[001] - ALSA driver 1.0.18 (Stable)
by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
Thu, Oct 30th 2008 17:15
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
About: The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture is composed of several parts.
The first is a fully modularized sound driver which supports module
autoloading, devfs, isapnp autoconfiguration, and gives complete access to
analog audio, digital audio, control, mixer, synthesizer, DSP, MIDI, and
timer components of audio hardware. It also includes a fully-featured
kernel-level sequencer, a full compatibility layer for OSS/Free
applications, an object-oriented C library which covers and enhances the
ALSA kernel driver functionality for applications (client/server, plugins,
PCM sharing/multiplexing, PCM metering, etc.), an interactive configuration
program for the driver, and some simple utilities for basic management.
Changes: A jack reporting API was added. The PulseAudio plugin was
enhanced. Simultaneous compilation of both PXA AC97 drivers is now
possible. Drivers were added for TI TLV320AIC26, WM8900, WM8580, TriTech
28023, Asus V1Sn, ASUS Eeepc P90*, 92HD81/83, AMD HDMI Audio, and several
more. Some several enhancements to the alsactl utility were made. Code was
cleaned up. Many bugs were fixed.

[003] - Ananta 1.0
by mlitn (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlitn/)
Thu, Oct 30th 2008 07:51
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Ananta makes it possible for unexperienced users to create a
professional high-quality Web site quickly, while keeping the codebase
clean and easy to build upon for both developers and designers. Ananta
produces valid XHTML 1.0 code, and uses almost no tables. Ananta aims to be
as search-engine friendly as possible, without using dirty tricks that may
eventually get you banned. Ananta tries to be as multifunctional as
possible without making things overly complicated. The UI tries to prevent
inexperienced users from causing irreversible damage.
Changes: This is the first stable release.

[005] - Brain Workshop 4.11
by radix (http://freshmeat.net/users/radix42/)
Thu, Oct 30th 2008 05:53
Education
Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
Games/Entertainment
About: Brain Workshop is an implementation of the Dual N-Back mental
exercise. This exercise is a mental activity that has been scientifically
shown to improve your working memory (short-term memory) and fluid
intelligence. The game involves remembering a sequence of spoken letters
and a sequence of positions of a square at the same time. Brain Workshop
includes additional challenging game modes beyond Dual N-Back.
Changes: This release fixes the level decrease threshold in Novice mode. A
configuration option is now available to use the pre-4.1 flat squares.
There are two changes to Novice Mode to eliminate the last of the
differences compared to the original study protocol: exactly 6 position and
6 audio matches are now generated each session; and the score for the
session is set as the lowest of the two individual modality scores (visual
and audio).

[006] - Calcc 0.1.4
by Luigi Auriemma (http://freshmeat.net/users/Bugtest/)
Thu, Oct 30th 2008 00:00
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Utilities
About: Calcc is a command-line calculator for 32-bit and 64-bit numbers.
It supports multiple input and output formats (hex, decimal, octal, base4,
binary, string, IPv4/v6 addresses, percentage, time, base32 and base64),
parentheses, and the following operators: complement, not, shift, rotate,
xor, and, or, power, root, bit and byte swapping, multiplication, division,
modulus, addition, and subtraction. It can also be used like a quick number
converter.
Changes: This release fixes a bug with "complement" (~) and "not" (!) when
used without parentheses, adds base32 output, and adds a makefile for Unix.
The base64 output now uses the RFC 4648 alphabet, and there are portability
optimizations.

[008] - cfunge 0.3.3
by AnMaster (http://freshmeat.net/users/AnTux/)
Thu, Oct 30th 2008 17:28
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: cfunge is a fast interpreter for the Befunge98 esoteric language.
It is standard conforming.
Changes: Many common Befunge programs will run a lot faster due to
optimized Funge-Space (using a static array for the most commonly used
areas, and only using a hash table outside that). fflush() is called less
often now. Several bugs have been fixed (including a rare crash bug). All
I/O is now done using unsigned chars, instead of "whatever is native to the
system", leading to more predictable behavior and better standards
conformance.

About: Drupal is a Web content management (WCM) system. It provides a
simple, intuitive interface that allows an individual or a community of
users to easily publish, manage, and organize a wide variety of content on
a Web site without programming skills. Drupal is an extremely powerful
system that rewards the users who climb the fairly steep learning curve.
The JumpBox for Drupal lowers the learning curve a little by giving you a
Drupal installation thats ready to run in just minutes, allowing you to
focus on using Drupal rather than getting it installed. This JumpBox is for
the Drupal 6.x series of releases. A separate JumpBox is also available for
Drupal 5.x.

Thu, Oct 30th 2008 20:26
System :: Hardware
About: kbtrap is a program that monitors a keyboard for events and
executes commands when selected keys are pressed/released. It is
implemented as a server/client connected by pipes for flexibility.
Possible uses for this include using a keyboard/numpad to control
applications such as media players, media centers (using a remote that
identifies itself as a keyboard), kiosks, and anything that needs to
perform special events on certain keyboard events.

[028] - libev 3.48
by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
Thu, Oct 30th 2008 17:24
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Networking
About: Libev is a high-performance event loop for C (with optional and
separate interfaces for C++ and Perl), featuring support for I/O, timers
(relative and absolute, cron-like ones), signals, process status changes,
and other types of events. It has both a fast native API and libevent
emulation to support programs written using the libevent API. The libev
distribution consists of libevent with the core event handling parts
replaced by the libev embedded event loop. Differences to libevent include
higher speed, simpler design, more features, less memory usage,
embedability, and no arbitrary limits. libev supports epoll, kqueue,
Solaris event ports, poll, and select.
Changes: This release mainly adds additional checks to the epoll backend
to work around the design bugs in the epoll kernel interface, by detecting
and ignoring events sent to the wrong process or otherwise not being
current. It also tries even harder to reduce the number of syscalls for
common use patterns in the epoll backend. The documentation has once again
been expanded and improved, and a number of minor issues have been fixed,
among them that ev_default_destroy would leave libev in a state where one
couldn't create the default loop again.

[032] - Mausezahn 0.34.5
by wonko6x7 (http://freshmeat.net/users/wonko6x7/)
Thu, Oct 30th 2008 17:26
System :: Networking
About: Mausezahn is a fast traffic generator which allows you to send
nearly every possible and impossible packet. Mausezahn can be used, for
example, as a traffic generator to stress multicast networks, for
penetration testing of firewalls and IDS, for simulating DoS attacks on
networks, to find bugs in network software or appliances, for
reconnaissance attacks using ping sweeps and port scans, or to test network
behavior under strange circumstances. Mausezahn gives you full control over
the network interface card and allows you to send any byte stream you want
(even violating Ethernet rules).
Changes: This is an unplanned bugfix release before the next major release
(0.35) comes out. Ranges (ports and/or addresses) can now be used even when
no payload is specified. Two new features are included: RTP packet drop
count and disorder count (the number of permutations needed to regain the
correct sequence). These values are printed on the command line at regular
intervals.

System :: Operating System
System :: Operating System Kernels :: BSD
About: MirBSD originated as a patch set against OpenBSD-current, an ultra
secure operating system and NetBSD derivate, and has since also
incorporated changes from NetBSD, a 4.4BSD-derived ultra portable operating
system. It features bugfixes, code removal for the sake of simplicity, and
feature enhancements over stock OpenBSD as well as a much more up-to-date
GNU toolchain, careful integration of patches from other projects (such as
KAME), and many improvements. It works on the Intel Pentium and some 80486
machines with more than 32 MiB RAM and the SPARC, and a port to the PowerPC
Macintosh is in preparation.
Changes: This snapshot contains makefs for making ISO images, as well as

[035] - Object Shell 1.0.0
by geophile (http://freshmeat.net/users/geophile/)
Thu, Oct 30th 2008 05:54
Utilities
About: Object Shell (osh) is a tool that integrates the processing of
structured data, database access, files, processes, and remote access to a
cluster of nodes. These capabilities are made available through a
command-line interface (CLI) and a Python application programming interface
(API). Osh processes streams of Python objects using simple commands.
Complex data processing is achieved by command sequences in which the
output from one command is passed to the input of the next. This is similar
to composing Unix commands using pipes, but not limited to passing strings.
Changes: Database access through any DBAPI 2.0-compliant driver. New
commands: ls generates a stream of File objects. ps generates a stream of
Process objects. merge combines ordered streams of objects from multiple
threads of execution, usually using less memory and time compared to
sorting.
