[001] - Access_user Class 1.6
  by olaf (http://freshmeat.net/users/olaf2/)
  Tue, Dec 28th 2004 15:19

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Access_user Class is an easy to use system for protecting pages and
registering users. The main features are user login, user registration,
page protection, forgotten password recovery, and email-based account
activation. The class is powered by MySQL and PHP sessions. Inside the
package are examples for all primary methods.

Changes: The file manual.txt is replaced with a new better manual,
access_user_doc.htm. In this file, all important functions are described,
with examples and explanations about how to use the class. Some of the
example pages are slightly changed to fit the manual exactly. The
update_user() method has been modified to take care of empty passwords. If
the user doesn't fill the form with a new password, the old one will be
used during the record update.

About: Accountability Pal monitors your network and keeps track of who is
using the Internet and what they are viewing, downloading, uploading, etc.
It emails a report of each user's activity to the person/people you
specify. It will monitor HTTP traffic, Peer-to-Peer, FTP, and more. It
uses a plugin interface to allow others to easily add new protocols to its
monitoring abilities.

Changes: Currently monitors HTTP and some Peer-to-Peer traffic.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: libbnr is an implementation of the Bayesian Noise Reduction (BNR)
algorithm. All samples of text contain some degree of noise (data which is
either intentionally or unintentionally irrelevant to accurate statistical
analysis of the sample where removal of the data would result in a cleaner
analysis). The Bayesian noise reduction algorithm provides a means of
cleaner machine learning by providing more useful data, which ultimately
leads to better sample analysis. With the noisy data removed from the
sample, what is left is only data relevant to the classification. libbnr
can be linked in with your classifier and called using the standard C
interface.

Changes: This version employs a purely statistical method of noise
reduction using a pattern learning and consistency checking approach.
Patterns of p-value tuples are generated and learned as metatokens within
the classifier. The disposition of patterns are then compared against the
p-values of the tokens included in the pattern. Any inconsistencies
exceeding an exclusionary radius are then eliminated as noise.

System
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Beowulf includes an enhanced Linux kernel, libraries, and utilities
specifically designed for clustering. Beowulf provides a single system
image through BProc, the Beowulf cluster process management kernel
enhancement. BProc makes the processes running on cluster "Computation
Node" computers visible and manageable on a front-end "Master Node".
Processes start on the front-end node and migrate to a cluster node.
Process parent-child relationships and UNIX job control are maintained
with migrated tasks. Cluster slave nodes are not required to contain
resident applications. Their hard disks are used for application data and
cache. This approach eliminates version skew common with previous
generation clusters.

Changes: InfiniBand support was added along with bugfixes and code
cleanups.

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters

About: Bogofilter is a Bayesian spam filter. In its normal mode of
operation, it takes an email message or other text on standard input, does
a statistical check against lists of "good" and "bad" words, and returns a
status code indicating whether or not the message is spam. Bogofilter is
designed with fast algorithms (including Berkeley DB system), coded
directly in C, and tuned for speed, so it can be used for production by
sites that process a lot of mail.

Changes: New database maintenance options for bogoutil have been added.
Portability fixes for Berkeley DB 3.1/3.2, OS/2 have been made. SQLite3
3.0.8 or newer is now supported.

Desktop Environment
Desktop Environment :: Application Themes
Desktop Environment :: Application Themes :: Shells

About: cw is a non-intrusive real-time ANSI color wrapper for common
Unix-based commands. It is designed to simulate the environment of the
commands being executed, so that if a person types 'du', 'df', 'ping',
etc. in their shell it will automatically color the output in real-time
according to a definition file containing the color format desired. It
has support for wildcard match coloring, tokenized coloring,
headers/footers, case scenario coloring, command-line- dependent
definition coloring, and includes over 50 pre- made definition files.

Changes: A "CW_COLORIZE" environmental variable check has been added to
help make a uniform color scheme. A "MAKELEVEL" environmental variable
check has been added to help stop unwanted coloring when using the "make"
program. A "colorcfg" script has been added to help automate the enabling
of cw on a per-user basis. Black is a usable color for random related
definitions. The execution method has been revised. The pre-made 'make'
and 'df' definition files have been revised.

About: coNCePTuaL is a domain-specific programming language for rapidly
generating programs that measure the performance and/or test the
correctness of networks and network protocol layers. A few lines of
coNCePTuaL code can produce programs that would take significantly more
effort to write in a conventional programming language.

Changes: Two minor language features were added: an alternative version of
the TOUCHES statement that touches message buffers, and an IS NOT IN
ternary operator that complements the existing IS IN operator. Some small
improvements were made to the build process along with various bugfixes.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office

About: Mailadmin is a little administration interface to the popular Cyrus
mail server daemon. It supports every feature Cyrus provides, and fits in
most MTA configurations. For the sample scripts, Postfix is preferred. A
key feature is the non-standard, generic administration hierarchy which
not only seperates "normal users" from "administrators", but enables the
mailserver-master to create instances between them. You will be able to
let other users create their own sub-users and thus either share a single
mail server between different organizations or project your company's
employee structure.

Changes: Now available in Polish and Russian. Per-user limits regarding
the amount of elements are introduced. Filters can be applied to views.
Inheritance of categories is possible. Administration panels are now
hidden (standard). Form elements are now linked to their checkboxes.
Newsletters will now be displayed under a separate topic. Checkboxes have
been moved to the left. Renaming of domains is now possible. This version
is regarded as stable.

[027] - GNU ddrescue 0.9-rc1 (Development)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Tue, Dec 28th 2004 11:22

System :: Recovery Tools

About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently. Also you can
interrupt the rescue at any time and resume it later at the same point.

Changes: Ddrescue is now part of the GNU project. A configure script and
info file have been added. Two small bugs have been corrected. A new
option "binary-prefixes" has been added to show binary multipliers in
numbers (SI prefixes are used by default). Numbers are now accepted with
decimal (SI) or binary multipliers. 'badblocks file' has been renamed to
'logfile'. The log file is also saved if max_errors are exceeded.

About: Mail Avenger is a highly-configurable, MTA-independent SMTP server.
It lets users run messages through filters like ClamAV and SpamAssassin
during SMTP transactions, so the server can reject unwanted email before
assuming responsibility for its delivery. Other unique features include
TCP SYN fingerprint and network route recording, SPF (sender policy
framework) as a general policy language, qmail-style delivery of extension
addresses, validation of sender addresses through SMTP callbacks, mail-bomb
protection, integration with kernel firewalls, and more.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: PhpPeanuts is an OOP framework for developing Web-based business
applications in PHP. It dynamically generates a fully functional Web-based
user interface from application domain objects. This allows developers to
get early customer feedback to clarify specifications and reduce project
risk. It is based on a business component model with framework-based
persistency, and offers high-level user interface components for
searching, sorting, dialogs, and tabs. It features ultra rapid
prototyping, automatic form generation and validation, unit testing, and
extensive customization support.

Changes: This release runs on both php4 and php5. It is functionally equal
to phpPeanuts 1.1 beta 2. On php5, it runs with zend.ze1_compatibility_mode
= On as well as Off. Application developers can make their own phpPeanuts
applications portable, too, meaning that the same code does the same on
both platforms (instructions are included in the download). On php5, the
code is not free of E_STRICT notifications.

About: Pop 3 scan is a full transparent proxy server for POP3 clients. It
runs on a Linux box with iptables (for port redirection). It can be used
to provide POP3 email scanning from the Internet to any internal network,
and is ideal for helping to protect your "Other OS" LAN from harm,
especially when used in conjunction with a firewall and other Internet
proxy servers. It is designed to enable scanning of incoming email
messages for viruses, worms, trojans, spam, and harmful attachments.
Because viewing HTML email can enable a spammer to validate an email
address (via Web bugs), it can also provide HTML stripping.

Changes: Timeout checking was added to the basic scanner. When reporting a

[088] - wyoFiler 0.7.1
  by Otto Wyss (http://freshmeat.net/users/wyo/)

Desktop Environment
Desktop Environment :: File Managers

About: wyoFiler is a cross-platform program that shows all subdirectories
and files in one tree window. Directories and files can be selected and
manipulated across the whole hierarchy, from the base directory all the
way down to the lowest level. Selected items may be in different
directories on different levels. All file manipulations are done in the
background, so multiple commands are possible simultaneously. The filer
can display multiple base directories in tabbed notebook pages or separate
top level windows. It conforms to the wxGuide guidelines and uses the
wxWidgets framework.

Changes: This release fixes the default font, enhances the context menu,
and corrects the close command and the enabling of the open command.

[091] - Xconq 7.5.0-0pre.0.20041228
  by Elijah (http://freshmeat.net/users/thelenocist/)

Games/Entertainment

About: Xconq is a general strategy game system. It is a complete system
that includes all the components: a portable engine, graphical interfaces
for several platforms, multiple AIs, networking for multi-player games,
and an extensive game library. The games in the library range from ancient
civilizations to the far future, from simple to very complicated. Xconq's
forte is turn-based strategy with overhead map views, using a
hexagonally-tiled world. It includes a game design language GDL, which is
a declarative language that lets you define the units, terrain, etc, then
fill in tables defining their interaction. Literally hundreds of different
properties and tables are available to the game designer.

Changes: Unit image scaling and unit view bugs were squashed. The SDL
occupant view and unit construction view have been improved and is
designer-adaptable. Display code in the SDL and Tcl/Tk interfaces has
been rewritten and cleaned up tremendously. New unit vision features for
overwatch and identification were added. Action descriptions are provided
in the unit info display in the Tcl/Tk interface. The Opal and AWLS
families of games have been updated.
