[001] - AcouSTO 1.0 beta
  by HaMLeT (http://freshmeat.net/users/vmarchese/)
  Thu, Oct 9th 2008 20:31

Scientific/Engineering

About: AcouSTO is a linear acoustics solver based on a Boundary Element
Method (BEM) solution of the Kirchhoff-Helmholtz Integral Equation (KHIE).
The code is written in C, and includes an MPI-based preliminary
parallelization scheme. Plan wave scattered by a unit sphere. An (extended)
FORTRAN version of this code has been used for years in the authors'
research group, and has reached a remarkable level of reliability. The
numerical formulation has been well assessed, as the large number of
scientific papers produced throughout the years demonstrates.

management system. It features bookmark friendly URLs, easy search with
browsing with article tags, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.

Changes: This release includes a fix to the akb.sql file.

About: aztsearch is a torrent search plugin for Azureus/Vuze that allows
for quick and easy location of torrent resources across the Web. It uses
existing torrent trackers as the source for this information. Currently,
nine popular torrent trackers/engines are supported, including The Pirate
Bay, Demonoid, Mininova, BTJunkie, IsoHunt, SUMOTorrent, BitTorrentMonster,
Monova, and Fenopy. New torrent trackers can be added easily within the
existing framework.

  by Dan (http://freshmeat.net/users/danleweb/)
  Thu, Oct 9th 2008 18:07

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for the GNOME desktop
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random, Least
Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to set
up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports SNMP,
integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It implements a very fast
in-memory IP-to-location database, allowing powerful location-based server
load-balancing.

Changes: An important bug in target ARP processing has been fixed;
upgrading is recommended. The fix has also been applied to the 1.x branch,
resulting in release 1.932. The Ubuntu JeOS VMware virtual appliance has
been updated accordingly.

(http://freshmeat.net/users/faceless/)
  Thu, Oct 9th 2008 04:29

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Office/Business

About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support, verification for digital signatures and text
extraction. Both variations offer full Unicode support, encryption,
embedded TrueType and Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, and spot and
calibrated color.

Changes: A large internal rewrite of font handling now correctly renders
some edge cases that weren't handled before, and improves font substitution
for CJK fonts. OutputProfile.Feature.MergeResources has been added, which
will attempt to merge duplicate resources such as fonts and images when
concatenating multiple PDF files. IntelligentMail BarCode, the next
generation of USPS routing code, has been added. OpenTypeFonts containing
CFF outlines now have correct sizes returned from
getTextTop/getTextBottom(). XFA-only PDFs can now have their XFA data
updated via Form.setXFADataSets().

About: Bitflu is a BitTorrent client designed to run non-stop as a daemon.
It does not provide a graphical interface, but offers a telnet interface
and can handle multiple torrent downloads.

Changes: This release introduces a new storage plugin. The old storage
engine (FarabDB) can still be used (and will be used if Bitflu finds an old
configuration file), so people who upgrade do not have to worry about
losing any downloads.

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include
IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed
CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW,
TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote
SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD writers.

Changes: cdrecord now includes a workaround for a Lite-ON BluRay firmware
problem. The cdrecord default transfer size has been enhanced to 126 kB. A
CAM patch from FreeBSD has been added. A workaround has been added for
ATARI linker problems with gcvt(). A workaround has been added for POSIX
incompatibilities in POSIX.1-2008. This release explains how to keep GPL
compatibility when publishing mkisofs binaries.

About: GOsa² provides a powerful framework for managing accounts and
systems in LDAP databases. Using GOsa² allows system administrators to
easily manage users and groups, fat and thin clients, applications, phones

provides a single, LDAP-based point of administration for large and small
environments, thus making the administration of users and systems and all
related parameters manageable and easy.
