Framework is a PHP business framework. It is targeted at
developers who wish to focus on business logic instead of coding HTML. ATK
provides a complete framework that requires only small amounts of code to
get usable applications, while maintaining full flexibility. ATK has a
model driven approach, but is 100% customizable.

Changes: A new caching API has been added, which makes it easy to add
caching functionality to your code. A new component called the atkDataGrid
has been introduced, which replaces the atkRecordList component and offers
an improved API for better integration and AJAX updates. A new (default)
theme, Stillblue, has been added, which extends the Steelblue theme with
frameless support. Several meta node improvements were done, including a
new caching layer which makes meta nodes just as fast as regular nodes and
easier to debug. Hundreds of other changes have been made.

[006] - checksysreport 1.0-3
  by Pierre Amadio (http://freshmeat.net/users/pamadio/)
  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 17:40

About: checksysreport performs some automatic tests against a directory
containing an untarred Red Hat Enterprise Linux sysreport. You will need a
valid Red Hat Network login in order to use it, as it fetches information
from RHN using the RHN API (see https://rhn.redhat.com/rpc/api/). A
graphical tool, yadarh, is also included: it uses the cache generated by
checksysreport to display RPMs in a given channel and lets you browse them
to have a list of errata and new entries in changelogs that come with other
versions of the same package.

Changes: Warnings for known kernel issues are printed. wcs's spool
handling has been enhanced. A wrapper class has been added so that
checksysreport can be generated non-interactively. Yadarh can run when
there is no connection to rhn available. AS2.1 sysreports made on IA-64
were not usable.

[014] - deco file extraction framework 1.5.4
  by P. Hartlich (http://freshmeat.net/users/phartlich/)
  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 22:48

System :: Archiving

About: deco is a command-line program that, together with the deco-archive
package, allows you to extract dozens of popular archive file formats. It
has a consistent interface ("deco 1.tar.bz2 2.rar 3.zip 4.flac 5.deb") and
consistent behavior (never deleting archives after extraction and
extracting relative to the current working directory, just verbosely
enough, all unless explicitly requested otherwise). It creates an
extraction directory if there is more than one file or directory at the
archive top level, and it is able to fix strange permissions.

Changes: Multi-part archives residing in the / or // directory are
extracted correctly now.

[017] - Enterprise Password Safe 1.58
  by Al Sutton (http://freshmeat.net/users/alsutton/)
  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 17:37

Security

About: The Enterprise Password Safe is designed to solve the problem of
password management, protection, and access auditing in multi-user,
multi-system environments. The Enterprise Password Safe secures data using
a multi-layered combination of the RSA, AES, and PKCS5-3 encryption

  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 22:46

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Office/Business
Office/Business :: Financial :: Spreadsheet

About: The GNOME Structured File Library is a utility library for reading
and writing structured file formats. Support for MS OLE2 streams is
complete, as is zip import. There is also support for document metadata and
some initial work on decompressing VBA streams in OLE files for future
conversion to other languages. This library replaces libole2 and is used in
gnumeric, mrproject, abiword, libwv2, koffice. It is also part of the AAF
format.

Changes: Revitalized gio support. MS OOX support in gsf-vba-dump. Extended
utility wrappers for GsfInfile. More forgiving of corrupt ole2. Additional
MS OpenPkg support to facilitate pivots. gtk-doc improvements. The VBA
extractor is more accessible. Extensions for the XML parser to allow
modularization. g_base64_ routines are used from glib when available. When
gio is available, gnomevfs is not linked. A self-check has been added for
the benefit of __arm__.

  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 17:56

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Systems Administration

About: gnoMint is a tool for easily creating and managing certification
authorities. It provides fancy visualization of all the pieces of
information that pertain to a CA, such as x509 certificates, CSRs, and
CRLs. gnoMint is currently capable of managing a CA that emits certificates
that are able to authenticate people or machines in VPNs (IPSec or other
protocols), secure HTTP communications with SSL/TLS, authenticate and
cipher HTTP communications through Web-client certificates, and sign or
crypt email messages.

Changes: This version adds some minor, but interesting, features. General
view preferences are now saved through the conf system. Newly created

[023] - GNU Virtual Private Ethernet 2.2
  by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 09:54

Communications
Internet
System

About: GNU VPE creates a virtual ethernet by creating host-to-host tunnels
between multiple endpoints. Unlike other virtual private "network"
solutions which merely create a single tunnel, it creates a real network
with multiple endpoints. It is designed to be conceptually simple and
straightforward to setup (assuming prior IP routing knowledge) without
sacrificing flexibility. It is designed to sit on the gateway machines of
company branches to connect them, but it can also be used to tunnel into a
VPN with a variety of protocols (RAW IP, ICMP, UDP, TCP, HTTPS-Proxy, DNS).

Changes: The licensing was changed to GPLv3 with special permission to
distribute binaries linked against openssl. A large number of minor bugs
have been fixed. GVPE now uses libev as its event multiplexer and takes
advantage of epoll, kqueue, and other high performance kernel interfaces.
The on-demand mode has been improved to stop retrying after a while, so
much larger networks with mostly dormant links are now possible. Connection
routing has been improved and documented, which allows more network
configurations, including core network/satellite-style topologies.

[025] - gpgdir 1.9.2
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 12:44

Security :: Cryptography

About: gpgdir is a Perl script that uses the CPAN GnuPG module to encrypt
and decrypt directories using a GPG key specified in ~/.gpgdirrc. It
supports recursively descending through a directory in order to make sure
it encrypts or decrypts every file in a directory and all of its
subdirectories. All file mtime and atime values are preserved across
encryption and decryption operations. In addition, gpgdir is careful not to
encrypt hidden files and directories.

Changes: The new "--sign" and "--verify" modes were added to allow all
files in the specified directory to be signed or verified instead of
encrypted or decrypted. All GnuPG signatures are created as detached .asc
files, and the original files are not removed in --sign mode. In --verify
mode, if any file does not match the expected .asc signature, then a
warning is generated. The code was updated to use the status output from
GnuPG::Interface to detect a bad passphrase and whether a file is encrypted
with the expected GnuPG key. Perl module dependencies were moved into the
deps/ directory.

[035] - Lbzip2 0.04
  by lacos (http://freshmeat.net/users/lacos/)
  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 20:27

System :: Archiving :: Compression

About: Lbzip2 is a Pthreads-based parallel bzip2/bunzip2
(compressor/decompressor) filter, passable to GNU tar with the
--use-compress-program option. It isn't restricted to regular files on
input, nor output. Successful splitting for decompression isn't guaranteed,
just very likely (failure is detected). Splitting for compression and
compression itself occur with fixed 900k block size. On an Athlon-64 X2
6000+, "lbzip2 -d" (originally lbunzip2) was 42% faster (based on wall
clock time) than standard bunzip2. Lbzip2 strives to be portable by
requiring UNIX 98 APIs only, beside an unmodified libbz2.

Changes: Decompression was extracted from the split-work-multiplex
skeleton into a separate module. Compression was added. The project has
been renamed to lbzip2. The reordering of processed sub-blocks happens
entirely in the multiplexer now, changing the time complexity from O(log n)
to O(1) inside the critical section among the workers and the muxer. The
command line conforms to utility syntax guidelines. Lbzip2 queries the
number of online processors if sysconf() supports it. Block serial numbers
have fixed 64-bit width. The README file was updated. The development
status has been advanced to Beta.

About: libalinga is a C++ implementation of a multi-stream codec for the
ALingA (Aligned Linguistic Annotation) format. It makes use of libogg++.
Each ALingA stream holds at least one stream of annotation data, which is
in the LingA format. It may also interleave the signal stream(s) against
which the LingA streams are aligned, or it may simply reference such
streams. It also provides metadata about the underlying manifold for the
signals and the annotations. The metadata is ordered for runtime parsing of
the number and type of signal and LingA codecs to enable decoding of the

[038] - libnetdude 0.11
  by Christian Kreibich (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpk/)
  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 17:43

System :: Networking

About: libnetdude is the packet manipulation backend of the Netdude trace
file editing framework. It allows you to perform trace file manipulations
at a much higher level of abstraction than code written directly for the
pcap interface. It also supports plugins (dynamically loaded libraries)
that can essentially do whatever the programmer desires. When developers
write their packet manipulation code as libnetdude plugins, this instantly
allows other developers to use their tools. It provides data types and APIs
for the most common situations when dealing with libpcap trace files: trace
files of arbitrary size, packets, network protocols, packet iterators, and
packet filters, just to name a few.

Changes: This release adds support for VLAN-tagged packets. It fixes a
small number of bugs in the handling of unused space in packets.

Education
Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
Education :: Testing

About: LON-CAPA (The LearningOnline Network with CAPA) is a learning
content and course management system. It offers an underlying shared
content pool from which instructors across departmental and institutional
boundaries can assemble granular learning content for their courses. It has
strong assessment capabilities, both formative (homework and in-class using
wireless PDAs) and summative (online and bubblesheet exams), with a
one-source multiple-target strategy for the content. It offers students
portfolio space in which they can stage materials for submission to
projects, and provides a number of tools for synchronous and asynchronous
student-student and student-faculty communication. LON-CAPA scales well
with number of students, as load-balancing is possible across the whole
network of servers at participating institutions.

Changes: Course coordinators see recent enrollment changes on the "What's
New" screen. When cloning a course, they can shift all dates and times at
once to adjust to a new semester or year. Finally, they can switch roles
on-the-fly to test their courses from the perspective of students,
instructors, and teaching assistants. The DragMath editor was incorporated
into algebraic and formula response problems. Students can now self-enroll
into designated courses, and the process can be coupled with other
institutional authentication and authorization systems.

  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 20:46

Information Management
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation

About: Slideshow is an application for showing text and images in a loop
on monitors and projectors. It is not meant for situations where
interactive control is required, but for when the content is continuously
looping for a long time. The content is updated through a Web GUI. The
application is split into two packages: the backend and frontend.
Currently, the frontend is very GNU/Linux specific and will not run on any
other platform. It is, however, meant to be as platform independent as
possible, as long as it handles OpenGL.

Changes: This is a somewhat stable release. It adds support for slide bins

[065] - sqlmap 0.6
  by inquis (http://freshmeat.net/users/inquis/)
  Mon, Sep 1st 2008 17:36

Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Security

About: sqlmap is an automatic SQL injection tool developed in Python. Its
goal is to detect and take advantage of SQL injection vulnerabilities in
Web applications. Once it detects one or more SQL injections on the target
host, the user can choose from a variety of options to perform an extensive
back-end database management system fingerprint, retrieve DBMS session user
and database, enumerate users, password hashes, privileges, and databases,
dump entire or user-specific DBMS tables/columns, run his own SQL SELECT
statement, read specific files on the filesystem, and much more.

Changes: This release adds multi-threading support to set the maximum
number of concurrent HTTP requests. It implements SQL shell (--sql-shell)
functionality, and fixes SQL query (--sql-query, previously called -e) to
be able to run any SELECT statement and get its output in both inband and
blind SQL injection attacks. An option (--privileges) to retrieve DBMS user
privileges has been added. It also notifies whether the user is a DBMS
administrator. Support (-c) has been added to read options from a
configuration file. An example of a valid INI file is sqlmap.conf. Support
(--save) has been added to save command line options in a configuration
file.
