Desktop Environment :: Tools
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Bashrun is a simple application launcher for X11. It runs a bash
session within a small xterm window, thus conveniently providing all the
common bash features like readline, tab completion, and history.
Optionally, in combination with xdotool, the terminal is kept running in
the background, reducing startup time and saving system resources. A number
of other common XTerminals like urxvt or mrxvt are also supported. Other
features include key bindings for resizing the terminal on the fly.

  by SJ (http://freshmeat.net/users/hcoder/)
  Tue, Nov 4th 2008 15:11

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: clapf is an email content filter application. It includes a
statistical (inverse chi-square) anti-spam module, interfaces to several
anti-virus products, a minefield (blackhole), spam quarantine, support for
various RBL lists, training utilities, and much more. It can be used as an
after queue content filter with Postfix (including as an appliance) or via
a local delivery agent (LDA), preferably maildrop.

Changes: Whitelist support was extended. A primitive token reassembly
logic was implemented to get "Cialis" from "C i a l i s", for example.
Messages to be trained can be forwarded to ham@yourdomain and
spam@yourdomain too. The username/uid versus email address query was
redesigned. You can store these assignments in either a MySQL database or
in an LDAP database/Active Directory. A new Web UI was added to replace the
CGI applications. The LDAP admin part is not ready yet, but it's pretty
usable. The qcache and external store support were temporarily disabled.

[008] - Daikon 4.5.1
  by Jeff Perkins (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhpnez/)
  Tue, Nov 4th 2008 22:18

Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.

Changes: A new front end for Eiffel is available, and a new tool
(MergeInvariants) for merging serialized invariant files was added. Some
modifications and bugfixes were made to the AnnotateNullable tool, and some
Daikon bugs were fixed.

  Tue, Nov 4th 2008 05:32

Terminals :: Serial

About: dterm is a simple terminal emulator which doesn't actually emulate
any particular terminal. Mainly, it is designed for use with xterm and
friends, which already do a perfectly good emulation. Therefore, it doesn't
need any special help; dterm simply provides a means by which keystrokes
are forwarded to the serial line, and data forwarded from the serial line
appears on the terminal.

Changes: This release adds X/Zmodem upload/download capability (uses rzsz
or lrzsz packages). It defaults to the first visible serial port if no
device is specified on the command line or in the configuration file.

[013] - ExactImage 0.6.5
  by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
  Tue, Nov 4th 2008 15:02

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick requires,
and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time the
"display" program takes.

Changes: The new image iterator and codegen was implemented for RGBA (RGB
+ Alpha) image data. The RAW camera file support was vastly improved by
updating the 2 year old bundled dcraw copy as well as surrounding C++ glue
code. Support for extracting the thumbnails of RAW files was implemented.
The TIFF codec was improved to not to try to decode RAW images written as
defective TIFF files.

[027] - nagios-notify 0.12
  by Elan Ruusamäe (http://freshmeat.net/users/glen666/)
  Tue, Nov 4th 2008 00:58

System :: Monitoring

About: nagios-notify is a template-based notify script for Nagios. The
templates can be easily edited in a text editor. You can change templates
without restarting Nagios. With advanced templates, you can send richtext
(even images) over jabber if you use nagios-notify-jabber. It depends only
on basic Unix utilities.

Changes: Templates and sample config have been renamed to follow the
nagios 3.0 naming schema: s/host-notify-by-/notify-host-by-/;
s/notify-by-/notify-service-by-/. Primitive support has been added for
conditions in templates. $(math) and $(urlencode) handlers for templates
have been added.

Internet
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
Utilities

About: ns4 is a configuration management tool which allows the automated
backup of just about anything, but it was designed for routers and
switches. If you are able to log into it through a CLI, you can back it up.
Commands are defined within a configuration file, and when they are
executed, the output is sent to a series of FTP/SFTP servers for archiving.
As well as archiving configurations, it allows scripts to be run on nodes;
this allows configurations to be applied en masse and allows conditional
logic so different bits of scripts are run on different nodes.

Changes: This release adds support for sending auditing information to a
syslog server. It also adds carbon copy support to the SMTP alert. It also
fixes a bug where nodes were not being selected when they didn't have a tag
associated with them.

[030] - nss-ldapd 0.6.6
  by Arthur (http://freshmeat.net/users/tiearthur/)
  Tue, Nov 4th 2008 22:19

System :: Networking :: LDAP
System :: Systems Administration

About: nss-ldapd is a (glibc) NSS module for doing name lookups to an LDAP
server. This module allows retrieval of information about Unix accounts,
groups, hosts, and other information from an LDAP directory. It is a fork
from the nss_ldap module to do some architectural changes. This
implementation splits the functionality into an NSS part and a local daemon
to do the lookups. This works around a number of problems in the original
implementation.

Changes: This release contains some Debian packaging improvements, allows
for spaces in user and group names to accommodate some specific
environments, retries connecting to the LDAP server in more circumstances,
and improves logging of option errors.

[031] - nut 14.1
  by Jim Jozwiak (http://freshmeat.net/users/jozwiak/)
  Tue, Nov 4th 2008 22:18

Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.

About: nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your
meals for nutrient composition. The database included is the latest USDA
Nutrient Database for Standard Reference. This database contains values for
vitamins, minerals, fats, calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, etc.,
and includes the essential polyunsaturated fats, Omega-3 and Omega-6.
Nutrient levels are expressed as a percentage of the Daily Value, the
familiar standard of food labeling in the United States, but also can be
fully customized. Foods can be added from recipes or food labels, and
nutrient intake can be graphed. The program is completely menu-driven and
there are no commands to learn.

[032] - Open Computer Forensics Architecture 2.1.0pl1
  by klpd (http://freshmeat.net/users/klpd/)
  Tue, Nov 4th 2008 15:07

About: The Open Computer Forensics Architecture (OCFA) is a modular
computer forensics framework to automate the digital forensic process, to
speed up the investigation and give tactical investigators direct access to
the seized data through an easy to use search and browse interface. The
architecture forms an environment where existing forensic tools and
libraries can be easily plugged into the architecture and can thus be made
part of the recursive extraction of data and metadata from digital
evidence. It aims to be highly modular, robust, fault tolerant, recursive,
and scalable in order to be usable in large investigations that spawn
numerous terabytes of evidence data and cover hundreds of evidence items.

Changes: Multiple minor changes and bugfixes were made. The tree module
was added to ease libtreegraph based module creation. Fixes were made in
apache virtual host creation from createcase. Fixes were made in how the
Web interface handles errors. A race condition was fixed in store. Parsing
of /proc/mounts now uses a tunable regex from the configuration. Processing
colons in the mailwash module Magic install script was fixed so that it no
longer uses and patches the existing system magic file, but instead
installs a tuned bundled magic file.

  Tue, Nov 4th 2008 22:24

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Schedule Organizer is an online appointment planner that allows
customers to reserve an appointment with a company via the company's
homepage. Appointment and customer data can be edited by the customers and
 operators.

Changes: The script allows the admin to make all appointments unavailable
by default and open up time spots manually as needed. The script is now
able to handle appointments in different time zones. A new feature allows
the admin to generate deep links to the script that will lead the user to a
certain week, appointment area, or directly to the appointment form, or
preselect the reason. An extra warning message will be shown if an admin
deletes another user with admin rights. That is meant to prevent an admin
locking himself out. The script is PHP 4 compatible and will remain so.

[041] - Spectro-Edit 0.4
  by Jonathan Fuerth (http://freshmeat.net/users/jfuerth/)
  Tue, Nov 4th 2008 18:19

About: Spectro-Edit reads in regular PCM audio files, then shows the audio
visually in a time vs. frequency plot. The fun part is that you can "paint
out" any part of the visualization and play back the audio subject to your
modifications. When you are happy with the result, you can save your work
back to a WAV file. This could be useful for podcasting (edit out
microphone noise, chair squeaks, phones ringing, and other background
noise), music (make strange and unusual modifications to the sound for
artistic reasons), research (visualize animal calls or noise pollution from
nearby industrial activity), and general purpose geekery (which was the
original purpose).

Changes: New features include: improved visualization with more user
control, and optional use of colour to double the displayed value
resolution; exponential sliders, which greatly improves their useful range;
the cursor position readout now shows the nearest musical note name (to the
semitone); repositioning of playback by clicking in the header; and the
ability to load stereo samples (they are automatically mixed down to mono).
Bugfixes include elimination of the audible blip at the end of the clip,
and numerous small but noticeable improvements to the shuttle controls and
the rest of the GUI.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The tox (Tomcat, Oracle, and XML) Web archive is a foundation for
development of HTTP-based applications using Tomcat (or some other servlet
container) and an Oracle RDBMS. It requires coding primarily in PL/SQL,
JavaScript, and XSLT, but also in HTML, CSS, and potentially Java. It
enables the construction of applications using the model/view/controller
(MVC) design pattern. With a controller that executes interpreted XML for
creating the model and view, developers can construct new functionality.
The model is retrieved either via includes or by the execution of Oracle's
stored procedures, and then passed to an XML stylesheet transform to
construct and return the view. Different combinations and options provide
rich dynamic content.

version has a crash handler that will try to let you save your document
if/when any other bugs show up. Users are strongly encouraged to upgrade.

[056] - Zoom Profiler 1.2.2
  by RotateRight (http://freshmeat.net/users/rotateright/)

Software Development
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
System :: Benchmark

About: Zoom is a low-overhead graphical and command line profiler for
Linux. A Zoom profile is system-wide, precise down to the instruction
level, and captures backtraces. This lets you see exactly what was running,
where time was spent, and how that code was called. Drill down into
critical code to get detailed performance data. Zoom analyzes and annotates
your code with specific tuning advice for many compilers and processors.
Share what you find with colleagues or archive it for later review. Zoom
saves profiles as a single, self-contained session file that can be emailed
or attached to bug reports. It also supports remote network profiling and
scripting.

Changes: This release adds custom driver support for RHEL4 (2.6.9). It
adds support for PAE kernels on Red Hat distributions. It has improved
basic profiling support via oprofile, and improved error reporting and
documentation. It adds support for resolving PLT section symbols. It has
improved source file discovery and path resolution. It fixes process/thread
scope button labels with CPU filtering enabled. It has a link in /usr/bin
for zoomscript. It has improved symbol truncation to remove parameters
before class name. It removes oprofile and rrprofile drivers before
installation.
