[002] - Amahi Linux Home Server 9.1 (Development)
by cpg (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpg/)

Information Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: The Amahi Home Server is a Linux Home Server based on Fedora (and
later on Ubuntu). Your machine becomes a "Home Digital Assistant" or HDA
after the installation. Each HDA is a Fedora-based server targeted for home
and home office environments. It provides an iTunes server, calendaring, a
wiki, shared network storage, network backups, a printer server, VPN, and a
plug-in architecture built on Ruby on Rails.
Changes: "Fixed IPs" and "Fixed Aliases" were added to the networking tab.
Views of the these tables were much improved. A security issue with new
user creation clashing with existing/priviledged users was fixed. More
informational messages were added for an empty Web apps table and for
editing the fields for hosts and aliases. Shares, users, and Web apps were
improved to check for proper names that are legal in the Linux platform.
Fixes were made to an artifact that would "nest" tables within tables for
users, shares, and Web apps, making them progressively smaller.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Text Processing :: Indexing
About: Apache Lucene is a high-performance, full-featured text search
engine library written entirely in Java. It is suitable for nearly any
application that requires full-text search, especially cross-platform.
Changes: InstantiatedIndex was added. IndexWriter constructors now default
autoCommit to false. The commit() method was added in IndexWriter.
TimeLimitedCollector adds a timeout to searches. Documents can be deleted
by Query in IndexWriter. Pure boolean indexing can be done. A new Directory
implementation, NIOFSDirectory, was added. IndexWriter.expungeDeletes() was
added. Searching with a Filter is more efficient. IndexReader can be opened
with the new readOnly=true mode. Many bugs were fixed.

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Database :: Front-Ends
About: Cego implements a relational and transactional database system with
support for the SQL query language. The current release contains the most
common database features for basic table manipulation and data retrieval.
Indexes, foreign keys, views, and stored procedures are also implemented.
Future releases (2.0 and above) will support a multi-node database concept
with log file shipping for an automatic database application failover.
Changes: The program was changed to use logical logging. Minor fixes and
extensions were added.

[005] - CELT audio codec 0.5.0
by Jean-Marc Valin (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmvalin/)

Communications :: Conferencing
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
About: CELT (Code-Excited Lapped Transform) is an ultra-low delay audio
codec designed for realtime transmission of high quality speech and audio.
This is meant to close the gap between traditional speech codecs (such as
Speex) and traditional audio codecs (such as Vorbis).
Changes: This release includes simplifications to the bit allocation code,
and includes a new low-complexity mode that can be enabled (without
breaking compatibility) on the encoder side. There are several other
optimizations and bugfixes included. The API has been slightly modified, so
code using CELT will have to be updated (minor).

[006] - DictEm 1.0.0
by Aleksey Cheusov (http://freshmeat.net/users/vle/)
Sat, Oct 11th 2008 19:24
About: DictEm is an extremely customizable DICT client for (X)Emacs. It
implements all functions of the client part of the DICT protocol
(RFC-2229). Unlike dictionary.el, it widely uses autocompletion that is
used for selecting a dictionary and search strategy. It provides several
hooks that may be used for buffer postprocessing. Built-in hyperlinking and
a highlighting mechanism are based on this ability. It supports the
mechanism of virtual dictionaries that can be used for grouping
dictionaries from different DICT servers into the client-side virtual
dictionary.
Changes: Running dictem-initialize every time your network or Internet
connection is up is a bit annoying. To avoid this, dictem is
(re)initialized (if needed) automatically from the dictem-select-strategy
and dictem-select-database functions. As a result, running
dictem-initialize in .emacs becomes unnecessary.

Communications
Communications :: File Sharing
Internet
About: Nephthys provides a Web interface to create file-sharing "buckets",
through which data can be shared. Nephthys handles the buckets in the local
filesystem of the server. Access and data transfer is made via FTP and
WebDAV. Nephthys itself does not provide the access protocol, but relies on
well known projects like Apache HTTPD (WebDAV) and ProFTPD (FTP).
Changes: This release contains Russian, Italian, Spanish, and Dutch
translations. The local address book provides an additional field to store
the full name of contacts. The auto-suggestion feature now works for
multiple receivers as well. A new "deny-password-change" flag has been
introduced to hide the password-change options for automatically-created,
server-authenticated users. Clicks on the "Notify" links now get confirmed
with a dialog message.

by massysett (http://freshmeat.net/users/massysett/)
Sat, Oct 11th 2008 19:37
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.
About: Pantry is a command line nutrient analysis program. It will help
you track your food intake and analyze recipes for their nutrient content.
Because it works entirely from the command line, it is very fast to use,
powerful, and flexible.
Changes: This version is much more efficient with memory usage and disk
usage for data files. Unfortunately, this also changes the file format, so
files created with Pantry 25 (and earlier versions) are incompatible with
Pantry 26. Also, the latest food database (SR21) from the USDA was
incorporated. There are some other minor changes.

viewable or not. Employees may be assigned to different departments for
different days. PDF documents may be generated from both the schedules and
daily assignments. Email notifications can be sent when schedules or
assignments are updated or added.
Changes: A few major bugs with the viewing of schedules were fixed. A bug
where the title summaries would not include titles that were not included
by default was fixed. A bug in the timeline where the timeline was
inaccurate if two or more employees with conflicting schedules were under
one parent template was fixed. A toggle title summary feature was added. An
option to show or hide titles in the title summary was added. Icons are no
longer being used against their license. All icons were changed to the

[026] - Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard 0.2.1
by Pedro Lopez-Cabanillas (http://freshmeat.net/users/plcl/)
Sat, Oct 11th 2008 18:58
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: MIDI
About: Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard is a MIDI event generator and receiver.
It doesn't produce any sound by itself, but can be used to drive a MIDI
synthesizer (either hardware or software, internal or external). You can
use the computer's keyboard or mouse to play MIDI notes. You can use the
Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard to display the played MIDI notes from another
instrument or MIDI file player.
Changes: This is a maintenance release, fixing a crash in Windows when
playing certain MIDI files and connecting a player output to VMPK input.
The reset all button now also resets the internal controllers' states. The
number of keys is now constrained to reasonable limits within the MIDI
notes range. The "grab keyboard" feature is now an optional runtime
