About: aa2map (ASCII art 2 map) is a procedural map generator that parses
ASCII art and heightmaps into a Quake III: Arena (id Tech 3) map file.
Everyone who can operate a keyboard can use this to create custom maps for
id Tech 3 based games.
Changes: Many huge code cleanups were done. A Web frontend was added for
generating maps online. Run, strafe, landscapes, and other map types are
also generated now.

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals
About: Bashrun is a simple application launcher for X11. It runs a bash
session within a small xterm window, thus conveniently providing all the
common bash features like readline, tab completion, and history.
Optionally, in combination with xdotool, the terminal is kept running in
the background, reducing startup time and saving system resources. A number
of other common XTerminals like urxvt or mrxvt are also supported. Other
features include key bindings for resizing the terminal on the fly.
Changes: The install scripts now install into /usr/local by default,
unless you use the --prefix=path option to change the install prefix. This
version adds support for launching the manual or info page for a command
using M-? and M-C-? respectively. New configuration options have been added
to define a handler for directory paths, to add additional commandline
options to the terminal, to keep the terminal window open permanently and
to run a command after making the window visible (e.g. to set transparency
via transset).

by jcolinzheng (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcolinzheng/)
Sat, Nov 29th 2008 07:02
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: News/Diary
About: folder2blog is a minimalist blog engine based on plain text. You
maintain a folder of text files, one for each article, and folder2blog
dynamically maps it to blog-ish HTML/RSS2 output. Comments are appended to
each text file. Managing articles/comments now becomes creating or editing
text files. For example, all you do is edit a local folder of plain text
files and sync it with the server, manually or using tools such as rsync,
over SSH or FTP. The encoding may be anything (UTF-8 by default). The HTML
formatter is any external program, such as markdown, that may act as a
pipe. The owner receives notification email for each comment. There is
basic spam protection.
Changes: Minor improvements.

About: jDTAUS is a Java implementation of the German DTAUS file format. It
implements the DTAUS specification version 2.3 (dated September 2008). The
API was written with mass-data support in mind and provides all possible
kinds of operations on a DTAUS file. Performance or memory critical
sections of the code can be hand-tuned via a property file without
rebuilding the code. The API is based on an abstraction layer for I/O
operations, so implementations can be adopted to other persistence
mechanisms.

Sat, Nov 29th 2008 19:19
Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
About: jGnash is a personal finance application written in Java. A JVM of
1.4 or greater is required. jGnash supports several account types,
including investment accounts. jGnash has support for split transactions,
nested accounts, scheduled transactions, commodities, and currencies.
jGnash can import QIF files, excluding investment accounts and
transactions. Data is stored in an XML format so it is easy to manipulate
and read the data external to the program. jGnash also has scripting
support to add custom reports and functionality.

[018] - Lbzip2 0.07
by lacos (http://freshmeat.net/users/lacos/)
Sat, Nov 29th 2008 19:57
System :: Archiving :: Compression
About: Lbzip2 is a Pthreads-based parallel bzip2/bunzip2 filter, passable
to GNU tar with the --use-compress-program option. It isn't restricted to
regular files on input, nor output. Successful splitting for decompression
isn't guaranteed, just very likely (failure is detected). Splitting in both
modes and compression itself occur with an approximate 900k block size. On
an Athlon-64 X2 6000+, lbzip2 was 92% faster than standard bzip2 when
compressing, and 45% faster when decompressing (based on wall clock time).
Lbzip2 strives to be portable by requiring UNIX 98 APIs only, besides an
unmodified libbz2.
Changes: A manual page that uses the man macro package was added. The
README file describes the compressed output and why there is only one exit
status for all types of errors. A more portable Makefile was created. A
little code was cleaned up.

About: TeXDrive is an Emacs minor mode that makes adding math formulae to
HTML documents easy. You can specify the formula in the familiar TeX
notation, and TeXDrive creates a PNG image with the formula and also

[035] - VMware 6.5.1 (Workstation)
by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
Sat, Nov 29th 2008 19:59
About: VMware allows you to run 'virtual machines' inside a Linux host. It
is not an emulator. It provides a virtual computer within the host which
can boot whichever OS you decide to put on the filesystem image that is
used as a harddrive. It will run DOS 6.22, Win 3.1, Win9x,
WinNT/2000/XP/2003, Linux, Novell, and more. The only main requirement is a
400 MHz or better machine, along with lots of RAM (128M minimum, 256M
recommended).
Changes: Experimental smart card support for Linux guests was introduced.
Repainting of application windows in Unity mode on Linux guests was
improved. 3D graphics performance for Windows XP guest was improved.
Replaying of recordings by older VMware Workstation versions is now partly
supported. A freeze on automatic update of VMware tools on RHEL5 was
resolved. Several other bugs were fixed.

[038] - Weblocks 0.8
by Skypher (http://freshmeat.net/users/skypher/)
Sat, Nov 29th 2008 14:49
About: Weblocks is an advanced Web framework written in Common Lisp. It is
designed to make Agile Web application development as effective and simple
as possible. It uses powerful Common Lisp features like multiple dispatch,
the metaobject protocol, lexical closures, keyword arguments, and macros to
build abstractions that make Web development easy, intuitive, and free of
boilerplate. In addition, control flow is easily expressed using
continuations. Things that are hard or mundane in other frameworks become
easy and fun in Weblocks
Changes: This release features many major and minor fixes, enhancements,
and additions that are too numerous to list. Highlights include a new
dispatching system, substantial bugfixes in the view system, a highly
flexible dependency mechanism, and support for multiple Web applications in
one image.

[040] - wmjump 07
by Andrei Mikhailov (http://freshmeat.net/users/a_mkhlv/)
Sat, Nov 29th 2008 00:10
Desktop Environment :: Tools
About: wmjump provides keyboard navigation for the Linux desktop. Use the
keyboard to switch between windows and workspaces. A menu is shown with the
colored list of windows, marked by the letters a-z. Pressing the key a-z
"teleports" to that window. The colors of the buttons are configurable.
Changes: The snowflake symbol was introduced to mark the currently active
window. A new command line option, -c or --current, only shows windows from
the current desktop. There is a new setup option in wmjump-rc,
background_window_currentonly_style, which determines the color of the
window border with the --current option.
