[001] - Abandoned Bricks 1.12
by Milan Babuskov (http://freshmeat.net/users/mbabuskov/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 00:32
Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games
About: Abandoned Bricks is a Tetris clone where bricks of various shapes
fall from the top and you can move and arrange them to fit nicely on the
bottom. When you fill a line without holes it is removed from the heap. It
can be played either in a single-player or in a duel-mode with two players
playing hotseat on the same computer. There is also a Bastet mode, based
on the Bastet game by Federico Poloni.
Changes: An option to configure keys, new Challenge and Bastet game modes,
and a new shadow drop marker that shows where a brick would land.

About: The ActiveBPEL engine is a robust runtime environment capable of
executing process definitions created according to the Business Process
Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS, or just BPEL) 1.1
specifications.
Changes: This version includes an updated Axis library (1.2 RC2) and
remote debugging improvements. A literal variable assignment problem with
older Xerces implementations was fixed. An SQL bug was fixed when
searching for active processes with a filter. A problem where the
directory scanner would not wait for the delay interval if an exception
was encountered during a scan has been fixed. The demo app build.xml adds
wsdl4j.jar to run.classpath.

Information Management
Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale
About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128-B, Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2 of 5, and
Codabar.
Changes: Incorrect generation of human-readable check digits for the ISBN
encoder was fixed and the documentation was updated with an example of use
from within Perl.

[012] - C++ Regex Engine 0.02a
by unr_stuart (http://freshmeat.net/users/unr_stuart/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 23:42
Text Processing
About: C++ Regex Engine provides a robust regular expression library for
use in C++. The syntax of the regular expression language is very close to
the Perl 5 standard. The classes given somewhat mirror those found in
Java's regular expression library, but have several improvements. The
intended audience of this package is anyone who does a lot of data parsing
(e.g. sysadmins), people tired of trying to decipher Perl scripts, and
regular expression beginners who know C++. Some knowledge of the STL's
vector and string will come in handy, but isn't necessary.
Changes: This release features minor bugfixes and code clean-ups. The
Matcher class' *getGroups* now correctly leaves out capture group zero
upon request. It now makes all use of the STL prefixed by std:: instead
of having a "using namespace std;" at the beginning of the CPP files.

by Achim Westermann (http://freshmeat.net/users/achimwestermann/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 11:05
Communications
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: cpdetector is a small yet clever framework for codepage detection
that integrates different strategies. It may be used as a library for
third party software that accesses textual data over network. It also
includes a best-practice implementation in form of a command line tool
that allows sorting and transforming large collections of documents based
on their codepage. Available strategies include: jchardet (exclusion,
frequency analysis, and guessing), detection of the HTML charset property,
and detection of the XML encoding declaration.
Changes: It is now possible let cpdetector guess the codepage out of the
remaining possibilities when it is not possible to narrow down this set to
one. This version marks the start of testing with FIT. A new best practice
command line tool allows printing of the codepage name for file arguments.

[016] - darcs 1.0.1
by David Roundy (http://freshmeat.net/users/droundy/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 06:24
Software Development :: Version Control
About: Darcs is an advanced revision control system along the lines of CVS
or arch. It has two particularly distinctive features which differ from
other revision control systems: each copy of the source is a fully
functional branch, and underlying it is a consistent and powerful theory
of patches. In spite of its power, darcs is simple to use, in part because
of the symmetry that is restored by making each copy of the repository a
branch.
Changes: Numerous bugs were fixed in this release. Most of the bugs are
minor, but there was one bug in version 1.0.0 and earlier which has the
potential to cause repository corruption, so it is strongly recommended
that all users upgrade. There is an explanation of the issues related to
this bug on the darcs wiki.

[017] - ddrescue 0.8
by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 06:08
System :: Recovery Tools
About: ddrescue copies data from one file or block device (hard disk,
CD-ROM, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue data in case of read
errors. It does not truncate the output file if not asked to. So every
time you run it on the same output file, it tries to fill in the gaps.
The basic operation of ddrescue is fully automatic. That is, you don't
have to wait for an error, stop the program, read the log, run it in
reverse mode, etc. And with the bad blocks file feature, you can interrupt
the rescue at any time and resume it later at the same point. The
algorithm will: read the non-damaged part of the disk, skipping the
damaged areas; try to read the damaged areas, splitting them into smaller
pieces and reading the non-damaged pieces until the specified number of
retries is reached, or until interrupted by the user; optionally, write a
list of bad blocks to a file for later use.
Changes: The new "no-split" option has been added to achieve a fast
recovery of the undamaged part of the file by disabling the splitting of
damaged areas.

[018] - DictEm 0.0.3
by Aleksey Cheusov (http://freshmeat.net/users/vle/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 11:14
About: DictEm is a dict client for GNU Emacs. It uses a console dict
client and implements all functions of the client part of tje DICT
protocol (RFC-2229), e.g. looking up words and definitions, obtaining a
list of available strategies etc. Unlike dictionary.el, it widely uses
autocompletion that is used for selecting a dictionary and search
strategy. It provides several hooks that may be used for buffer
postprocessing. Built-in hyperlinking and a highlighting mechanism are
based on this ability. It supports accessing virtual dictionaries. With
DictEm functions, a user can easily extend its functionality.
Changes: This release has been ported to XEmacs. Virtual dictionaries can
access databases from different DICT servers. The following commands can
be run non-interactively: dictem-run-show-info, dictem-run-search, and
dictem-run-define.

allows any program to read and save its configuration with a consistent
API, and allows them to be aware of other applications' configurations,
permitting easy application integration. While architecturally similar to

more precise integration with X.org, instead of having to parse,

by Gavin Brown (http://freshmeat.net/users/Jodrell/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 05:11
Desktop Environment
About: PerlPanel is an attempt to build a useable, lean panel program
(like Gnome's gnome-panel and KDE's Kicker) in Perl, using GTK 2. It has
an object-oriented design for easy customisation and extension, and an
applet architecture that means that you can create an applet in a matter
of minutes.
Changes: This release adds proper calendaring functions to the Clock
applet. A new DriveManager applet makes it easy to mount, unmount, and
eject removable media devices. You now can specify the panel size in
pixels instead of named sizes, and the panel can be set not to "expand",
and instead will be centered on the window edge. Unicode support has been
improved for .desktop files, and translated strings are used in the GNOME
menu when available. You can drag and drop launcher icons to and from the
panel. A large number of bugfixes and optimizations have been made.

[061] - PHP Personal Movie Database 0.4
by Numa (http://freshmeat.net/users/numa/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 23:39
Database :: Front-Ends
About: PMDB (PHP Personal Movie Database) lets you organise
(add/edit/delete) and display your movies list (DVD, DIVX, SVCD, VCD,
etc.). Features include the ability to retrieve information (title,
director, poster, etc.) from IMDB, to display a poster of the movie on
mouseover, and more.
Changes: This release features the new fields language and international
title (in case the original title is not English). There are many fixes.
There is now the choice of field sorting through Javascript, so that
there is no need to reload/request the server again to change sorting. It
now defaults to sorting by most recent entries first.

[062] - Pin Dynamic Instrumentation Tool 2.0.10
by muth (http://freshmeat.net/users/muth/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 11:33
Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Pin is an ATOM-like instrumentation tool for Linux executables. It
allows arbitrary code (written in C or C++) to be injected at arbitrary
places in an executable. Unlike Atom, Pin does not perform the
instrumentation statically by rewriting the executable, but rather
dynamically by adding instrumentation while the executable is running.
Currently supported platforms include IA-32, Intel Xscale, and Itanium
processors.
Changes: This release adds additional performance improvements for simple
inlineable analysis functions, especially when using the new
IPOINT_ANYWHERE instrumentation point selection mechanism. It has more
robust management of memory allocated by the pintool.

by Dengar (http://freshmeat.net/users/Dengar/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 11:03
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
About: PKLite is a lightweight SQL querying tool that can connect to any
JDBC compliant database. It provides basic query and update functionality
and some simple database information capabilities.
Changes: The HTML export file now uses valid HTML. You can run only a
portion of the SQL statement by selecting it. If you run a statement that
does not have a result set (i.e. an update), the result table will be
cleared. You can now remove commands from a script in the script runner.
You can now commit/rollback a transaction in the script runner by just
pushing a button instead of having to have a commit command in the script.
The much asked for undo/redo function has been added to the SQL textbox.
You can now cycle through open windows using Ctrl-g.

[064] - Postgrey 1.17
by David Schweikert (http://freshmeat.net/users/dschwei/)
Tue, Dec 14th 2004 00:10
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: Postgrey is a Postfix policy server that implements greylisting.
When a request for mail delivery is received by Postfix via SMTP, the
triplet CLIENT_IP / SENDER / RECIPIENT is built. If it is the first time
that this triplet is seen, or if the triplet was first seen less than 10
minutes ago, then the mail gets rejected with a temporary error.
Hopefully, spammers or viruses will not try again later, even though such
behavior is required per RFC.
Changes: Automatic whitelisting of clients that repeatedly demonstrate an
ability to pass greylisting was implemented. The effectiveness against
spam and viruses should remain the same, while reducing the frequency of
delays imposed on incoming mails.
