Information Management

About: AgileWiki is an SDK for assembling software systems which are
fluid, easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever
changing requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics
programming paradigm, and semantic inferencing.

Changes: PeerArkProxies are working again. Keywords can again be assigned
by everyone. Relations can now be defined under any realm. Permissions on
relations are now enforced. The Ark is now a realm.

[002] - Cacti 0.8.6d (Development)
  by Ian Berry (http://freshmeat.net/users/raxnet/)
  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 11:01

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Cacti is a complete frontend to RRDTool. It stores all of the
necessary information to create graphs and populate them with data in a
MySQL database. The frontend is completely PHP driven. Along with being
able to maintain graphs, data sources, and round robin archives in a
database, Cacti also handles the data gathering. There is SNMP support for
those used to creating traffic graphs with MRTG.

Changes: This version fixes a handful of bugs.

[004] - CharEntry 1.7
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 11:04

Text Processing
Text Processing :: General
Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: CharEntry is a tool for inserting non-ASCII characters into text,
with particular emphasis on linguistic notation. It provides charts of the
consonants, vowels, and diacritics of the International Phonetic Alphabet
as well as a chart of precomposed accented characters. Clicking on a
character inserts it into a text region, the contents of which may be saved
to a file or copied and pasted elsewhere. A widget for inserting characters
by Unicode codepoint is also provided. Furthermore, it is possible to read
the definition of a custom character chart from a file.

Changes: Export to the clipboard is now automatic, which is much more
convenient.

[005] - CppCMS 0.0.4
  by Artyom Beilis (http://freshmeat.net/users/artyombeilis/)
  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 18:09

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: CppCMS is a C++ Web development framework (not CMS). It differs
from most of other Web development frameworks like Python Django, Java
Servlets, or C++ Wt because it is designed and tuned to handle extremely
high loads, and it is aimed at development of Web sites rather then
"GUI-like" Web applications.

Changes: Support for embedded devices was added. CppCMS can be configured
as a stripped CGI only version or as a limited fastcgi version for embedded
devices.

  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 00:35

Home Automation

About: domus.Link is a Web-based frontend for Heyu. Its design focuses on
separating configuration from actual controls, thus giving the user a
simple and user-friendly GUI. The primary concern is that anyone with
little or no knowledge of home automation systems can easily manage and
administer the system.

Changes: This release includes two of the most anticipated features,
namely timer/trigger administration and an iPhone theme. Other features
have been added.

  by Chirok Han (http://freshmeat.net/users/beanerjo/)
  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 18:12

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: fig2pstricks is a command-line driven application to convert a fig
(or xfig) version 3.2 file to PSTricks codes. It is especially useful to
convert graphics created by R's xfig() device, but it can be used with any
fig files. When used together with LaTeX, dvips, ps2pdf, and Prosper, it
can also create a PDF slide show with great ease.

Changes: The "-12" and "-11" options were added. They insert "12pt" and
"11pt" respectively to the document option. A "configure" script was added,
but it only shows you a help message. Now you can use "make install".
fig2epspdf was cleaned up a little. The version number was fixed. An MSDOS
binary is not provided anymore. You can easily build yours using MinGW.

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries

About: libextractor is a library used to extract meta-data from files of
arbitrary type. It is designed to use helper-libraries to perform the
actual extraction, and to be trivially extendable by linking against
external extractors for additional file types. The goal is to provide
developers of file-sharing networks, file managers, and WWW-indexing bots
with a universal library to obtain meta-data about files. It includes a
shell-command and bindings for Java (JNI) and Python.

Changes: This release fixes various minor bugs in various plugins and the
build system. It uses libtool 2.x, which helps fix some issues with
multiple threads loading and unloading certain plugins concurrently.

  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 11:02

Communications :: Telephony
Office/Business
Security

About: GNU SIP Witch is a pure SIP-based office telephone call server that
supports generic phone system features like call forwarding, hunt groups
and call distribution, call coverage and ring groups, holding, and call
transfer, as well as offering SIP specific capabilities such as presence
and messaging. It supports secure telephone extensions for making calls

  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 11:01

Education
Software Development

About: Mediabird is about learning together. Users can take notes on
subjects they want to learn and discuss questions in the context they
appear. Mediabird focuses on linking information about the learning process
with the matter itself. This allows for later repetition of important
thoughts that came up during the study process. The context also serves for

[023] - Port Scan Attack Detector 2.1.5

  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 20:55

System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: The Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three
system daemons that are designed to work with the Linux iptables
firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect traffic. It
features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with sensible
defaults), verbose alert messages, email alerting, DShield reporting, and
automatic blocking of offending IP addresses. Psad incorporates many of the
packet signatures included in Snort to detect various kinds of suspicious
scans, and implements the same passive OS fingerprinting algorithm used by
p0f.

Changes: SELinux policy files were added to make psad compatible with
SELinux. The files are located in a new "selinux" directory in the sources.
A bug was fixed in which local server ports were not reported correctly
under netstat parsing. A bug was fixed in the start() function in the
Gentoo init script which caused psad to not be started and the error "*
ERROR: psad failed to start" to be generated. A bug that occurred when
ENABLE_SYSLOG_FILE is enabled was fixed.

[024] - PyMultimethods 0.1
  by Nathan Davis (http://freshmeat.net/users/davisn/)
  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 00:36

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: PyMultimethods is a library that enables users to create
multimethods in Python. In other words, you can create multiple versions of
the same function/method. The one that is invoked depends on the runtime
parameters. This is similar to polymorphism in the sense that the object
type determines which version of the function is invoked. Multimethods go
beyond the polymorphism found in conventional object oriented languages,
however, because all parameters are taken into account (as opposed to only
the "implied this", as in C++ or Java). PyMultimethods can also be used to
"overload" a function or method.

[031] - TaskForest 1.17
  by enoor (http://freshmeat.net/users/enoor/)
  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 21:36

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
System :: Monitoring

About: TaskForest is a simple but expressive job scheduler that allows you
to chain jobs and tasks and to create time dependencies. It uses plain-text
configuration files to specify task dependencies. It comes with a built-in
RESTful Web service. It was originally designed for a single machine, but
support for multiple machines is planned.

Changes: The major change in this release is the addition of an
alternative run wrapper script called run_with_log. It performs the same
functions as the original wrapper, and also creates a log file that
captures both STDOUT and STDERR of the job being run. On the Web site, you
can now display the log file of any running or completed job by clicking on
the displayed status of the job. The RESTful Web service also supports
this. The documentation has been updated to reflect this, and a couple of
entries have also been added to the HOWTO section of the documentation.

[032] - Tobu 0.5.3
  by rainy (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainy/)
  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 18:15

Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management :: Records Management

About: Tobu is a tag-oriented freeform information organizer. It can be
used to organize notes, todo lists, files, clips, code snips, diary
entries, etc. Tobu revolves around tagging each item and using the tags to
filter and sort items and to narrow down searches.

Changes: A filter box was added to the tag list. The tag listing window
was changed to a list control type instead of an icon list. An option was
added in the find dialog to narrow the search by 1-3 tags. It's now
possible to write the database to a text or HTML file. List/text areas can
be toggled off. A filter box was added to the tag list and a problem with
saving a record twice in some cases was fixed.

[036] - Vendetta Online 1.8.59
  by Incarnate (http://freshmeat.net/users/incarnate/)
  Sat, Feb 21st 2009 18:08

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters

About: Vendetta Online is a multi-platform 3D space-combat MMO for
Windows, Mac, Linux/32 and Linux/64. The game permits players to interact
in a vast online galaxy; fighting, trading, and mining their way to
success. A "twitch" type real-time combat model makes true player skill the
deciding factor instead of character advancement. Massive capital-ship
battles shake the foundations of the major nations at war, while others
struggle to push back the encroachment of the AI "Hives". A no-strings free
trial is available.

Changes: Eight new trade routes were added to and from grayspace: Corvus
Holodisks and Textiles (Sol/Itan), Manufacturing Tools, Metana Sweets,
Oxygen Recycling Systems, Rare Books, Serco Cybernetic Implants, and
Textured Vegetable Protein. Extra wormhole turrets were removed from Verasi
O-7. Border Skirmish positional and targeting enhancements were made for
Teradon. The Mac version's gamma setting now uses the current gamma ramp as
the initial values instead of a linear gamma ramp. The Mac version should
no longer accept mouse or keyboard input if it is not the active
application.

[037] - whohas 0.23
  by philippwesche (http://freshmeat.net/users/philippwesche/)

System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: whohas is a command line tool that allows you to query several
package collections at once. It currently supports Arch Linux (and AUR),
Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, Mandriva, openSUSE, Slackware (and
linuxpackages.net), Source Mage Linux, Ubuntu, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD,
Fink, and MacPorts repositories. whohas was designed to help package
maintainers find ebuilds, pkgbuilds, and similar package definitions from
other distributions to learn from. However, it can also be used by normal
users who want to know which distribution provides certain packages, and
which version of a given package is in use in each distribution or in each
release of a distribution.

Changes: NetBSD, Debian, and Ubuntu now report sizes, and NetBSD also
reports dates. "--shallow" suppresses these fetches, which can be desirable
as they are time-consuming and exert server load. All of these new calls
are threaded by default, and can be disabled by "--no-threads", as with
previous features. This release warns if distributions specified are not
recognized, and LWP honors proxy settings. A Mandriva module has been
added.
