Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Active Calendar is a PHP class that generates calendars (month or
year view) as HTML tables (XHTML-Valid). It can produce static calendars
without any links or calendars with navigation controls, a date picker
control, event days with event URLs, and linkable days (optionally URL or
Javascript). The layout can be configured using CSS, and JavaScript is not
required. The supported dates (on systems using a 32-bit signed integer
Unix time_t) are: 1902-2037 (Unix) and 1971-2037 (Windows), when using the
default PHP native date functions, and 100-3000 and later, when using the
ADOdb Date Library.

Changes: A bug that prevented the generated HTML code from being 100%
XHTML valid was fixed.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio

About: amaroK is the audio player for KDE. It supports many multimedia
frameworks (like GStreamer, XINE, and aRts) to play music media and
streams, and features a fresh and efficient approach to playlist handling.
The emphasis is on the quick and easy user interface, allowing for fast
access to the media library.

Changes: The Cover Manager now handles image downloads correctly, and has
been made more stable. The Visualizations menu works again. Database
scanning is faster due to multithreading. Support for Audioscrobbler has
been enhanced with queued transfer and UTF-8 encoding. New features
include a flat view mode for the collection, and an integrated amaroK
sidebar for Konqueror.

[004] - Andy's Simple PHP Knowledgebase 0.37
  by KeyMonkey (http://freshmeat.net/users/keymonkey/)
  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 20:44

About: Andy's Simple PHP Knowledgebase is a database-driven knowledge base
management system. It features bookmark friendly URLs, easy search with
browsing by category, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.

Changes: This release has a minor name change in the documentation,
"suggest a category" for users, and category add/approve/ delete/edit for
the KB Admin. It adds the ability for users to add comments, and for the
comments to be approved/ edited/deleted by the KB Admin. It also includes
a basic editor (Bold/Underline/Italics) for article submissions.

[005] - Autofs NG 0.4
  by mwaychison (http://freshmeat.net/users/mwaychison/)
  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 20:43

System :: Filesystems

About: Autofs NG is a Linux automounter that is intended to be completely
interoperable with autofs implementations on other Unix platforms. As
such, it supports some features that the current Linux automounters do
not. This includes direct mounts, /net (--hosts access), lazy mounting and
unmounting of hierarchical multimounts, and browsing. Autofsng also
supports the usual indirect map support available elsewhere. Maps are
supported from flat files, executable maps, NIS maps, NIS+ maps, LDAP
maps, and hesiod (DNS) filsys namespace.

Changes: This release brings a couple fixes, the most relevant being that
automounting is now an interruptible process (you can now ctrl-c out of a
hung automount). Several other bugs have also been squashed, including
the expiry of huge (>1024 entries) multimounts and two kernel memory
leaks related to browsing. As well, this release adds the capability of
having more than one NFS mount use a single TCP/UDP stream, thereby
getting rid of the 800 NFS mount limit many people run into.

Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript. This means that the
process of converting the input string into the printed output is
performed by the printer itself, avoiding the need to re-implement the
barcode generation process whenever your language needs change. The
project supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8,
UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128-B, Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 2 of 5, and
Codabar.

Changes: Documentation is now available in PDF and HTML formats. The
orignal .tex files are shipped in the tarball.

[007] - Codestriker 1.8.5

  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 00:44

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development
Software Development :: Bug Tracking

About: Codestriker is a Web application that supports online code reviews.
Traditional document reviews are supported, as well as reviewing diffs
generated by an SCM (Source Code Management) system and plain unidiff
patches. There are integration points with CVS, Subversion, Clearcase,
Perforce, Visual SourceSafe, and Bugzilla. There is a plug-in architecture
for supporting other SCMs and issue tracking systems. It minimizes paper
work, ensures that issues, comments, and decisions are recorded in a
database, and provides a comfortable workspace for actually performing
code inspections. An optional highly-configurable metrics subsystem allows
you to record code inspection metrics as a part of your process.

Changes: Visual SourceSafe repositories are now supported, both in the
generation of topics of already committed code, and by generating the
topic text with the ssdiff.pl script for uncommitted code. It is now
possible to obsolete topics with a new topic. The program records and
displays obsolete links so that follow-up reviews can show what reviews
they superseed. Subversion repositories can now be configured with a
username and password in the configuration file if authentication is
required. A number of other minor bugfixes and enhancements were also
included.

Information Management :: Issue Tracking

About: Construction Management Software is a solution for builders and
construction groups to manage construction projects. It lets your clients
stay up to date on their projects online. You can create a project, add
tasks and clients, log in and can place comments on each task, and view
estimated completion dates and the status of each task. You can export a
project to a spread sheet for reporting or to create a status report to
take to the job site.

Changes: The code comments were cleaned up. The download file size was
reduced to under 100k. Some very minor bugfixes were made.

[009] - CRM114 Discriminator 20041209
  by Crah the Merciless (http://freshmeat.net/users/wsymerlcom/)
  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 07:30

Communications :: Email
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: CRM114 is a Controllable Regex Mutilator and Smart Filter, designed
for easy creation of filters for things like incoming email redirection,
spam filtering, system logs, or monitoring processes. Filtering rules can
be either hard-coded (such as regexes), soft-coded (calculated at runtime
or read from an external file or process), or learned dynamically by
phrase matching (by SBPH hashing or Markovian matching, or Winnowing).
This makes it possible to create very accurate filters with very little
actual work. Accuracies over 99.9% are achievable.

Changes: This version includes the highest-accuracy voodoo OSBF
classifier. Most of the new OSBF upgrades were rolled back into OSB,
including the microgroom algorithm and CF factor, so Monkeyplexer can use
these in N-way classifications. CALL/RETURN now work less unintuitively
(and have actual call/return arguments). SYSCALL can now fork the local
process with very low overhead, which is excellent for daemons that spawn
a new instance for each connection. WINDOW now has BYCHUNK for fast block
IO. The FEATURECOUNT bug and a few others were fixed.

About: Csvtosql is a library and tool to convert any CSV-based data. It
accepts multiple data formats (such as CSV, Excel, or arrays), converts it
into SQL statements, and writes the data back in multiple formats
(textfile, database).

Changes: startrow/stoprow support was added to the

Communications :: Email
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: CVSspam sends email when a change is committed to the CVS
repository. Syntax-highlighted diffs describe the changes made, and links
to Web frontends on CVS and bug tracking systems are generated where
possible.

Changes: The release prevents a lone dot ('.') on a line in the log
comment breaking notification mail, and log comments entered on a Mac
sometimes breaking the subject header. New options were added to control
when and if diffs are included in the message, and a few other minor bugs
were fixed.

[012] - Cyber Socket Server 1.0
  by Cyberlot (http://freshmeat.net/users/cyberlot/)
  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 12:17

Communications :: Chat

About: Cyber Socket Server is a PHP-based socket server supporting a
module expansion API. Out of the box, it acts as a generic XML socket
server that should work with any program that needs a socket server for
operation. A fully functional chatroom module is included as a true
example of what can be done with this server. Supporting features like
login/password, guest logins, banning, ignoring, and most recently
multi-room support, it provides a good framework for understanding flash
and PHP interaction.

Changes: Minor bugfixes. Settings have been added for the database login
table. Spam and dupe checking to help keep the chat room clean.

About: DSPAM is a server-side statistical anti-spam agent for Unix email
servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and
effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques,
specialized algorithms, and statistical analysis. The result is an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. DSPAM has
yielded real-world success rates beyond 99.9% accuracy with less than a
0.01% chance of false positives.

Changes: A development bug which caused some messages to fail in

[015] - FAQtor 0.7
  by Phil Schwartz (http://freshmeat.net/users/phil_schwartz/)
  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 20:45

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: FAQtor is a script that generates customizable FAQs from a simple
XML input file. FAQtor makes it easy for all Web sites to include a FAQ
because it takes the tedious nature out of it. There is no longer any need
to manually edit the FAQ and update links to answers. After initial
(optional) customization, all that is necessary when updating a FAQ is to
update the XML input file and re-run FAQtor. The XML file contains all of
the information necessary to create a professional looking FAQ.

Changes: The XML input file can now contain HTML tag delimiters. Prior
versions required the HTML tag brackets to be replaced with entities.
This version will now replace these brackets with the entities before
parsing the XML. This should make FAQ generation less tedious for the end
user.

with user-defined request bodies. It retrieves the HTTP response headers
and body data separately. It handles cookies and automatic redirection
handling.

Changes: Proxy authentication support was added using the SASL client
library to implement the most common authentication mechanisms, such as
HTTP Basic and NTLM (Windows or Samba).

  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 20:36

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: LLVM is a compiler infrastructure designed for compile-time,
link-time, runtime, and "idle-time" optimization of programs from
arbitrary programming languages. It currently supports compilation of C
and C++ programs, using front-ends derived from gcc 3.4. There is a
demonstration front end, Stacker, which provides a simple forth-like
language. Work is currently under way to provide a Java class file, .NET
CLI, and other significant improvements.

Changes: This release provides a fully-functional PowerPC JIT compiler.
The C/C++ front-end can emit debug info with -g usable in the LLVM
debugger (llvm-db). A new `unreachable' instruction was added for
signifying CFG effects of no-return functions such as abort() and exit().
A new `undef' value was added for representing uninitialized values and
operations on them. llvm-ranlib can index bytecode files. llvmc is a
feature-complete compiler driver. Visual Studio project files are now
provided for building with Visual C++. Improvements were made in X86 and

About: My Handy Restaurant is software created to help restaurant waiters
and managers in their job. Waiters can choose a restaurant table, assign
orders to it and have them automatically printed on printers. "Normal"
dishes can also be modified, by adding or removing ingredients. Bills
can be printed automatically, even for separated bills. The accounting
section allows a restaurant manager to easily administrate the whole
accounting (bank accounts, employees, suppliers, income) in an easy way.
Stock management is also available, and items quantity is automatically
updated. The interface is handheld-sized and is written to be compatible
with most handheld  browsers.

Changes: Many optimizations were made thanks to a SQL code improvement and
a new internal caching system. Indonesian and Romanian translations were
added. New features made the admin zone more usable. The waiters zone now
has keyboard shortcuts and displays the time elapsed since printing to
track customer waiting times. There were also many bugfixes.

  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 07:18

Software Development :: Libraries

About: RLog provides a flexible message logging facility for C++ programs
and libraries. It is subscription based, meaning you can subscribe to
messages of your choice in an number of ways: by hierarchical channel
name (e.g. "debug", "debug/ special", "error", etc.), or filename,
component name, etc. Log messages are individually enabled. It is meant
to be fast enough to leave in production code - even where it may be
called many times, as both the GCC and Intel compilers reduce the logging
overhead a few clock cycles if they are dormant (with no subscribers).
Other add-on components can extend subscriptions to external programs,
allowing you to enable and collect debugging messages remotely.

Changes: An uninitialized "info" channel was fixed along with build
problems under FreeBSD and Mac OS X.

About: Sedsed is a Python script that masters sed scripts. It generates
sed debug files in sed, which lets you debug scripts with your own version
of sed (Linux, DOS, etc.). It's also a script beautifier, doing indentation
and spaces/comments formatting. It can also convert sed scripts to colorful
HTML files.

Changes: This version marks a quality jump on the debugger. Now it
generates less code (~40% less) and is faster than the previous version.
Portability problems were also solved, now it will work in Unix and other
older sed versions. There is a new --dump-debug option useful to inspect

[075] - StarPlot 0.95.1
  by Kevin McCarty (http://freshmeat.net/users/kmccarty/)
  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 20:05

Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy

About: StarPlot is a GTK-based program, written in C++, which can be used
interactively to view three-dimensional perspective charts of stars.
Charts can be recentered, rotated, or zoomed in or out with a mouse click
(this can also, of course, be done via dialog boxes for more precision).
Stars may be viewed (or ignored) by spectral class and absolute magnitude.
Other features include support for both celestial and galactic coordinate
systems, the ability to display extended non-stellar objects, and a pop-up
Hertzsprung-Russell diagram. StarPlot is also packaged with starconvert, a
utility which converts line-oriented stellar data records to StarPlot
format. Most star data files available on the Internet can be converted
this way if a short file describing the original file format is provided
to starconvert.

Changes: This is a bugfix release that improves support for older
compilers (g++ 2.95) and older versions of GTK+ 2. The Spanish
translation is now es.po instead of es_ES.po, so will also work with
Latin American locales.

  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 12:34

Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.

Changes: This release adds support for obfuscating dynamic JavaScript
inside string constants that are arguments of "print-like" method calls in
client-side JavaScript or in any server-side language. Support for
protecting projects containing an arbitrarily large number of files has
been added. Exceptions for WMI have been added. Support for JSP files has
been improved. A lot of other improvements have been introduced.

About: No more loop tweaking! SweepOver is a Python script that makes the
exploration of a model by numerical simulations easier and faster. It
scans the arguments that a given executable expects and lets the user
enter all the parameters; for one of them, the user also enters a maximum
value. The script then takes care of sweeping over that parameter,
averages the values output by the executable, computes the standard error,
and writes everything in a file whose name contains all the parameters.

Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games

About: T^3 ("T-cubed") is the 3-D extrapolation of the widely popular
puzzle-arcade game, Tetris. Whereas the objective of the classical Tetris
game was to arrange falling pieces into horizontal lines, the objective of
T^3 is to form square surfaces.

Changes: The project was moved to the Eclipse platform. A major code
refactor was undertaken, a "rainbow" color scheme was adopted for pieces
and blocks, landed blocks belonging to the same surface are now drawn in
the same color, playing field posts now indicate dead surfaces, "dead"
surfaces are no longer drawn in different colors, and the starfield code
was updated to only use a single pattern. Background falling pieces were
added, the scoreboard textures were updated, the surface removal animation
was updated, and full-screen mode is now the default. Animation speeds were
tweaked.

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Wcal is a Web-based calendar and planner especially suitable for
multi-user setups in an intranet. It features the ability for several
users to have their own or shared calendars, read-only views, Weekly and
monthly repeating events. It uses the Web server's access control methods,
and allows a separate access control definition for each user.

Changes: This release introduces the concept of duration for repeated
events. A repeated event can start at one date, stop at another date, and
be disabled for certain dates. A new "Goto..." view has been added to go
directly to a chosen day. There are some more bugfixes and changes.

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: Weplab is a tool to review the security of WEP encryption in
wireless networks from an educational point of view. Several attacks are
available, so it can measure the effectiveness and minimum requirements of
each one. Currently, weplab supports several methods, and it is able to
crack the WEP key from 600,000 encrypted packets.

Changes: This release fixes a bug with those WEP keys which have a 0xFF
byte value, a bug that made Weplab show the wrong BSSID with --analyze,
and a problem with --ascii in bruteforce attack. There is now a manual
page. Minor bugs were fixed related to console printed messages.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: XmlBlaster is XML based MOM (Message oriented Middleware) with a
lot of features. It is a publish/subscribe and point-to-point MOM server
which exchanges XML-encoded messages. Communication with the server is
based on CORBA (using JacORB), RMI, XML-RPC, native socket, or a
persistent HTTP plugin. Subscribers can use XPath expressions to filter
the messages they wish to receive and add their own MIME-based filter
plugins. C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, VisualBasic.net, C#, and PHP client
demos are included in the xmlBlaster test suite, and Tcl and Python demo
clients are scheduled. XmlBlaster also provides a browser callback
framework, allowing browsers (Netscape, Mozilla, MSIE) to receive instant
callbacks over a persistent http connection. A security plugin framework
allows authentication/authorization in many ways. Currently there are
LDAP- and passwd-based plugins available.

[088] - YACY Proxy 0.31
  by Michael Christen (http://freshmeat.net/users/Orbiter/)
  Thu, Dec 9th 2004 07:17

Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: YACY is a distributed Web crawler and also a caching HTTP/HTTPS
proxy. Pages that pass through the proxy are indexed and can be searched
using a built-in HTTP server. YACY peers connect each other and form a
P2P-based index exchange network based on distributed hash tables.
Explicit web crawls can be done locally or collaboratively, forming a
global search and distributed indexing engine for the Web. It also
provides URL filtering with blacklist sharing among other proxy peers,
individual Web/servlet page hosting, a file sharing zone, and a database
engine.

Changes: A URL filter was integrated for crawl jobs and search requests
and a bug that caused sudden termination when an invalid URL was crawled
was fixed. Indexing speed was greatly enhanced by the implementation of an
additional word index cache. A button for deleting or emptying the crawl
URL stack was added.
