Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: 4tH is a Forth compiler with a little difference. Instead of the
standard Forth engine it features a conventional compiler. 4tH is a very
small compiler that can create bytecode, C-embeddable bytecode, standalone
executables, but also works fine as a scripting language. It supports over
85% of the ANS Forth CORE wordset and features conditional compilation,
pipes, files, assertions, forward declarations, recursion, include files,
etc. It comes with an RPN calculator, line editor, compiler, decompiler,
C-source generators, and a virtual machine.
Changes: The word SCONSTANT and the ANS-Forth word >BODY have been added.
The manual has been updated and expanded.

by Christian Tusche (http://freshmeat.net/users/chrtu/)
Sun, Dec 26th 2004 18:51
Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion
About: The main part of av_convert is a C++ API for accessing audio/video
files (AVI, Quicktime, YUV4MPEG stream, WAV, etc.). This functionality is
provided by a library and a set of plugin modules for I/O backends and
audio/video codecs. Using this library, "av_convert" can convert between
these file formats and provide basic editing functions, such as cutting
parts of different video sources to one destination. The included program
"av_rec" can record real-time video from a v4l-video-source with A/V sync.
Changes: The MPEG module can read DVDs. The command line frontend
av_convert now allows selecting the audio and video track to process, for
files that have more than one track. Some internal changes to the API of
libVideoFile allow passing options to modules, and the file type detection
was improved. A new video codec for uncompressed video is included.

About: jsgal is a dynamic Web-based gallery. However, rather than
generating the gallery pages on a server using scripts, it is implemented
in Javascript and DHTML and generates the pages in the client's browser.
No offline generation of the Web pages is required; only a list of images

by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
Sun, Dec 26th 2004 05:12
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Filesystems
About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed using
C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each file or
directory to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various
data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting
EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with event
updates using fam), XML (mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb,
LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA generators
include image, audio, and animation decoders.
Changes: Optional gcc hidden symbol support was added, which allows 2/3 of
symbols to be local to a shared object. A new cache attribute for out of
line RDF EA was added. Minor fixes were made for gcc 3.4.0. Error
reporting was improved for improper ~/.ferris setups. ontology-id is now
more eagerly created.

by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
Sun, Dec 26th 2004 03:01
Software Development :: Libraries
About: libferrisstreams is a collection of base classes for custom
std::basic_streambuf subclasses, SigC signals fired when streambuf
objects are about to be deleted, relative URL handling, easy reference
counting on streambuf objects, a collection of IOStreams which
complement the standard ones on offer (MakeMemoryIOStream(),
MakeFdIOStream(), MakeHoleyOStream(), MakeLimitingIStream(), and
MakeProxyStream()), and additions for UNIX semantics. For example a file
stream can be created using o_mmap|o_mseq when one wants a memory mapped
file to be used an madvise(2) that access to that area will be sequential.

by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
Sun, Dec 26th 2004 03:02
Database
Software Development :: Libraries
About: libstldb4 is a C++ wrapper for the sleepycat db4 database. It uses
the STL in the API where sensible, allows standard IOStreams for data
access where sensible, e.g. getting the value of a key should be able to
use an istream interface to allow simple partial value retreival, and
moves the transaction parameter to be the last optional parameter or
provides two versions of the same method for trans/nontrans. The API has
been modified to use more standard types. Operator overloading is used to
allow quick and dirty coding (mydb[ "key" ] = "value";) to set and cerr.

[018] - Linux Replicated High Availability Manager 0.7.4
by Simon Edwards (http://freshmeat.net/users/bongo44/)
Sun, Dec 26th 2004 03:01
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: The Linux Replicated High Availability Manager allows the creation
of clusters for providing high availability through data replication for
one or more applications. Currently, clusters are limited to two nodes,
but multiple applications can be hosted and failed-over between the nodes.
The software uses a modified "enbd / raidtools" subsystem, and thus does
not require shared media (such as twin-tailed SCSI storage).
Changes: The major change this release introduces is support for DRBD as
the underlying data replication protocol. DRBD appears to offer a saner,
less complex approach which results in improved availability and quicker
application start- up and synchronisation times under common failure
scenarios.

[036] - Stunnel 4.06
by Michal Trojnara (http://freshmeat.net/users/mtrojnar/)
Sun, Dec 26th 2004 00:37
Communications
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Security :: Cryptography
About: The stunnel program is designed to work as an SSL encryption
wrapper between remote client and local (inetd-startable) or remote
server. It can be used to add SSL functionality to commonly used inetd
daemons like POP2, POP3, and IMAP servers without any changes in the
programs' code. It will negotiate an SSL connection using the OpenSSL or
SSLeay libraries. It calls the underlying crypto libraries, so stunnel
supports whatever cryptographic algorithms you compiled into your crypto
package.
Changes: In this version, IPv6 support, compression support, hardware
engine selection and many other features were added. A new stunnel3 Perl
script to emulate version 3.x command line options was added. poll() is
used instead of select() where available, so FD_SETSIZE no longer limits
the number of concurrent connections.

[040] - YACY Proxy 0.32
by Michael Christen (http://freshmeat.net/users/Orbiter/)
Sun, Dec 26th 2004 02:55
Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: YACY is a distributed Web crawler and also a caching HTTP/HTTPS
proxy. Pages that pass through the proxy are indexed and can be searched
using a built-in HTTP server. YACY peers connect each other and form a
P2P-based index exchange network based on distributed hash tables.
Explicit web crawls can be done locally or collaboratively, forming a
global search and distributed indexing engine for the Web. It also
provides URL filtering with blacklist sharing among other proxy peers,
individual Web/servlet page hosting, a file sharing zone, and a database
engine.
Changes: In this version, new profile management for concurrent
crawl-jobs was implemented, more crawl-options were added, and several
bugs regarding word index caching, deadlocks, and the shutdown-procedure
have been fixed.
