by Matthias Trute (http://freshmeat.net/users/mtrute/)
Mon, Nov 10th 2008 21:51
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Hardware
About: amforth is a Forth distribution for the the AVR Atmega
microcontroller. Once put into flash, it needs only a serial connection to
the host computer to work interactivly. New words are compiled directly
into flash, thus extending the dictionary immediately. It provides most of
the ANS94 Forth Standard plus extensions. It is written in AVR standard
assembly language and Forth itself. The main development uses Atmega8 and
Atmega32 controllers; other Atmega controllers work with small adjustments.
Changes: This release changes the storage structure of the dictionary, and
simplifies many words operating on it. It adds only a few new words, such
as environment, however.

Software Development :: Object Brokering
About: j-Interop is a Java Open Source library (under LGPL) that
implements the DCOM wire protocol (MSRPC) to enable development of Pure,
Bi- Directional, Non-Native Java applications which can interoperate with
any COM component. The implementation is itself purely in Java and does
not use Java Native Interface (JNI) to provide COM access. This allows
the library to be used from any Non-Windows platform. It comes with pre-
implemented packages for automation. This includes support for IDispatch,
ITypeInfo, and ITypeLib. For more flexibility (in the cases where
automation is not supported), it provides an API set to directly invoke
operations on a COM server.

[045] - Scala 2.7.2 (Scala 2)
by Antonio Cunei (http://freshmeat.net/users/cunei/)
Mon, Nov 10th 2008 16:50
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Scala is a modern multi-paradigm programming language designed to
express common programming patterns in a concise, elegant, and type-safe
way. It smoothly integrates features of object-oriented and functional
languages including mixins, algebraic datatypes with pattern matching,
genericity, and more. It is well integrated with Java and .NET: the Scala
compiler produces standard Java class files or .NET assemblies, and
Java/.NET libraries and frameworks can be used without glue code or
additional declarations.
Changes: The Scala compiler now generates Java's generic signatures, so
that Scala generics are visible to Java. The compiler can now parse (but
not translate) Java source files, enabling mixed Java/Scala projects with
recursive dependencies between them. The first beta version of the
ScalaSwing library is now bundled with the distribution. New
implementations of IntMap, LongMap, TreeHashMap (immutable), ArrayStack,
and OpenHashMap (mutable) were added.

System :: Operating System Kernels
System :: Operating System Kernels :: BSD
About: Thread Safe Template Library (TSTL) is a C++ library that provides
thread-safe storage data structures without global locking. It includes
classes for maps based on a non-binary extensible hashing tree for very
fast access, a pipe, a queue, a timercache, a limitcache, and a fast writer
