[001] - Adventure-(PHP-)Framework 1.7-RC2 (PHP5)
by Christian Achatz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ChristianAchatz/)
Sun, Sep 14th 2008 04:32
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: The Adventure-(PHP-)Framework is a Web development framework that
helps you design and create object oriented and reusable PHP Web
applications. It features a unique DOM model, the generic page controller
component, and a set of shipped XML tag libraries to build GUIs based on
XML/HTML templates. The framework core contains components like front
controller, global benchmark concept, global error handling, and a
configuration management class. It includes complete modules like a
guestbook, a comment function, and a generic pager.
Changes: This release candidate includes major enhancements to the dynamic
form generation feature. The CAPTCHA module contains a taglib that can be
included in forms to prevent automated posting. The first beta version of
the genericormapper module is available, which lets you easily save, load,
and manipulate objects in a relational database. Beside several bugfixes,
the documentation was updated and a quicknavi was added to gain clarity.

[009] - equivs2 3.0
by Dan Stromberg (http://freshmeat.net/users/strombrg/)
Sun, Sep 14th 2008 23:21
About: equivs2 can relatively (or very, depending on options and input
size) quickly divide a series of files into equivalence classes. It's
suitable for use with a very large number of files and/or very large files.
It can perform its task strictly in terms of cryptographic digests, or use
cryptographic digests backed up at the end with full byte-for-byte
comparisons. It also uses some heuristics like comparing the beginnings of
files and the device number and inode number and file sizes. Further, it
knows to only read in the parts that it needs "so far", to avoid a huge
inhale at the beginning of the run, instead trying an initial method and
falling back to subsequent methods as needed.
Changes: In addition to the previous Python and Perl versions, there's now
a Java version that can be compiled with OpenJDK and gcj. Compiling with
the Sun JDK should be trivial.

[012] - Free-SA 1.4.5
by Sapon Oleg (http://freshmeat.net/users/xsaper/)
Sun, Sep 14th 2008 04:23
Internet :: Log Analysis
About: Free-SA is tool for statistical analysis of daemons' log files,
similar to SARG. Its main advantages over SARG are much better speed
(7x-20x), more support for reports, and W3C compliance of generated
HTML/CSS reports. It can be used to help control traffic usage, to control
Internet access security policies, to investigate security incidents, to
evaluate server efficiency, and to detect troubles with configuration.
Changes: Due to the different cases of usernames in log files, all
usernames are now converted to lower case, which will also simplify
filtering and improve porting to Cygwin. The sort order in the user's
fullurl report is correct now. A new option for placing every site into a
separate file in a user's fullurl report has been implemented. If the month
and year of the start and end of the period are the same, then user
graphics reports are built using a month scale, not year. Earlier, there
was simply a check whether the period was not longer than 30 days, but
there are months with 31 days. Minor code optimizations have been
implemented.

[013] - FreedroidRPG 0.11
by Arthur Huillet (http://freshmeat.net/users/ahuillet/)
Sun, Sep 14th 2008 15:29
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: FreedroidRPG is an isometric RPG game inspired by Diablo and
Fallout. There is a war, and we are losing it. No one really knows why the
bots started killing us. Most don't even want to know. The human race is
reduced to little more than a few isolated groups of people trying to
survive. Somewhere in a place known as Temple Wood, a hero is about to wake
up from a long sleep...
Changes: This first version in the 0.11 series brings a lot of
improvements in all areas. There is more content (items, levels, music
tracks), a faster and more reliable game engine, improved gameplay balance,
and a more intuitive level editor.

[018] - HAproxy 1.3.15.4 (Development)
by Willy Tarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
Sun, Sep 14th 2008 19:16
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking
About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP and HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, content-based switching,
advanced traffic regulation with surge protection, automatic failover,
run-time regex-based header control, Web-based reporting, advanced logging
to help trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few
other features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 20,000 hits per
second and surpasses GigaEthernet on modern hardware, even with tens of
thousands of simultaneous connections.
Changes: The connections regulation mechanism could send more connections
than the allowed limit to a server when this server had just rejected a
connection attempt; for servers with very low connection limits such as
mongrel, this could easily trigger timeouts. The slowstart mechanism could
return a limit of zero connections for very low maxconn values, causing
servers to re-enter the farm a bit late.

by Peter Falkenberg Brown (http://freshmeat.net/users/peterbrown/)
Sun, Sep 14th 2008 19:20
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: MySQL Backup is a Perl script that uses mysqlshow to grab the
database names and "show tables" to grab the table names for a user's
account, and then uses mysqldump to save the data in a subdirectory named
in the script. It then tars and gzips the files, using the date and time
for the file name. It can be run from cron on a daily basis. It removes old
files and has an option to email the gzip file to an admin, and/or FTP the
file to a remote server. It also has options to use "select data into
outfile" or a regular "select" for users who can't use mysqldump. It
supports LARGE sets of databases and tables.
Changes: Code to correctly delete remote FTP files by forcing a check on
the remote directory name and setup variable. Code to remove '.' and '..'

the addition of a new input or output format requires only the addition of
a reader or writer module.
Changes: This release adds four new output formats: OpenDocument XML, GNU
Texinfo, ODT, and MediaWiki markup. Pandoc's markdown now supports a new
delimited (or "fenced") code block syntax, with optional syntax
highlighting. The build system has been cleaned up, and the API now
provides handy generic functions for querying and transforming documents.
Support for LaTeX math in Markdown documents has been improved.

Software Development :: Code Generators
About: Post Scriptum is a programming language for preparing PostScript
documents and programs. The language is procedural, and uses classical
control structures (functions, loops, and conditional statements) and
commonly known data types (numbers, arrays, strings, and dictionaries). Its
syntax is simple, clear, and easy to learn. The compiler translates
programs written in Post Scriptum directly to a PostScript file, which can
be than executed by a PostScript interpreter (such as Ghostscript),
printed, or used as a procset, driver, or library.
Changes: The program is fully functional. Distribution files contain
documentation and examples.

by Jari Aalto (http://freshmeat.net/users/jaalto/)
Sun, Sep 14th 2008 19:10
System :: Filesystems
About: Truecrypt Installer for Debian helps to get Truecrypt running with
a minimum of effort under Debian-based Linux systems (Debian and Ubuntu are
officially supported). Truecrypt is Open Source disk encryption software
which uses a concept of containers to store encrypted data. The containers
(or volumes) can be read transparently under Linux and Windows. The
installer creates installable *.deb packages from the Truecrypt sources,
and those debs can be used in turn to activate Truecrypt.
Changes: Kernel 2.6.26 support. The Module.symvers is now properly linked
with the *.ko module. This should fix the modprobe error "Invalid module
format" and dmesg "truecrypt: no symbol version for struct_module".

[043] - UrJTAG 0.9
by Kolja Waschk (http://freshmeat.net/users/kawk/)
Sun, Sep 14th 2008 14:52
Communications
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Electronic Design Automation (EDA)
About: UrJTAG aims to create an enhanced, modern tool for communicating
over JTAG with flash chips, CPUs, and many more. It takes on the well
proven openwince jtag tools code. Future plans include conversion of the
code base into a library that can be used with other applications. A
flexible remote communication protocol that can be used over almost any
type of serial link (including TCP/IP) is currently being defined.
Changes: The BSDL parser has been rewritten with added support for IEEE
1532 extensions. Internally, many global variables were removed, which is a
major improvement for everyone who wants to use UrJTAG as a library. The
low level communication with USB cables has been properly separated from
that with parport cables into new "usbconn" and "parport" link drivers,
making it easier to support new USB cables with their custom protocols
natively. Many annoyances and bugs have been fixed.
