[001] - Absolute OS 12.1.08
  by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
  Sun, Oct 12th 2008 20:38

About: Absolute Linux is a lightweight Slackware derivative that uses an
Icewm, pcmanfm, ROX-Filer, ivman, and others to create a lightweight yet
easy to use distribution. Installation is text-based but simplified, and
all packages are installed at once. It can run on a Pentium MMX with 64MB
of RAM (PII 400 with 128MB recommended). It features ease of browsing any
connected device in pcmanfm and an auto-popup menu for inserted playable
media. "Restricted" codecs are available to those eligible via a root-user
installer. Along with CD2 there is a large range of software compiled on
and for Absolute, including OpenOffice, Mplayer, GIMP, and K3B.

Changes: Firefox and xulrunner have been updated (3.0.3 and 1.9.0.3).
Thunderbird replaces Sylpheed for email, and OpenOffice on CD 2 is version
3.0.

[003] - Blob Wars : Blob and Conquer 1.02
  by Scarfy (http://freshmeat.net/users/Scarfy/)
  Sun, Oct 12th 2008 14:02

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: Blob Wars : Blob and Conquer is a 3rd person action shooter. With
the apparent defeat of Galdov and the reclaiming of the Fire, Time, Space,
and Reality Crystals, the Blobs' battle was only just beginning. Bob had
rescued many Blobs and fought many battles, but now he had an ever bigger
task ahead of him. The Blobs' homeworld is still littered with the alien
forces and Bob once again makes it his task to lead the counter attack. But
even without Galdov the aliens are still extremely well organised.

Changes: Saved game files are no longer compressed. A bug where it was not
possible to move Bob after loading a game was fixed. A bug that occurred
when loading or restarting a particular boss battle was fixed.

System :: Logging

About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.

Changes: Several changes were made to ensure that the suppression of stock
severity levels is complete, and the definition of custom severity levels
may use the pantheios::levels constant generator class template. The
pantheios::util::backends::Context base class was altered to facilitate a
wider range of severity levels than the 8 used by the stock
front-/back-ends. These are breaking changes: any programs that define
custom back-ends based on pantheios::util::backends::Context must be
modified, recompiled, and relinked.

[027] - PrBoom-Plus 2.4.8.5
  by entryway (http://freshmeat.net/users/entryway/)
  Sun, Oct 12th 2008 14:06

Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering

About: PrBoom-Plus is a modified PrBoom port with uncapped framerate,
variable gamespeed, re-record, walkcam, chasecam, full mouselook, FOV, and
other features without loss of compatibility with the original Doom.

Changes: The processor affinity mask is set under non-Windows platforms
using the POSIX API. This is a workaround for a bug in SDL_mixer that
causes occasional crashes on multicore systems. Strange behavior may result
if a dehacked patch changed the music or sound lump names. A crash which
occurred if a response file (i.e. @myargs.rsp) is used was fixed.

[033] - Task Coach 0.71.0
  by Frank Niessink (http://freshmeat.net/users/fniessink/)
  Sun, Oct 12th 2008 07:40

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and
todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that well-known task managers,
such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide
facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things to do consist
of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with composite tasks.

Changes: This release adds task and note synchronization, task templates,
more task recurrence options, more translations, and a whole bunch of
smaller enhancements.

[035] - The Python audio processing suite 0.0.4
  by Manuel Amador (Rudd-O) (http://freshmeat.net/users/ruddo/)
  Sun, Oct 12th 2008 07:47

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: The Python audio processing suite is a module that contains a
variety of convenience functions to process audio signals. It can be used
to plot spectral analyses of a song across time and to quickly ascertain
encoding quality, but the instrumental goal of this suite is to robustly
identify duplicated songs, regardless of which album they were released in,
encoding quality, or start time.

Changes: The default parameters were tuned for optimum correlation
coefficients. The library was cleaned up, splitting graphing into a
separate workbench module. More options were added to the command-line
programs. Some functions were documented, and some bugs were fixed. The API
remains unchanged, but it will change in the future.

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Tokyo Cabinet is a library of routines for managing a database. It
is the successor of QDBM. Tokyo Cabinet runs very fast. For example, the
time required to store 1 million records is 1.5 seconds for a hash database
and 2.2 seconds for a B+ tree database. Moreover, the database size is very
small. For example, the overhead for a record is 16 bytes for a hash
database, and 5 bytes for a B+ tree database. Furthermore, the scalability
of Tokyo Cabinet is great. The database size can be up to 8EB.

Changes: A script binding interface for Lua was added. Some utility
functions were added to the network server. Concurrency of the hash
database was improved.
