Database
Documentation
Information Management

About: AgileWiki is an SDK for assembling software systems which are
fluid, easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever
changing requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics
programming paradigm, and semantic inferencing.

Changes: Several com bugs have been fixed. Ready event routing has been
fixed. COM can now be used from within a persistent ark.
ArkRoot.internalProcessor(Exec) can now be used by internal services: it
puts the execution Exec.execute method on par with executing a command. For
now, that just means running under the sync lock and flushing dirty blocks
on completion.

[004] - Atomsphere 2.0.2.1
  by Bill Brown (http://freshmeat.net/users/wbrown338/)
  Mon, Oct 13th 2008 21:12

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: Atomsphere is a Java library that allows you to create and modify
Atom 1.0 feeds. It is also packaged as a servlet-lib for use in Web
applications, and as a custom tag library to display feeds on a Web page.
It comes with an example Web application that demonstrates some uses of the
library. It is written to be tied as closely as possible to the current
Atom specification.

Changes: This minor release fixes a bug in the rendering of the content
element for XHTML content when links appeared with a query string. There is
also better support for rendering images with the taglib sub-project.

[005] - AuthenticRoast 0.2.0
  by Aike Sommer (http://freshmeat.net/users/ajsommer/)
  Mon, Oct 13th 2008 21:07

Security

About: AuthenticRoast allows you to build highly flexible authentication
mechanisms for the Java Web tier. This can be anything from HTTP Basic
authentication to authenticating with openid, facebook, or your company's
Kerberos setup. The authentication modules can be combined at will and even
changed at runtime. This currently works for glassfish and plain Tomcat,
and allows you to use all the features of container-managed security
without being constrained to the simple login methods provided.

Changes: This release adds a Tomcat valve for use in plain Tomcat. It has
some minor API changes.

[006] - Back In Time 0.6
  by Dan (http://freshmeat.net/users/danleweb/)
  Mon, Oct 13th 2008 11:26

System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities

About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for the GNOME desktop
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.

Changes: When the program makes a snapshot, it displays an icon in the
systray area. The background color for group items in the timeline and
places better reflects the system color scheme. During restoration, only
the restore button is grayed (even if everything is blocked).

[007] - BigTinker RubyWebDialogs Application 0.97
  by Gibby (http://freshmeat.net/users/gibsons/)
  Mon, Oct 13th 2008 21:10

Desktop Environment
Utilities

About: bigtinker is overloaded with applets for rwdtinker, the core
application for a Ruby application framework using the RubyWebDialogs GUI.
Rwdtinker provides a system for developing programs, and uses a Web-based
interface. It allows a developer to combine and create applets to implement
an application. It features built-in bug report submission, a test
framework, and context-sensitive help. Bigtinker can run shell commands
under Linux, use a calculator, build scripts of math commands, run Ruby
commands in a browser, show a calendar, use an address book, look up word
definitions, run a Unix fortune program, and read Gutenberg books. It
includes a hello world application to help in building your own.

Changes: This release has updated to rwdtinker version 1.82. It has
switched to po files for translation files, and adds the beginnings of a
Hindi po file, adds more Japanese strings, changes handling of lang change
= in the tinkerwin2variables.cnf file (the [0] setting of $langarray will
be the language chosen). init.rb has been refactored to move routines into
lib/rwdtinker modules. Config files have been condensed from 5 to 3. A
document launch bug has been fixed. $KCODE = 'u' has been added. Help files
have been moved to the rwd_files directory.

[008] - Blitz templates for PHP 0.6.3
  by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
  Mon, Oct 13th 2008 20:58

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Blitz templates is a fast PHP template engine written in C and
compiled as a PHP extension. It started as a php_templates replacement, but
developed into much more. It is based on extensible template controllers
(custom view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates (simple logic in
HTML). Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest template engines for
PHP, even though it's not trivial and makes Web application closer to a
smart MVC-like architecture model with maximal separation of HTML from your
code. It was designed for big high-load Internet projects with a lot of
complex presentation logic.

Changes: Predefined, global, and Boolean variables were fixed in
multi-line IF/UNLESS blocks. A segfault when setting array(NULL) value and
setting anything else afterward has been fixed.

[018] - EmptyCrate Game Engine 3
  by Jason Turner (http://freshmeat.net/users/lefticus/)
  Mon, Oct 13th 2008 20:55

Games/Entertainment

About: EmptyCrate Game Engine allows for the creation of first person 2d
adventure games using a Drupal module. Once the game is written it is
rendered using a Flash 9 application embedded in the Drupal page, making
the adventure game instantly available to virtually anyone with an Internet
enabled device. The engine represents the culmination of several years of
ideas which finally were able to come together with the right combination
of technologies. The realized goal was to make adventure games so
accessible and easy to write that it would be possible to create an
episodic game that is updated several times a week, similar to a Web comic.

Changes: This release fixes minor game-item scripting problems. It adds a
subtitle feature. 7 demo games are now available on the demo site.

[019] - ExactImage 0.6.3
  by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
  Mon, Oct 13th 2008 11:21

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick requires,
and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time the
"display" program takes.

Changes: Dynamic range normalization was reimplemented using the new image
iterator to support all bit-depths as well as increased speed. The
empty-page detection again internally uses the black and white optimization
for more consistent results, and the threshold for black and white images
can now be specified during colorspace conversion via the external SWIG
wrapped API.

by Davi de Castro Reis (http://freshmeat.net/users/davi/)
  Mon, Oct 13th 2008 00:37

Software Development :: Libraries

About: htmlcxx is a simple non-validating CSS1 and HTML parser for C++.
The parsing politics attempt to mimic the behavior of Mozilla Firefox, so
you should expect parse trees similar to those created by Firefox. However,
it does not insert nonexistent stuff in your HTML. Therefore, serializing
the DOM tree gives exactly the same output as the original HTML document.
Another key feature is an STL-like tree navigation API provided by the
tree.hh template library.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: Httpx takes over the front-line position of binding and listening
on the public address and port of your virtual Web hosting server. In this
role, it scans incoming requests looking for the HTTP/1.1 Host: request
header entity. Once the Host: value is found for a given request, it is
routed to a UNIX domain socket in the local file system located through a
database lookup. Over this UNIX domain socket, an inter-process descriptor
pass occurs to a Web server modified slightly to receive TCP socket
descriptors passed over a UNIX domain socket instead of binding, listening
for, and accepting TCP sockets. This allows vhosts to share an IP address
while having private, host-specific, potentially unique httpd contexts.

Changes: A minor bug in the HTTP/1.1 parser fsm has been fixed. This bug
prevented httpx from accepting request headers that were not the Host:
header in version 0.0.3. A workaround has also been added to make httpx
usable on current Linux kernels (this is hopefully not needed for long, as
work has already been done to resolve these issues by the Linux net
developers). Some documentation additions were made, and daemontools
integration stubs were added to the distribution.

About: Kate is a codec for karaoke and text encapsulation for Ogg. Most of
the time, this would be multiplexed with audio/video to carry subtitles,
song lyrics (with or without karaoke data), etc, but it doesn't have to be.
A possible use of a lone Kate stream would be an e-book. Moreover, the
motion feature gives Kate a powerful means to describe arbitrary curves, so
hand drawing of shapes can be achieved. This was originally meant for
karaoke use, but can be used for any purpose. Motions can be attached to
various semantics, like position or color, so scrolling or fading text can
be defined.

Changes: Both hexadecimal and decimal numeric entities are now supported.
katedec can now output LRC files. kateenc now supports variable
timestamping precision in LRC files. More tweaks were made to try to find a
suitable type for kate_int64_t.

About: MicroNova YUZU is an EL-based JSP tag library designed to augment
JSTL and transform JSP into a powerful XML-style "scripting language"
(compatible with both JSP 1.2 and 2.0). Features include: stackable
(nestable beyond tagfile boundaries) tags, nestable/encodable map with
XML/JSON support, "codec" functions, structured param with file
upload/select/radio support, "subroutine" call returning non-string Object,
dynamic embedded EL pattern evaluation for regular text and SQL queries,
HTTP client and response control, an HTML-to-DOM parser, multipart email
and mailbox, dynamic method invocation/iterator/map/resource message map,
and more. All YUZU tags follow a single behavioral pattern (prepare,
import, default, process, assign, export) for ease of learning and
extension.

Changes: Support for Unicode characters was added to JSON encoding. A
reinit is forced in doFinally() when attributes are set dynamically, to
avoid problems on tag reuse. The Format:paging codec was added. Support for
simple CSS style output was added and "__attrList" was made to use CSS
style output for Map values. The __merge property was added to NestedMap

About: pacparser is a library to parse proxy auto-config (PAC) files.
Proxy auto-config files are a vastly used proxy configuration method these

Python module that can be used to make any C or Python program PAC scripts
intelligent. Some very useful targets could be popular Web software like

About: Smb4K is a SMB and CIFS (Windows) share browser for KDE. It uses
the Samba software suite to access the SMB and CIFS shares of the local
network neighborhood. Its purpose is to provide a program that's easy to
use and has as many features as possible.

Changes: The smb4k_sudowriter utility program has been backported. It
directly writes to the /etc/sudoers file, and thus finally fixes the messed
up sudoers file bug. The smb4k_cat and smb4k_mv utility programs are no
longer needed and have been removed. Support has been removed for the
program 'super'. If you used it before, you need to reconfigure Smb4K. The
Smb4KFileIO class has been rewritten to support smb4k_sudowriter. The
"Programs" widget has been removed from the "Super User" configuration
page; it is not needed anymore.

[063] - Trisul 0.4.187
  by Vivek Rajagopalan (http://freshmeat.net/users/vivekrajan/)
  Mon, Oct 13th 2008 21:00

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Trisul meters bandwidth usage, monitors flows, and stores raw
packets for future drilldown analysis. All traffic data is stored in a
SQLITE3 database. It communicates with the outside world via the Trisul
Remote Protocol (TRP) and via a Ruby-on-rails application called Web
Trisul. What sets Trisul apart from other monitoring tools is its
drill-down capabilities for analyzing past events (e.g. "Show me the top
hosts using ICMP at 5AM this morning"). Trisul combined with WebTrisul can
be used as a Web-based network security monitoring platform. Web Trisul
features live SVG charts that allow you to select a time interval and
invoke drill-down analysis using the raw traffic data as the source. You
can also write tools that communicate with Trisul directly via a secure TLS
connection using the Trisul Remote Protocol.

Changes: New protocols (PPP/PPPoE supported) as well as various overall
enhancements. This build also fixes some stability issues that plagued the
earlier releases. Capture from multiple interfaces, IP defragmentation, a
janitor script, capturing only headers for forensics, support for PPPoE and
PPP and updated SQLITE3 amalgamation. Memory leaks have been fixed with
Playback. The codebase now supports gcc 4.3 (e.g. Fedora 9)
