About: AppGate Security Server is an access control gateway for secure
access to resources such as TCP ports, network ranges, Web pages, file
shares, and remote desktops. Users connect with the cross-platform AppGate
client (or any standard SSH client) and the server has a detailed
configuration that says which users gain access to what under which
circumstances. AppGate Free Edition is a virtual appliance running in a
VMWare image and is limited to a maximum of 20 concurrent users.

Scientific/Engineering
About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: The XeLaTeX TeX engine was implemented. Bugs in PDFLaTeX output
and the XeLaTeX alignment were fixed.

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random, Least
Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to set
up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports SNMP,
integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It implements a very fast
in-memory IP-to-location database, allowing powerful location-based server
load-balancing.
Changes: The "network N synciface" configuration directive has been added,
allowing the direction of session and NAT synchronization traffic over a
dedicated interface (using a crossover cable, for example). The manual has
been updated accordingly.

About: libpng (PNG library) is a collection of routines used to create

and extensions.
Changes: This release fixes a newly discovered vulnerability in which some
arrays of pointers are not initialized prior to using malloc to define the
pointers. If the application runs out of memory while executing the
allocation loop (which can be forced by malevolent input), libpng will jump

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
System
About: Logapp is a wrapper utility that helps supervise the execution of
applications that produce heavy console output (e.g. make, CVS, and
Subversion). It does this by logging, trimming, and coloring each line of
the output before displaying it. It can be called instead of the executable
that should be monitored; it then starts the application and logs all of
its console output to a file. The output shown in the terminal is
preprocessed, e.g. to limit the length of printed lines and to show the
stderr output in a different color. It is also possible to automatically
highlight lines that match a certain regular expression. The output is
therefore reduced to the necessary amount, and all important lines are easy
to identify.
Changes: This release adds support for extended regular expressions. The
command line parameter parsing has been reworked.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Playing
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3
About: OpenDJMix is a virtual DJ system which allows you to mix MP3 files
and audio CD tracks. It consists of a C++ API that manages a virtual sound
bus with its I/O and a Qt GUI that enables a user to mix 4 MP3 or audio CD
tracks. The API has been designed to be used in all multitrack sound tools.
Changes: Speed improvements. GUI improvements. ALSA MIDI support for DJ
Controller. Numark Total Control Controller support. A fixed for a CDDA
segfault. Change volume behaviour that disables the turntable when the
volume slider is set to the lowest position. A fix for a segfault caused by
the Wave display widget when a song is loading. A fix for a lock on
RawSource object destructor that prevented RawSource/MP3Source/CDASource
from freeing memory. The ALSA player has been redesigned a bit; latency is
lower and the player works (again) with USB Soundcard/Low power computers.
This release compiles on Ubuntu Intrepid (after installing the right
librairies).

[032] - PHP MIME Mail decoder class 2009.02.17
by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
Thu, Feb 19th 2009 10:38
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP MIME Mail decoder class is a PHP class to parse and decode MIME
email messages. It supports decoding single RFC 2822 MIME messages or
archives that aggregate multiple messages in the mbox format. It can decode
messages read from files or data strings. The bodies of multipart messages
can be decoded into distinct sub-messages. Optionally, the message body
data can be saved to separate files, so the class can handle messages
larger than the available memory. The parser can tolerate some syntax
errors in malformed messages that are not compliant with RFC 2822.
Changes: This release correctly decodes attached file names with non-ASCII
characters. It also only skips parsing the message bodies when SkipBody is
explicitly set to true.

System :: Archiving :: Compression
About: pngcrush is an excellent batch-mode compression utility for PNG
images. Depending on the application that created the original PNGs, it can
improve the file size anywhere from a few percent to 40% or more
(completely losslessly). The utility also allows specified PNG chunks (e.g.
text comments) to be inserted or deleted, and it can fix incorrect gamma
info written by Photoshop 5.0 as well as the erroneous iCCP chunk written
by Photoshop 5.5.
Changes: This release is built with libpng-1.2.35 to avoid the
CVE-2009-0040 vulnerability (free of arbitrary undefined pointers).

the transcoding process. Track metadata can be retrieved from FreeDB or
FreeDB-compatible servers. Audio formats supported are WAV, FLAC, WavPack,
MP3, Ogg Vorbis, M4A, and more.
Changes: ID3v2 tag handling has been rewritten for better compatibility
and easier maintenance. Support has been unified for .cue files, .toc

[042] - task spooler 0.6.3
by viric (http://freshmeat.net/users/viric/)
Thu, Feb 19th 2009 08:45

About: task spooler is a Unix batch system where the tasks spooled run one
after the other. The amount of jobs to run at once can be set at any time.
Each user in each system has his own job queue. The tasks are run in the
correct context (that of enqueue) from any shell/process, and its
output/results can be easily watched. It is very useful when you know that
your commands depend on a lot of RAM, a lot of disk use, give a lot of
output, or for whatever reason it's better not to run them all at the same
time, while you want to keep your resources busy for maximum benfit. Its
interface allows using it easily in scripts.
Changes: A bug on -c and -t was fixed. Support was added for arbitrary
dependencies (-D). Version checking on the client-server protocol was
added. The server was made to chdir to / to avoid umount problems.

About: TaskForest is a simple but expressive job scheduler that allows you
to chain jobs and tasks and to create time dependencies. It uses plain-text
configuration files to specify task dependencies. It comes with a built-in
RESTful Web service. It was originally designed for a single machine, but
support for multiple machines is planned.
Changes: An incorrect test job file was shipped in the previous version.
This file relied on /bin/bash, and not /bin/sh. This caused test 017 to
fail on any machine that did not have /bin/bash. The file has been fixed in
this release.
