[001] - AntTweakBar 1.12
by philippe_ (http://freshmeat.net/users/philippe_/)
Sun, Oct 5th 2008 19:17
Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development
About: AntTweakBar is a small and easy-to-use C/C++ library that allows
programmers to quickly add a light and intuitive GUI into OpenGL or DirectX
based graphic programs to interactively tweak them. Program variables can
be linked to a graphical control that allows users to modify them.
Programmers are not required to design the graphical interface by providing
coordinates or by using a visual UI editor. Controls are automatically
organized following an optional given hierarchy.
Changes: This release supports quaternion and direction variables allowing
for the interactive tweaking of rotations and 3D vectors, along with
several other improvements.

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: bftpd is a very configurable Linux FTP server which can do chroot
without special configuration or directory preparation. It will work
out-of-the-box with almost no configuration required, and works on all Unix
variants tested. Most FTP commands are supported, and user authentication
is done via passwd/shadow or PAM. tar/gzip on-the-fly is supported.
Changes: This release brings the stable branch up to date with all
bugfixes and improvements in the development tree.

Software Development :: Embedded Systems
About: crosstool-NG is a versatile toolchain generator, aiming at being
highly configurable. It supports multiple target architectures, different
components (glibc/uClibc...) and versions. crosstool-NG also features
debugging utilities (DUMA, strace...) and generation tools (sstrip...).
Changes: The DUMA build logs are passed only once through the logger. The
architecture config file is now correctly re-generated. The unavailable
config target xconfig is no longer advertised. The glibc linker scripts are
no longer mangled to remove absolute paths.

[005] - DBsight 2.0
by Chris (http://freshmeat.net/users/chrislusf/)
Sun, Oct 5th 2008 23:31
Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for instant scalable full-text
search on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It
features a built-in database crawler following user-defined SQL,
incremental indexing, user-controllable result ranking, the ability to
return results with highlights (like Google), and categorized result counts
(like Amazon). It can easily integrate with other languages with
XML/JSON/HTML. There is a UI for all operations, so no Java coding is
necessary. Deleted or updated records in database can be synchronized also.
Changes: A new Scaffolding Engine for more flexible result page rendering
has been added. Developers can create customized re-usable scaffolding. A
Tag cloud scaffold has been added. It is easier to add JDBC libraries. The
performance of SQL retrieval has been greatly enhanced by batching SQL.

Sun, Oct 5th 2008 23:30
System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Filesystems
About: Dev9 is a Linux /dev manager. The idea is to write a 9p2000.u
server that ends up providing the same functionality as a combined devfs
and udev.
Changes: This is the first release of the project. It should theoretically
work, but there are some issues with character devices. Nevertheless,
automounting, socket I/O, parsing /sys, creating device nodes themselves,
and processing rules to create nodes all work as they should.

Software Development
Software Development :: Documentation
About: Doxygen is a cross-platform, JavaDoc-like documentation system for
C++, C, Objective-C, C#, Java, IDL, Python, PHP, VHDL, and Fortran. Doxygen
can be used to generate an on-line class browser (in HTML) and/or an
off-line reference manual (in LaTeX or RTF) from a set of source files.
Doxygen can also be configured to extract the code-structure from
undocumented source files. This includes dependency graphs, class diagrams
and hyperlinked source code. This type of information can be very useful to
quickly find your way in large source distributions.
Changes: This version fixes the problem where doxygen stops with an error
when GENERATE_HTML was set to NO. It also includes a couple of other fixes,
and it is now possible to set the size of the font for dot generated
graphs.

System :: Networking
About: Duat is an I/O library implementing the 9p2000 and 9p2000.u
protocols. It only depends on Curie, which means it may be used when a very
small program or memory footprint is needed.
Changes: This release fixes a number of bugs, cleans up the API a bit, and
introduces an abstract set of operations to manipulate a synthesized
filesystem. The interface for manipulating files is not complete. In
particular, writes to files and reads from anything but a static buffer do
not work just yet.

Sun, Oct 5th 2008 23:21
Database
Information Management :: Records Management
About: JCards is a Java application designed to store and manage data in
any format that the user defines. Instead of having multiple
applications/spreadsheets/databases to manage passwords, tasks, shopping
lists, etc., JCards allows the user to define a database that contains the
fields they want. This is accomplished via an easy to use interface that
requires no understanding of SQL or any other database jargon. JCards was
initially developed for PDAs, but has now branched into another version
that is suitable for the modern desktop environment and includes a number
of extra features.
Changes: Minor usability enhancements and bugfixes.

by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
Sun, Oct 5th 2008 23:28
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
About: Jhead is a command line driven utility for extracting digital
camera settings from the Exif format files used by many digital cameras. It
handles the various confusing ways these can be expressed, and displays
them as F-stop, shutter speed, etc. It is also able to reduce the size of
digital camera JPEGs without loss of information, by deleting integral
thumbnails that digital cameras put into the Exif header. If you need to
add Exif support to a program, this is a simple program to cut and paste
from. Many projects, including PHP, have reused code from this utility.
Changes: More EXIF tags are decoded in '-v' mode. Several potential string
overflows were fixed. A missing deletion of IPTC section on "-purejpg" was
fixed. A GPS altitude decode bug was fixed.

[026] - Pidgin-Paranoia 0.3.0
by Simon Wenner (http://freshmeat.net/users/nowic/)
Sun, Oct 5th 2008 08:23
Communications :: Chat
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Security :: Cryptography
About: Pidgin-paranoia is a plugin for Pidgin (formerly known as Gaim)
that provides information-theoretically secure encrypted conversations
using one-time pads. Because the plugin uses a one-time pad where the
secret key has the same length as the message and the key is only used
once, the encryption is information-theoretically secure. This means that
from the encrypted messages the contents of the messages are not revealed.
In short: If you use truly random numbers to generate the key files, and if
you keep them perfectly secret, one-time pads can not be broken.
Changes: This release focuses on stability and usability improvements.
Session handshake can be expected to work all the time. The user gets live
feedback about the current state during key generation. The consistency of
received messages is checked. In addition, this release provides
performance improvements that allow the software to scale better as the
number of paranoid people in your contact increases. The software is
considered to be in a beta stage and suitable for everyday use.

format that can be read/written by svnadmin, so the data produced by
rsvndump can easily be imported into a new subversion repository.
Changes: This release adds a command line switch to keep dumped revision
numbers in sync with the source repository. Additionally, a bug which could
prevent dumping a single file has been fixed.

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Software Development :: User Interfaces
About: rwdtinker is the core application for a Ruby application framework
using the RubyWebDialogs GUI. It provides a system for developing programs,
and uses a Web-based interface. It allows a developer to combine and create
applets to implement an application. It features built-in bug report
submission, remote control with UDP ports, a test framework, and
context-sensitive help.
Changes: This release has changed PDA handling in rwd.rb. It has added
logging, and a log review screen in the tinker back window. It also changes
applet loading to not depend on version config files.

[032] - Seed7 2008-10-05
by Thomas Mertes (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomas_mertes/)
Sun, Oct 5th 2008 19:21
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements and
operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: The chapter about primitive actions in the manual was improved.
The definition of STD_NULL in the seed7_05.s7i library was improved to
support read and write operations with STD_NULL. The bas7.sd7 (basic
interpreter) example program was improved. The compiler (comp.sd7) was
improved to support local interface declarations and dynamic functions that
refer to constant values. Several improvements were made to support
compilation with the cl compiler from MSVC and the bcc32 compiler. The
function bigCLit() was improved to avoid C code that the cl C compiler
miscompiles to the wrong machine code.

[034] - Simple DocBook Processor 0.51
by Philip Hazel (http://freshmeat.net/users/ph10/)
Sun, Oct 5th 2008 19:07
Text Processing :: Markup :: DocBook
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: SDoP (Simple DocBook Processor) reads a DocBook XML file, processes
it into typeset pages, and outputs the result as PostScript (which can
easily be converted to a PDF). It is "simple" because it supports only a
subset of DocBook, and also because it does not make use of a DTD or
stylesheets or any other heavyweight apparatus. It is a single program.
SDoP is used to format the Exim reference manual.
Changes: A few minor bugs have been fixed. It is possible to specify a
different font for subsection titles.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Spensierato is a simple-to-use Web site CMS. It is designed to
allow in-site editing so that non-technical users can just find the page,
update an element, and save it. It is written in PHP using a MySQL backend
and released under the GPL. Some components use different license
agreements; details are included.
Changes: This release installs on PHP with MySQL. mod_rewrite has been
made optional, so it should work on other Web servers. There are fixes for
skins to work better if Tidy is not installed. There is a major fix, as
'Text Articles' were not been saved in Pre Release 5.

[036] - SUS 3.3
by pdg (http://freshmeat.net/users/metadalek/)
Sun, Oct 5th 2008 08:26
About: SUS is a (setuid root) utility to allow a user to run a command as
another user, typically the super user (root). SUS consults a control file
to determine if the user is allowed to run the specified command as the
specified target user. Very fine grained control is possible over what
commands may be run by considering commands and arguments as references to
UNIX objects, namely users, groups, files, processes, and hosts. Attributes
of the referenced objects are used to match against object class sets
defined in the control file.
Changes: This version adds two new features: the ability to use a hash of
a file as an attribute for comparisons and the ability to extract
atttributes of an existing file, user, or group and substitute them into
the control file at runtime.

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing
About: tuitest is a tool to create and run automated tests of text user
interfaces. It is meant as a complement to the widespread use of unit
tests, and uses concepts known from GUI testing tools with the difference
that it applies them specifically to text- and terminal-based user
interfaces. It consists of a recorder that records the interaction with an
application under tests and generates a Ruby script that replays the same
interaction, optionally with the same timing. Ruby replaying is supported
through a native Ruby module.

[041] - WendzelNNTPd 1.4.0
by Steffen Wendzel (http://freshmeat.net/users/cdpxe/)
Sun, Oct 5th 2008 08:08
Communications :: Usenet News
Internet
System :: Networking
About: The WendzelNNTPd is a tiny, easy to configure NNTP server for Unix,
Linux, and Windows. The server is IPv6-ready, only supports the most
important NNTP commands, is very secure, and uses an SQL backend. It also
comes with a Qt-based GUI.
Changes: WendzelNNTPd now uses its SQL backend only for storing any kind
of meta information, but whole posting bodies are now stored within the
file system, which makes huge postings possible and provides much better
performance since SQLite now only has to handle the rest of the
information. Also, the code was ported to Windows again and includes some
fixes.
