Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards
About: AudienceConnect is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution for
independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. Demo site content is plain text, but AudienceConnect can be
extended to deliver any digital content: sound files, image files, etc.
Installation is very simple; no database technologies are used. The
related modules are completely independent and require only access to
Python 1.5.2 in your cgi-bin.
Changes: Previous quick-fixes to handling of IPN calls and the IPN log

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript. This means that the
process of converting the input string into the printed output is
performed by the printer itself, avoiding the need to re-implement the
barcode generation process whenever your language needs change. The
project supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8,
UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128-B, Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 2 of 5, and
Codabar.
Changes: Efficiency was improved by adding the bind operator to procedure
definitions to make use of early operator resolution.

About: MiniBill is recurring billing software to hopefully create a
contender for some of the "Modern Billing" software that is out there. The
goal is to keep it pluggable, small, and affordable. It can be used as a
fulfilment and inventory to a shopping cart system, or for a Web hosting
billing solution.
Changes: This release adds order groups order modification in accounts.
Billing cron now works. Category templates are now in the database. There
is sample data in the SQL structure. You can edit users. A new support
forum has been introduced.

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
About: MuseSig is an email signature generator. The script takes an ID
file (your contact information) and combines it with a quote taken from a
local collection of quotes to produce a new signature file. Command line
options allow selection of output file, the format to use (one of two
types), and various other options. Quote files are plain text and new
quotes can be added just by adding a new file to the quote directories.
Changes: This release adds a missing Makefile to automate building of the
RPM. The form2 output was fixed to add the missing line separator between
signature and quote.

About: NNTPSwitch is a Linux NNTP content router. It's aimed at
high-performance news servers for ISPs and Usenet resellers. NNTPSwitch
forwards client connections to multiple backend servers to get its actual
articles. Depending on the backend server type, all NNTP commands and
extensions are supported, including (remote) authorization. Accounting is
supported in a user-friendly matter for data limited NNTP connections.
Changes: This release adds a lot of different features, including
rate-limits on a user or virtualhost basis, LDAP authorization, and RRD
statistics support. A few necessary NNTP protocol enhancements are
created, like the retrieving of articles on Message-Id.

[035] - NotNet Profiler 0.5.0
by CrypTom (http://freshmeat.net/users/cryptom/)
Tue, Nov 30th 2004 20:46
System :: Boot
System :: Networking
About: The NotNet (Notebook Network) Profiler lets you specify a Linux
kernel boot parameter, then loads the chosen network scheme and starts
chosen services (any init script). When logging in, a PAM module changes
the browser's proxy configuration according to the current network
scheme.
Changes: Service handling has been improved, so that every init script
can be managed by NotNet now, and supported services are no longer
hardcoded. The default scheme can be changed with the parameter
"default_scheme". In addition to Opera and Mozilla, Firefox and
Konqueror's proxy configuration can be managed by NotNet, too.
README.grub has been added in order to show how to easily manage multiple
schemes with grub. The NotNet Profiler no longer depends on Debian's
invoke-rc.d and update-rc.d scripts, so a major step to support other
distributions has been made.

Tue, Nov 30th 2004 13:54

pure::variants is completely model-based. It uses feature models for
variability and commonality modeling. It supports creation, management,

It includes a model transformer, which permits the creation of product
variants directly from customizable components.
Changes: This release is based on Eclipse 3.0 and provides many
enhancements to the graphical user interface, such as model-aware search,
feature matrix view or in place editing of restrictions, and attributes

computer players (third-party programs, e.g. GNU Go) and other humans,
and view and edit game records. It supports SGF and uses the GTP to
communicate with game- playing engines.
Changes: Text search in comments was implemented. This can be invaluable
when browsing through a very large game tree like a joseki dictionary or a
GNU Go debug trace. Displaying of SGF labels was substantially improved; in
particular, there are no more black labels on black stones. Two toolbars

Tue, Nov 30th 2004 08:45
Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: User Interfaces
About: SOFIA is a model-view controller framework that brings web
application development functionality similar to ASP Dot Net Web Forms to
the Java developer. Whereas most Java Web frameworks focus on only one or
two aspects of the MCV design pattern and provide little or no development
tool support, SOFIA focuses on making Web developers immediately more
productive and so provides a complete end-to-end solution right out of the
box.
Changes: A browser-based "rich client" UI can now be built without applets
or complex javascript by using SOFIA's new DHTML components for things such
as: drop down calendars, calculators and search boxes, scrolling data
grids, nested reports with row folding, nav bars, trees, tables, and
calendars. SOFIA's GUI components can now be used to build a front end for
a Hibernate domain model. SOFIA's built-in search and data entry components
allow Hibernate developers to build search, list, and detail pages with
little or no code.

About: X-Plane is a flight simulator that reads in the geometric shape of
any aircraft and then figures out how that aircraft will fly. It does this
via an engineering process called "blade element theory", which involves
breaking the aircraft down into many small elements and then finding the
forces on each little element many times per second. These forces are then
converted into accelerations, which are then integrated to velocities and
positions. This gives X-Plane the most realistic flight model available
