[001] - abcm2ps 4.8.2 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Mon, Nov 29th 2004 07:08

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: This release corrects some bugs affecting music layout.

[005] - Conary 0.11.6
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Mon, Nov 29th 2004 16:28

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: This release creates branches as changesets instead of via a
remote procedure call. The 'rdiff' and 'emerge' commands are fixed; they
were broken in 0.11.5 due to flavor changes. On the repository side, the
authentication database has been merged into the primary repository
database. A bug that prevented building some very large packages (running
out of open files) is also fixed. The 'cvc commit' command now has a
--no-source-check option to speed up commits.

[006] - Cpsed 0.4
  by Giuseppe Torelli (http://freshmeat.net/users/gt67/)
  Mon, Nov 29th 2004 04:11

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors

About: Cpsed is a Linux OpenGL 3D scene editor built with the Qt library.
It allows the user to import .3ds model files and to position, rotate, and
scale each of them. The 3ds loader also loads the textures in JPEG, BMP, or
TGA format. The DFF Renderware format is also supported. The save file
format is pure ASCII with comma separated values.

Changes: In this version, the window has a nice toolbar with pretty
icons. It is now possible to choose the insert point of the models when
just loaded instead of the default position (0,0,0). There is an
undo/redo ability. The camera position is saved with the scene and
restored when the scene is loaded. A default camera viewpoint can now be
set. When a model is deleted its name and ID now appear in the status
bar. There is now the ability to change the model's loading path before
saving the scene. The name of the current scene now appears in the
window title bar.

[007] - DataMonster 0.99.4
  by Darel Finkbeiner (http://freshmeat.net/users/darelf/)
  Mon, Nov 29th 2004 13:56

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: DataMonster is a d20 D&D command line management program written in
Python (there is a C++ version in CVS, but it is not currently being
developed). It provides an XP calculator, and access to monster
information in the 3.5 SRD. It is not yet feature complete. It uses
libxml2 and readline to provide many of its features.

Changes: Fixed the error on an empty line has been fixed. The XML document
has been updated from andargor.com. These now include	epic monsters and
give access to many more opportunities for the program. This release has
completely switched to XSLT for output of any monster info. There is a new
'browse' command that will open a Web browser for large, detailed sections.

[010] - DSPAM 3.2.3
  by Nuclear Elephant (http://freshmeat.net/users/jzdziarski/)
  Mon, Nov 29th 2004 08:13

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
Text Processing :: Filters

About: DSPAM is a server-side statistical anti-spam agent for Unix email
servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and
effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques,
specialized algorithms, and statistical analysis. The result is an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. DSPAM has
yielded real-world success rates beyond 99.9% accuracy with less than a
0.01% chance of false positives.

Changes: The following bugs were fixed: DSPAM misreads the boundary
delimiter in signed Apple.Mail messages. The signature is not written to
multipart blocks with no content type. dspam_dump fails with MySQL 4.1.
Bayesian Noise Reduction is never instantiated.

About: ElvinRRD is a tool to allow the transportation of data across a
network, to be stored in an RRD database. It is written entirely in
Python, and works with (and requires) both Elvin and RRDtool. Any Elvin
producer/client can send data for ElvinRRD to store (e.g. EDDIE-Tool),
and any RRD- aware software can process the resulting RRD databases.

Changes: This release uses the more common py-rrdtool and adds more
configuration entries for users to play with.

[013] - FAQtor 0.6
  by Phil Schwartz (http://freshmeat.net/users/phil_schwartz/)
  Mon, Nov 29th 2004 11:01

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: FAQtor is a script that generates customizable FAQs from a simple
XML input file. FAQtor makes it easy for all Web sites to include a FAQ
because it takes the tedious nature out of it. There is no longer any need
to manually edit the FAQ and update links to answers. After initial
(optional) customization, all that is necessary when updating a FAQ is to
update the XML input file and re-run FAQtor. The XML file contains all of
the information necessary to create a professional looking FAQ.

  Mon, Nov 29th 2004 06:05

Desktop Environment :: GNUstep
Software Development

About: GNUstep is a cross-platform, object oriented environment composed
of frameworks, tools, and servers (daemons). It is very similar to the
Cocoa frameworks from Apple, and tries to maintain compatibility with
Cocoa wherever it is desired and possible. The frameworks provide classes
for containers, distributed objects, object archiving, file management,
text system, font management, image composition, WYSIWYG PostScript
graphics, and more.

Changes: The startup time of the pasteboard server was reduced from few
seconds to immediate. Help for the gdomap tool was fixed. An NSConnection
bugfix and performance fixes were made. New methods and fixes were added
in NSBundle. Notification center server fixes were made on BSD. A new
property list tool was added, called "pl" (similar to the tool in OSX).
Fixes were made in main menu handling and cell sizing. Application icon
handling was improved. Table view, typesetter, and window fixes were made.
Encoding improvements were made in the GUI classes.

  Mon, Nov 29th 2004 20:29

Communications
Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Conferencing

About: GYach Enhanced is a feature-rich, improved version of the original
Gyach. It is the first Yahoo! client for Linux with voice chat
capabilities. It offers almost all of the features you would expect to
find in the official Windows Yahoo! client. The program offers support for
chat, conferences, buddy lists, and My Yahoo content. In addition, Gyach
Enhanced offers many features not available in the official Yahoo! clients
for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Webcam support is under development and
planned for the future. Unlike the original Gyach, GYach Enhanced is
designed for Linux only.

Changes: Support has been added for longer status messages and XMMS plugin
messages. Several bugs related to large buddy lists, cookies, faders, and
Yahoo address books have been fixed. Handling of Yahoo news alerts has
improved, and a news alerts status message has been added. Error
notification, performance, and font rendering have been improved. A list
of Yahoo links has been added to the Help menu, and new content is
available on the My Yahoo tab.

its process id. It requires ncurses, and was tested with Linux 2.4 and
2.6.

Changes: New features include a tree view for the process list, display
options (more visual configurability: ability to hide kernel threads,
shadow other users' processes, etc.), vastly improved support for
monochromatic terminals, and more. Keyboard input on 64-bit machines was
fixed. Problems when saving configuration file were fixed. Other fixes

not in the cache, it will simultaneously download the file and stream it
to multiple clients. No matter how many machines request the same file,
only one copy comes down the Internet pipe. This is very useful for
maintaining a cache of Debian or Gentoo packages.

Changes: This release adds some great new features like cache browsing and
client-side range support. A major redesign in code gives slightly faster
operation under reduced load.

  Mon, Nov 29th 2004 20:31

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Archiving
System :: Logging

About: NEPM monitors and reports uptime, critical events and their
predecessors, access rates, bytes-served rates, and error rates for
network node equipment. Hardware and software elements within the nodes
are tracked and reported separately to make possible rapid fault
isolation. It is a very general, highly configurable, two-part software
system that captures and analyzes logged performance data from
IP-networked equipment and reports it via email and Web pages. Current
conditions and history from systems based on Windows NT/2000, Unix, and
Unix-style operating systems can be tracked and reported. Most major
server, switch and router systems can be monitored, without running agents
on the target systems. NEPM itself is system-independent and can be hosted
on either a Unix or Win NT system or a combination of these with equal
ease.

[084] - Wi.Ser Beta 0.5.9
  by dvdw (http://freshmeat.net/users/dvdw/)

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Wi.Ser is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables an
application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server Swing
app, or as a Web app without any change. It includes a mixed deployment
mode, which supports one server to serve Swing clients and Web clients at
the same time. The framework uses XML to define an application's GUI. It
provides a common widget-based, object-oriented programming interface for
Web and Swing GUIs, which prevents the developer from struggling with HTML
and HTTP or with the internals of Swing. For Swing client/server
applications the client/server split as well as the client/server
communication is handled transparently by the framework. The project
includes a GUI builder that is based on the framework's functionality
(screenshot, deployed as a Web/HTML application).

Changes: This release fixes the positioning errors caused by the HTML
template kits for Mozilla. The "jumping content" problem in Mozilla has
been corrected. A new widgetBorder tag in GUI-builder has been added, and
the HTML tree-view widget's multiple selection support has been enhanced.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards

About: WowBB is an innovative bulletin board with features including an
auto install/upgrade, a WYSIWYG editor with integrated spell-checker,
automatic time zone detection, smart caching, a visual CSS editor with
real-time preview, users selectable by location, and search engine
friendly URLs. It can read and write the database formats of Invision
Board, phpBB, UBB.Threads, and vBulletin.

Changes: The visited topics information is now stored in the database
instead of as cookies. As a result, regardless of the computer or Web
browser you use, the topics you previously visited will always be
remembered. Other new features include significantly faster homepage load
times on busy boards and increased PHP 5 compatibility.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: Data sections are supported as input. Service callers support
call configuration objects. There are various bugfixes. Performance,
logging, and exception handling are improved.

About: Zapmail is an e-mail synchronizer. It allows the user to store two
copies of their e-mail, modify both copies (for example, by reading mail
on a laptop or having new mail arrive on a server), and then merge the
changes when the two machines are online again, so that both copies are up
to date. It works well over low-bandwidth connections and on machines with
slow hard drives.
