Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion
About: 'Q' DVD-Author is a GUI frontent for dvdauthor and related tools.
The goal is to provide an easy-to-use, yet powerful and complete interface
to generate DVD menus, slideshows, and videos to burn on a DVD under Linux.
Changes: This release focuses on major improvements to the Slideshow parts
and proper handling of VIDs as part of the slideshows. The FewClickWizards
functionality is now complete, and overall slideshow generation is now
fully integrated in QDVDAuthor.

[002] - Apache SQL analyser 1.1
by Steve Kemp (http://freshmeat.net/users/skx/)
Sun, Nov 30th 2008 20:27
Internet :: Log Analysis
About: asql allows you to run SQL queries against log files formatted in
the Apache common log file format. You may load multiple log files into a
session, then run queries using a full SQL implementation, to find things
such as the most common referers to your site, the greediest downloaders,
and much more. Internally, each log file is parsed and imported into a
temporary SQLite database, so performance is very good.
Changes: This release updates the script such that it may be executed
non-interactively from within cron jobs, without a controlling terminal.

[006] - convmv 1.13
by Björn JACKE (http://freshmeat.net/users/bjoernjacke/)
Sun, Nov 30th 2008 20:50
About: convmv converts filenames (not file content), directories, and
even whole filesystems to a different encoding. This comes in very handy
if, for example, one switches from an 8-bit locale to an UTF-8 locale or
changes charsets on Samba servers. It has some smart features: it
automagically recognises if a file is already UTF-8 encoded (thus partly
converted filesystems can be fully moved to UTF-8) and it also takes care
of symlinks. Additionally, it is able to convert from normalization form C
(UTF-8 NFC) to NFD and vice-versa. This is important for interoperability
with Mac OS X, for example, which uses NFD, while Linux and most other
Unixes use NFC. Though it's primary written to convert from/to UTF-8 it can
also be used with almost any other charset encoding. Convmv can also be
used for case conversion from upper to lower case and vice versa with
virtually any charset. Note that this is a command line tool which requires
at least Perl version 5.8.0.
Changes: This release adds a new parseable mode, an option to better fix
double UTF-8 encoded files, and the ability to preserve timestamps. Some
minor things have been polished.

booting Windows and OpenBSD), Plan 9, or memtest86.
Changes: Support was added for the LiPPERT Cool RoadRunner-LX embedded
PC/104 board and the SST25VF080B and SST25VF032B flash chips. AMD/ATI SB600
southbridge SPI was added. Intel 810 code clean-ups and enhancements were
made, including support for multiple DIMMs, both single-sided and
double-sided, as well as most combinations thereof. msrtool was enhanced to
decode MSRs and print the value of every field in human readable form.

[022] - gWaei 0.9.0
by Zachary Dovel (http://freshmeat.net/users/pizzach2/)
Sun, Nov 30th 2008 09:36
Education
About: gWaei is a Japanese-English dictionary program for the GNOME
desktop. It is made to be a modern drop-in replacement for Gjiten, with
many of the same features. The dictionary files it uses are from Jim
Breen's WWWJDIC project and are installed separately through the program.
It features easy dictionary installation, support for searching using
regular expressions, streaming of results so the interface is never frozen,
and a simple interface that makes sense.
Changes: This release brings compatibility to locales other than
Ja_JP.UTF-8. Particularly in C locales, the program had a tendency to
crash. This hopefully fixes the last of the major bugs. Other major changes
include Kanjipad integration. Clicking one of the kanji characters will
automatically copy it into the search input bar. The install window now
lets you choose different install sources than the default source. This
makes it possible to save an edict file and install it without an Internet
connection.

[038] - Veejay 1.4.3
by Niels Elburg (http://freshmeat.net/users/nelburg/)
Sun, Nov 30th 2008 23:51
Multimedia
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Video
About: Veejay is a visual instrument and real-time video sampler. It
allows you to "play" the video like you would play a piano. While playing,
you can record the resulting video directly to disk (video sampling).
Veejay can be operated live by using the keyboard (which is completely user
definable) or remotely over TCP/IP. Veejay can be used to manipulate video
in a realtime environment such as visual performances or for (automated)
interactive video installations.
Changes: Easier to compile; several dependencies have been dropped
(Unicap, MJPEG Tools, and GtkCairo). Faster capturing (EffecTV's v4lutils)
instead of Unicap. A command line switch to swap YUV range [0..255] <->
[16..235] on input video files. Better slow motion: interpolation of the
first/last frame according to loop direction. A skin for 1024x768 reloaded
has been added.

synthesizer (either hardware or software, internal or external). You can
use the computer's keyboard or mouse to play MIDI notes. You can use the
Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard to display the played MIDI notes from another
instrument or MIDI file player.
Changes: A bug that rendered VMPK's input port useless when used to
display notes sent from other programs like Rosegarden has been fixed. The
usage of system resources in Linux has been optimized, avoiding creation of
an ALSA sequencer queue.

Sun, Nov 30th 2008 20:27
About: xen-shell is a simple console program to allow a hosting company to
delegate control of Xen instances directly to their clients. The shell
allows a user to boot, shutdown, or reimage their own personal Xen guest
without giving the user general access to the Xen host system or allowing

[044] - Zero Install Injector 0.37
by Thomas Leonard (http://freshmeat.net/users/tal197/)
Sun, Nov 30th 2008 20:20
Internet
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Software Distribution
About: The Zero Install Injector makes it possible for users to install
software easily and without the need for root privileges. It takes the URL
of a program's interface description and chooses suitable versions of the
program and all of its dependencies (also identified by URLs) according to
the user's policy settings (eg. "stable", "testing", "minimal network use",
etc). The chosen versions are downloaded and cached and the program is run,
using environment variables to let it find the components.
Changes: Minor bugs were fixed in the code to avoid rechecking a failed
feed too often, for selecting source code versions for compiling, and for
saving user preferences about preferred versions. The dialog for managing
installed applications was improved.
