Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
Security

About: adsuck is a small DNS server that spoofs blacklisted addresses and
forwards all other queries. The idea is to be able to prevent connections
to undesirable sites such as ad servers, crawlers, etc. It can be used
locally, for the road warrior, or on the network perimeter in order to
protect local machines from malicious sites.

Changes: This release adds step-by-step instructions for installation.

Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Office/Business :: Scheduling
Software Development :: Bug Tracking

About: Agilefant is a backlog management system that can be used when
spreadsheets and most of the current issue tracking and project management
systems meet their limits. It is intended to be used with agile
methodologies that emphasize building releasable software in short, fixed
time periods, where features are commonly managed using "backlogs".

Changes: Usability and user interface improvements were done. Agilefant's
performance was also greatly improved. A handful of minor improvements and
bugfixes are included.

  by hbekel (http://freshmeat.net/users/hbekel/)
  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 20:50

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Bashrun provides a powerful application launcher by running a
specialized bash session in a small terminal window, conveniently providing
bash features like tab completion and history. Additional features include
user-configurable rules for automatically launching certain commands in a
new terminal window, looking up manual and info pages, performing dict and
Google queries, defining bookmarks for Web pages, or piping command output
to the clipboard. Users can add more functionality by defining arbitrary
rules for rewriting command lines based on regular expression matches and
file test operators. This makes new features like file associations or Web
shortcuts trivial to implement.

Changes: This release adds experimental support for vi-editing-mode. It
also fixes a bug that caused bashrun to launch more than one instance on
slower machines.

About: Bonita is a lightweight BPM product that runs on the Standard (JSE)
and Enterprise (JEE) Java platforms. Bonita provides an integrated
graphical environment for BPM development and execution environments, and
comprises three modules: a runtime, a runtime, and a designer. The runtime
allows processes to be deployed, executed, and monitored through a rich API
that provides BPM services. The console is a graphical Web-based interface.
The designer is a BPM development environment that allows graphical
definition of processes, as well as BPM connectors for integration with an
existing system.

Changes: Existing features available in 4.0 were consolidated and new
important features such asynchronous activities execution or BPM instance
cancel operation were added.

[006] - Claws Mail 3.7.1
  by Paul Mangan (http://freshmeat.net/users/daWB/)
  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 11:49

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Usenet News

About: Claws Mail is a GTK+ based, lightweight, and fast email client.
Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. It also has many
features such as multiple accounts, POP3/SMTP/IMAP/NNTP support, OpenSSL,
GnuPG, and LDAP support, a plugin system, spell checking, filtering,
Actions, spam and virus filters, an address book, internationalization, and
much more.

Changes: Spell checking has been added for the subject in the Compose
window. When replying to signed and/or encrypted mail and the preference to
sign and/or encrypt is set, the original mail's privacy system is
automatically used, if available. If a text/calendar attachment is present
in a message, it is automatically selected if a suitable plugin (i.e.
vCalendar) is available. The manual has been updated. The Brazilian
Portuguese, Czech, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Simplified
Chinese, Spanish, and Swedish translations were updated. Several bugs have
been fixed.

[008] - crpcut 0.4.0
  by Bjorn Fahller (http://freshmeat.net/users/rollbear/)
  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 11:55

Software Development :: Testing

About: crpcut is the Compartmented Robust Posix C++ Unit Test system.
crpcut (pronounced "Crap Cut") runs all test cases in their own process and
their own working directory, which makes it perfectly normal to test that
asserts do trap, and the test suite continues even in the event of an
unexpected SIGSEGV. By using the C99 preprocessor, and a few other C++0x
features long available in GCC, the tests are extremely easy to write.

Changes: The XML schema has changed to include in which phase a test case
a violation was detected (creating, running, destroying, or post-mortem).
The report on stdout defaults to a human readable format, while the report
to a file still defaults to XML. Changes were made in the way wrappers for
library functions are made. Test cases default to a two second realtime
deadline, to ensure that a test run terminates, even if a test case has an
inadvertent infinite loop.

[009] - depfinder 0.5
  by George Vlahavas (http://freshmeat.net/users/gapan/)
  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 00:59

Software Development :: Build Tools
Utilities

About: depfinder finds the dependencies of Zenwalk/Slackware packages and
outputs them in a comma separated list, as used in Zenwalk. The dependency
list can be output to stdout or to a .dep text file. depfinder is very
fast; its speed is mainly due to the C++ code that is used in depfinder to
find in which package each individual library is included. It also has
support for running multiple jobs, which makes it a lot faster when used
with multiple CPUs/cores. depfinder only uses ldd to look for dependencies,
so it won't detect dependencies for any kind of scripts (bash, Python,
etc.).

Changes: Libraries that are included in the package are excluded from the
dependency list.

[010] - evilvte 0.4.4
  by caleb (http://freshmeat.net/users/calebatfreshmeat/)
  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 13:34

Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: evilvte is a terminal emulator. It supports almost everything VTE
provides. It also supports tabs, automatic hiding of the tab bar, and the
ability to switch encoding at runtime. Configuration is done by editing the
source code and recompiling it. The size of a standard stripped binary of
evilvte is less than 9 kilobytes.

Changes: This release disables deprecated VTE functions if the VTE version
is 0.19.4 or higher (the latest VTE no longer supports
ANTI_ALIAS-associated options), supports CTRL_ALT (if you enable it, all
hotkeys will become Ctrl + Alt + hotkey), supports the commandline option
-f to start evilvte in fullscreen mode, and adds the new COLOR_STYLE option
VTE_FIXED (this is the default color setting of VTE with a fixed color).

[012] - glideinWMS 1_6
  by Igor Sfiligoi (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfiligoi/)
  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 01:00

Scientific/Engineering :: Physics
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: The purpose of the glideinWMS is to provide a simple way to access
the Grid resources. To achieve this without reinventing the wheel,
glideinWMS is a Glidein-based WMS (Workload Management System) that works
on top of Condor. Once setup, final users can submit regular Condor jobs to
the local queue and the glidein factory will provide the computing
resources behind the scenes. From the final user point of view, the Condor
pool just magically grows and shrinks as needed.

Changes: The main advantage of this version is the improved scalability of
the factory. The documentation has been significantly improved. A few minor
bugfixes are also present.

[013] - GNU tar 1.22 (Release)
  by Wojciech Polak (http://freshmeat.net/users/ghostface/)
  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 12:07

System :: Archiving :: Compression

About: GNU `tar' saves many files together into a single tape or disk
archive, and can restore individual files from the archive. It includes
multivolume support, the ability to archive sparse files, automatic archive
compression/decompression, remote archives and special features that allow
`tar' to be used for incremental and full backups. It also includes `rmt',
the remote tape server (the `mt' tape drive control program is in GNU
`cpio').

Changes: This release adds support for xz compression (with the --xz
option) and reassigns the short option -J as a shortcut for --xz. The
option -I is now a shortcut for --use-compress-program, and the
--no-recursive option works with --incremental.

About: KLone is a fully-featured, multi-platform framework which allows
dynamic Web pages to be written in C/C++ (with the usual <% code %>
style). The pages can then be embedded (in compressed and/or encrypted
form) into a single executable that also contains KLone's high-performance
HTTP/S server. Given its nature, it can be linked natively to any C/C++
library (database, XML, graphics, etc.), without an intermediate layer, and
it is especially suited for low-resource (embedded) systems.

[034] - Seismic ToolKit 0.67
  by Dominique Reymond (http://freshmeat.net/users/Reymond/)
  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 12:06

Education
Scientific/Engineering

About: Seismic Toolkit is a tool for processing and displaying seismic
signal data in a graphical interface. It reads seismic signals in SAC
format, and provides a variety of signal processing, such as filtering,
spectral analysis, polarisation analysis, time-frequency representation,
Hilbert transform, and singular value decomposition. Some utilities are
included for useful seismological applications, like computation of Seismic
Moment Mo, Mantle magnitude Mm and Moment magnitude Mw, MTPA spectral
analysis, plotting focal mechanisms, computation (and plotting) of
instrumental response from poles and zeros, and some usefull GMT (Generic
Mapping Tool) scripts for plotting signals, responses, and time-frequency
in Postscript files for high quality prints.

Changes: Reading of files was secured to avoid a crash when reading files
in the wrong format. A new version of MM_MAG is used, which takes into
account signal/noise ratio to avoid over-estimation of magnitudes for a
small S/N ratio. The validity of Mm is checked with the criterion of a
minimum signal/noise ratio. The minimum valid signal/noise ratio is defined
in the configuration file MM_mag_x_xx.ini.

[035] - Skwish 0.2.0
  by babak (http://freshmeat.net/users/babak_farhang/)
  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 01:21

Database
System :: Archiving

About: Skwish is a fast, simple, lightweight Java library for storing
blobs on the file system. It allows multiple concurrent readers and
writers, provides all-or-nothing write semantics, and is designed to
survive abnormal, unclean shutdown. Skwish is a structured implementation
of storing all blobs in a single file to save on file system I/O. Skwish is
premised on the proposition that blob storage ought to be orthogonal to the
task of indexing. It is meant to be a clean and simple store on which some
other index can be built.

Changes: This release includes a new stream-based push interface for entry
insertion. The immediate application here is for streaming output from a
SAX processor into skwish, but it's easy to imagine using it in other
scenarios (e.g. logging.) A new demo mashup program using Apache Lucene and
Tika is discussed in a new article in the "Getting Started" trail.

[036] - Talend Open Profiler 1.2.0M4 (Development)
  by S. Correia (http://freshmeat.net/users/scorreia/)
  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 18:30

Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Information Management :: Records Management

About: Talend Open Profiler (TOP) helps you to profile your data. TOP's
ergonomic interface allows you to define metrics (indicators) and collect
statistics on your data in a few clicks. It comes with a set of regular
expressions that helps you to identify bad data. You can create your own
regular expressions and use them in data profiling analyses. A lot of
options exist for each indicator, which change the behavior of the
indicator so that it gives you more pertinent information. Data quality
options on indicators alert you when your data quality is not what you
expected.

Changes: Cheat sheets for all kind of analyses, highlight null values, or
empty elements. Some indicators can now be computed in Java. Analyses can
be canceled. There are min and max indicators on date fields, as well as
user-defined data rules. Several bugs have been fixed.

[042] - Webtunnel 0.0.4

  Fri, Mar 6th 2009 18:28

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Security
System :: Networking

About: Webtunnel is a network utility that encapsulates arbitrary data in
HTTP and transmits it through a Web server. In that regard, it is similar
to httptunnel. However, its server component runs in the context of a Web
server as a CGI application (with optional FastCGI support), so it does not
need its own port. It supports most things that the Web server supports,
such as authentication, HTTP 1.1, HTTPS, and client certificates. It uses
simple requests and responses so it works seamlessly through forward and
reverse proxies.

Changes: This release adds an option to output log messages to a file
instead of STDERR. It has improved command line usage and includes a
verbose help option.
