System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration
About: The Anemon Dhcp Server is a part of the Anemon DHCP project. It's a
DHCP server with an SQL database backend.
Changes: This is the first really usable version. It corrects a lot of
bugs from the 0.3 version, and adds a lot of minor features that make the
server usable, such as daemonization, green threading (Python thread),
caching, a major code cleanup, better DHCP compliant behavior, charge tests
(with the anemon client generator), the removal of SQL injection
possibilities, and more.

by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering
About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: Support was added for XeLaTeX. The 2D contour routines were
generalized to handle nonuiform lattices; interpolation artifacts are
avoided when the midpoint function values are unknown. An interactive 3D
surface of revolution example was added to slidedemo; rendered images are
automatically included when fitting non-PRC pictures. Duplicate
beginclip/endclip functions in pstoedit.asy were removed. Errors on EOF
after reading 0 values are no longer reported. One-column legends are now
handled correctly. Constructors in the base files were updated. An
electromagnetic spectrum example was added.

Software Development
About: BitRock InstallBuilder allows you to create easy-to-use
multiplatform installers for Linux (x86/PPC/s390/x86_64/Itanium), Windows,
Mac OS X, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris (x86/Sparc), IRIX, AIX, and HP-UX
applications. The generated application installers have a native
look-and-feel and no external dependencies, and can be run in GUI, text,
and unattended modes. In addition to self-contained installers, the
installation tool is also able to generate standalone RPM packages.
Changes: A GTK segmentation fault was fixed for Linux installers on recent
Linux distributions. The enableLinuxLegacySupport project property was
added. You will now need to manually enable this setting if you need to
support Linux versions older than 2.3 (older than Red Hat 9). The --version
information was added to the window's right-click menu properties.
progressText is included for all actions. A console command line builder
was added to Windows. Support was added for HTTP Basic authentication in
httpGet and httpPost actions. A file is not created to save a request
result if no file was specified. Many more features and fixes were made.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video
Scientific/Engineering
About: libCVD is a very portable and high performance C++ library for
computer vision, image, and video processing. The emphasis is on providing
simple and efficient image and video handling and high quality
implementations of common low-level image processing function. The library
is designed in a loosely-coupled manner, so that parts can be used easily
in isolation if the whole library is not required. The video grabbing
module provides a simple, uniform interface for videos from a variety of
sources (live and recorded) and allows easy access to the raw pixel data.
Likewise, the image loading/saving module provides simple, uniform
interfaces for loading and saving images from bitmaps to 64 bit per channel
RGBA images. The image processing routines can be applied easily to images
and video, and accelerated versions exist for platforms supporting SSE.
Changes: The semantics for live and recorded video streams were fixed. The
ability to read and write ASCII images was added. Reading of FITS images
was added. Haar transforms, fast connected components, and Harris and
Shi-Tomasi corner detection were added. The build system now produces a .so

Wed, Feb 18th 2009 11:15
Desktop Environment :: Tools
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: Nall is a small status icon application that discreetly fits into
the system tray. Its purpose is to spawn a list of user scripts
periodically and display one line of output per script in a tooltip window.
Thus, it is possible to "monitor" any kind of event that can be detected
with a script. Nall does not care about the return values of the scripts it
runs, but only displays their output. It is also easy to interface nall
with Nagios plugins.
Changes: This version uses an asynchronous way to reap script output,
