System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities

About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for Linux (Gnome & KDE4)
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.

Changes: The translations were updated. The MainWindow and SettingsDialog
were reworked. "Smart" removal was added.

About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support, verification for digital signatures and text
extraction. Both variations offer full Unicode support, encryption,
embedded TrueType and Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, and spot and
calibrated color.

Changes: This release fixes a potential JavaScript security issue.
Customers are encouraged to upgrade, and can contact BFO directly for more
details. DataMatrix barcodes have been added. Support has been added for
"locking" annotations, both to the PDF API and to Viewer. There are fixes
for PDF/A to match PDF/A verification in Acrobat 9.

Documentation
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: The Big Faceless Report Generator is a Java application for
converting source documents written in XML to PDF. Built on top of the Big
Faceless PDF & Graph Libraries, the Report Generator combines these
features and wraps an XML parser around them. Using JSP, ASP, XSL, or
similar, creating dynamic PDF documents directly from a database is now as
easy as HTML.

Changes: The PDF library this release was built with contains a security
fix. This would only affect customers running the Report Generator 1.1.39
to 1.1.41 who are using the PDF Library API to complete forms in PDF
documents created by third parties. Those customers are encouraged to
upgrade. "datamatrix" has been added as a value for "type" in "barcode".
"overprint" has been added as a boolean attribute, to control overprinting
for text or graphics. Some wrapping issues that could occur when setting
"letter-spacing" have been fixed.

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: JiBX is a framework for binding XML data to Java objects. It lets
you work with data from XML documents using your own class structures. The
framework handles all the details of converting your data to and from XML
based on your instructions, and performs the translation between internal
data structures and XML with very high efficiency while still allowing you
a high degree of control over the translation process.

Changes: This release features greatly enhanced support for binding and
XML schema generation from Java code and for Java code and binding
generation from XML schema. Both forms of generation can easily be
customized in a variety of ways, including selecting only portions of
schemas to be generated as code. The code generation from schema also
allows for user decorators to be used to modify the Java code (in AST form)
as it's being generated. Also new to 1.2 is support for separately-compiled
bindings.

Internet
System
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: Keepalived for LVS aims to add a strong and robust keepalive
facility to the Linux Virtual Server project. This project is written in C
with multilayer TCP/IP stack checks. It implements a framework based on
three family checks: Layer3, Layer4, and Layer5. This framework gives the
daemon the ability of checking a LVS server pool states. When one of the
servers in the LVS server pool is down, keepalived informs the Linux kernel
via a setsockopt call to remove this server entry from the LVS topology. In
addition, it implements a VRRPv2 stack to handle director failover.

Changes: A regression brought by the previous release during low-level
scheduler timer computation was fixed. VRRP MII code was fixed to properly
test BMSR. VRRP script initialization was optimized.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: LEPL is a recursive descent parser library written in Python. It is
based on parser combinator libraries popular in functional programming, but
also exploits Python language features. Operators provide a friendly
syntax, and the consistent use of generators supports full backtracking and
resource management. Backtracking implies that a wide variety of grammars
are supported, but only LL(k) are guaranteed to terminate.

Changes: This release introduces several new features while keeping the
same basic syntax for grammars (expressed as Python code). These include:
evaluation via trampolining, which avoids any limits on recursion due to
the small Python stack; memoisation, allowing both packrat parsing (Norvig
1991) and left-recursive grammars (Frost and Hafiz 2006); matcher graph
rewriting, allowing manipulation of the grammar before parsing starts.

[030] - papyrus Canvas Library 0.10.1
  by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
  Thu, Mar 5th 2009 21:33

Artistic Software
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based

About: Papyrus is a 2D C++ scenegraph (canvas) library that utilizes the
cairo library to perform drawing operations. Similar canvas libraries are
the Gnome Canvas, Diacanvas, and the QT Canvas. Numerous canvas primitives
are available, including arcs, rectangles, polylines, and line markers. An
optional companion library, Papyrusmm, provides a set of Gtkmm widgets
which includes viewports (a canvas display widget similar to
Gtk::DrawingArea) and other UI widgets related to drawing interfaces.

Changes: This release contains a few minor changes to the handling of
events within the papyrus-gtkmm Viewport class. The drawable picking
example has also been updated and simplified to focus on how to perform
mouse-based selection. Other items include
Papyrus::Event::InterruptMarshaller to stop signal propagation on the first
true slot return value, Papyrus::Event::signal typedef to simplify the
declaration event signals with an interrupt marshaller, and
signal_event_papyrus() added to Viewport allowing connections to be made to
the Viewport papyrus events.

[032] - Primrose Game 3
  by Jason Rohrer (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcr13/)
  Thu, Mar 5th 2009 15:58

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games

About: Primrose is a game that presents a deep puzzle that is completely
fresh. Primrose's gameplay is deceptively simple: Surround tiles of one
color with another color to clear them. The surrounding tiles flip color,
leading to possible chain reactions. Larger groups cleared and longer chain
reactions are awarded more points. This simple setup has many interesting
emergent properties, creating a challenging game without resorting to
external gimmicks like time pressure. The game also features a world-wide
online high score board complete with instant replay, move-by-move, of all
top-scoring games.

Changes: This version rebalances the scoring formula and adds a more
robust mechanism for ending the game. These changes require the migration
to a fresh online high score server. This version also adds a fast button
for game replays.
