[002] - Approximate Dictionaries v25
by Harald Kirsch (http://freshmeat.net/users/pifpafpuf/)
Sun, Nov 23rd 2008 22:57
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Approdictio provides implementations of dictionaries that allow
approximate lookup. When looking up a word, all words are returned that are
approximately equal to the word given. The definition of approximately
equal depends on the metric provided to define the distance between two
words. An implementation of the Levensthein Metric with customizable edit
costs is part of the package.
Changes: The build process has been changed to produce Java 1.5 class
files for wider compatibility. Some classes have been refactored for better
readability and maintainability.

About: Argentum is a Web-based project and invoice management software. It
aims to be easy to use, while remaining a powerful tool.
Changes: This release fixes the schema.sql file for a missing column in
the modules table. It fixes a bug where entering the time would not record
the user entering the time. It adds missing user form fields when creating
a user. It fixes a bug where entering table rows in any table would not
work properly. It forces the application to use short tags even if they are
disabled in the main PHP installation.

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
About: Blob Wars : Blob and Conquer is a 3rd person action shooter. With
the apparent defeat of Galdov and the reclaiming of the Fire, Time, Space,
and Reality Crystals, the Blobs' battle was only just beginning. Bob had
rescued many Blobs and fought many battles, but now he had an ever bigger
task ahead of him. The Blobs' homeworld is still littered with the alien
forces and Bob once again makes it his task to lead the counter attack. But
even without Galdov the aliens are still extremely well organised.
Changes: The game now starts in a resolution of 800 x 600 rather than 1900

[020] - libv4l 0.5.6
by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
Sun, Nov 23rd 2008 23:24
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Hardware
About: libv4l is a collection of libraries that adds a thin abstraction
layer on top of video4linux2 (V4L2) devices. The purpose of this layer is
to make it easy for application writers to support a wide variety of
devices without having to write separate code for different devices in the
same class. It consists of 3 different libraries. libv4lconvert offers
functions to convert from any (known) pixel format to V4l2_PIX_FMT_BGR24 or
V4l2_PIX_FMT_YUV420. libv4l1 offers the (deprecated) v4l1 API on top of
v4l2 devices, independent of the drivers for those devices supporting v4l1
compatibility (which many v4l2 drivers do not). libv4l2 offers the v4l2 API
on top of v4l2 devices, while adding for the application transparent
libv4lconvert conversion where necessary.
Changes: The frame format is now initially set (s_fmt), even if there is
no change, to satisfy some UVC cameras' expectancies. Flooding cameras with
try_fmt requests is avoided for performance reasons and buggy cameras that
might crash.

[038] - Tokyo Cabinet 1.3.20
by Mikio Hirabayashi (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikio/)
Sun, Nov 23rd 2008 15:09
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Tokyo Cabinet is a library of routines for managing a database. It
is the successor of QDBM. Tokyo Cabinet runs very fast. For example, the
time required to store 1 million records is 1.5 seconds for a hash database
and 2.2 seconds for a B+ tree database. Moreover, the database size is very
small. For example, the overhead for a record is 16 bytes for a hash
database, and 5 bytes for a B+ tree database. Furthermore, the scalability
of Tokyo Cabinet is great. The database size can be up to 8EB.
Changes: Durability of transactions was improved by write ahead logging.

[039] - UJO Framework 0.82
by Paul Ponec (http://freshmeat.net/users/pponec/)

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: UJO Framework offers a special architecture of beans different from
conventional JavaBeans. The useful features are XML persistence of an
object tree, simple introspection, easy collaboration with Swing tables,
and very light weight.
Changes: There are three new Ujo implementations for different purposes.
FactoryUjo is a factory to create new instances by property type. The
special parameter constructor is supported, as well as no parameter
constructor. RegistrarUjo allows one to register the PropertyChangeListener
for a selected property and an action (before or after) value change.
FieldUjo provides access to private object fields by UjoProperty. All
implementations are in a different package structure, and will not be in
the core in the future.

About: Yet Another Dynamic Engine (YADE) is an extensible framework that
is designed with dynamic libraries in a way that it is easy to add new
numerical models and objects. There are four different models: Discrete
Element Method based on spheres, a second method based on tetrahedra,
modelling with lattice elements, and Finite Element Method.
Changes: Several Python interface improvements, a code for plotting
histogram of interaction directions, and a new contact algorithm for facets
were added. A Python script for making videos and a TCP server on port 9000
with a Python console in it were made. There is a new dependency on the
python-numpy package, which allows faster math in Python. A script for
parametric studies was written.
