Software Development :: Libraries

About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that can help you develop and deploy high-performance
software systems faster and better. ACE is especially useful for systems
that use network and/or inter-process communications and that take
advantage of multithreading. While the ACE source code is free, that's not
the only way you save money with ACE. ACE's wrappers and higher-level
patterns help you develop your software quickly and portably, helping you
to complete your projects on time and within budget.

Artistic Software
Communications
Communications :: BBS

About: alph implements and analyzes historical and traditional ciphers and
codes, such as polyalphabetic, susbstitutional, and mixed employing
human-reconstructable algorithms. It provides a pipe filter interface in
order to encrypt and decrypt block text to acheive transparency. The
program is meant to be used in conjunction with external programs that
transfer data, resulting in transparent encryption or decryption of
information. The program can thus be used as a mail filter, IRC filter, IM
filter, and so on.

Changes: The code was cleaned up. Some corrections were done to the BIFID
cipher, which, for the time being, just manages encryption. The manpage
was updated and explains the use of the smasher function. Multiple passes
through the frequency analysis routine are now implemented.

[006] - ARSC Really Simple Chat 3.0-beta2
  by Manuel Kiessling (http://freshmeat.net/users/pgod/)
  Thu, Dec 30th 2004 03:32

Communications :: Chat

About: ARSC Really Simple Chat is a Web chat system that uses PHP and
MySQL. It works with every browser in existence, even text-based ones, and
it uses the server push technique or, if possible, its own socket server.
It is very simple to install and use ARSC. It includes some important
features, such as operators, kick-ing, whispering, and more. Multiple
rooms and different languages are available. To run ARSC on your site, you
need a Web server that understands PHP, and can connect to a MySQL
database.

Changes: This release re-introduces the socket server and the text-
browser compatible interface. Furthermore, it is now compatible with PHP5
and PHP installations with safe_mode set to On. Pre-4.3.0 PHP
installations are likewise supported by providing a wrapper for the
sha1() function. The moderation system was improved by providing a
two-leveled message queue system. The installation script was improved,
too. This version now ships by default with an InRoomChat layout and
Display user, which allows for a quick and easy setup of a digital
backchannel on conferences, meetings, or in classrooms.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards

About: aterr is a threaded forum system, allowing registered visitors to
express their opinions, discuss topics, and debate with other visitors. A
threaded forum system differs from regular, flat forum systems in that
once posted, a thread can fork, allowing visitors to reply directly to
other posts. aterr also provides a customisable permissions system, the
ability to nest forums, and moderation tools.

Changes: The administration tools have been developed, allowing
fine-grained permission editing for each individual forum. The ability to
edit posts has been added, which is a customizable permission on a
per-forum basis. A new style has been designed with a new logo. The color
scheme is contained entirely in cascading stylesheets. A new statistics
box has been added to give general information about the forums. A wide
range of bug fixes and minor enhancements have been made.

  Thu, Dec 30th 2004 14:42

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
Text Processing :: Filters

About: DSPAM is a server-side statistical anti-spam agent for Unix email
servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and
effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques,
specialized algorithms, and statistical analysis. The result is an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. DSPAM has
yielded real-world success rates beyond 99.9% accuracy with less than a
0.01% chance of false positives.

Changes: A few memory leaks have been fixed. Occasional crashes due to the
use of thread-unsafe functions has been fixed. Minor adjustments have been
made to the Bayesian Noise Reduction algorithm. The training threshold was
changed to 2,000 messages. libbnr (the Bayesian Noise Reduction library)
was integrated into DSPAM, removing the older proprietary code.

  Thu, Dec 30th 2004 14:56

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: FinchTV is a utility for viewing chromatogram files that
researchers use to easily view sequencing data with dynamic interactivity.
It supports both the .ab1 and .scf chromat file formats. It can display the
entire trace in a multi-pane view with or without the base sequence (A, C,
T, or G), the associated quality values, and the sequence positions. It
allows dynamic adjustment of the vertical scale to expand the heights of
peaks (allowing more detailed analysis), dynamic adjustment of the
horizontal scale (allowing visualization of extended or condensed
sequences), and display of the chromatogram trace as a single pane or in a
wrapped view. It allows the user to view additional chromatogram data
details when available, including the format, sample ID, plate label, run
start, run stop, spacing, mobility, lane number, number of lanes, and
more.

Changes: The application could crash when editing older ABI files.
Exporting sequences with deleted bases would result in underscores in the
export file. The Linux application is packaged as a fully static build
with no library dependencies.

the song and the time that has passed since the song was last listened to.
The GUI allows you to view, rate, replay, and delete songs previously
listened to. It works with XMMS, WinAmp, and iTunes.

Changes: This release significantly improves queueing behavior. In
particular, genre and rating constraints are dealt with more accurately.
This version also introduces a new feature to smooth genre transitions and
the ability to insert music right after the currently playing song. The GUI
received some subtle improvements and several bugs have been fixed. This
mainly resulted in better consistency and stability on the Mac OS X
platform.

  Thu, Dec 30th 2004 06:51

Software Development :: Libraries

About: mysqltcl is the Tcl interface to mysql realtional database. It is
the next version of mysqltcl1.53 (new contributor) with many new futures:
Tcl8.0-Object support, Unicode support, configure support, no connection
limitation, nested queries, handling of binary files (containing null
values), and many extra commands: seek on result block, escaping of
string, last inserted id, introspection of connection and query state, and
query metadata (schema).

Changes: This version supports all new functions of MySQL in version 4.1
except for prepared statments. There are 11 new commands for handling
transactons, multistatements, multiresult, encoding, and null-value. There
are also new connection options for full SSL support and additional MySQL
4.1 features. Documentation is now created with the tcl doctools package.
All mysqltcl commands are defined in the ::mysql namespace, but old names
are still supported for backward compatibility. Mysqltcl now allows
reliable differentiation between the special database null value and the

code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: This version fixes several bugs, including a memory leak. There
were various small improvements.
