[018] - Dump/Restore 0.4b39

Fri, Jan 21st 2005 03:59
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Filesystems
About: The dump package contains both dump and restore. Dump examines
files in a filesystem, determines which ones need to be backed up, and
copies those files to a specified disk, tape or other storage medium. The
restore command performs the inverse function of dump; it can restore a
full backup of a filesystem. Subsequent incremental backups can then be
layered on top of the full backup. Single files and directory subtrees may
also be restored from full or partial backups.
Changes: This release fixes a few bugs introduced by the previous version,
most importantly a bug in 'restore -C' which could cause damage on the
filesystem being compared.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: JSON-RPC-Java provides an RPC implementation that allows JavaScript
DHTML Web applications to call remote methods in a Java Application Server
(remote scripting) without the need for page reloading. It is an enabler
for the next generation of fast and highly dynamic enterprise Java Web
applications. Minimal changes (if any) are necessary to existing
server-side Java code to allow calling from JavaScript (such as the
marshalling and unmarshalling of special types), as JSON-RPC-Java
dynamically maps JavaScript objects to and from Java objects using Java
reflection.
Changes: More detail has been added to the tutorial. Unmarshalling into
generic collection interfaces (list, map, and set) has been fixed.
Circular reference detection has been added to BeanSerializer. New test
cases have been added to the demo.

Fri, Jan 21st 2005 17:59
Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: The SOPE package is an extensive set of frameworks (16 frameworks,
~1500 classes) which form a complete Web application server environment.
Besides the Apple WebObjects compatible appserver extended with Zope
concepts, it contains a large set of reusable classes: XML processing
(SAX, DOM, XML-RPC), MIME/IMAP4 processing, LDAP connectivity, RDBMS
connectivity, and iCalendar parsing. The parts of the package can be used
stand-alone (e.g. in Cocoa applications) and do not require the appserver
parts. For MacOSX developers, the package includes SOPE:X, which contains
special Xcode and Cocoa support for SOPE.
Changes: SOPE 4.4beta.2 is currently the most stable version of the
frameworks and will lead to the first final release. A lot of issues were
fixed after 4.3.9, including fixes in the WebDAV/HTTP layer to allow for
GroupDAV support, in the iCalendar framework, and in the MIME/IMAP4
parser. The packaging has been greatly improved in 4.4b.2 and is ready for
the final release. Enhancements include support for positional SoAction
parameters, which allow for much easier handling of XML-RPC requests.

conflict detection and resolution, a history tree view, export and report
functions, CVS-compatible keyword substitution, overridable file type
autodetection and a transactional internal database.
Changes: Work area scans can now be cancelled and are performed without
blocking the application. An external diff tool can be integrated. The
size limit for files and change sets has been extended. Work areas can be
moved. Meta changes are synchronized between the client and server.
Miscellaneous UI details have been improved.

by dlam (http://freshmeat.net/users/dnlam/)
Fri, Jan 21st 2005 17:56
Desktop Environment
About: TabLaunch is a simple but cool-looking X application launch bar
based on YeahLaunch. It displays a user-specified list of applications as
tabs along the top of the screen. The user can specify an x coordinate
offset to position the launch bar or right-align it. The launch bar
becomes hidden after a specified delay. Each tab can be displayed as text
or an icon. Tabs are "enlarged" or zoomed-in when the mouse is over a tab.
Imlib is used to show and enlarge icons.
Changes: This release adds the ability to move the launch bar with the
mouse to access offscreen icons, increase image rendering speed by storing
preloaded images, and use Imlib2 instead of Imlib1.x.

[074] - wxGuide 0.4.2
by Otto Wyss (http://freshmeat.net/users/wyo/)

Documentation
Software Development
Software Development :: Documentation
About: wxGuide is a tutorial, a collection of guidelines for building
cross-platform applications with a well-designed, consistent look and
feel. It gives ideas and advice on how an application and its GUI could
and should be written. Development with these guidelines gives the GUI of
an application a standard set of base functionality. wxGuide also provides
sample code for each guideline written in C++ using the wxWidgets (formerly
wxWindows) framework. For a seasoned developer it shouldn't be difficult to
adapt these guidelines to other languages or frameworks.
Changes: wxConfig in wxWidgets 2.4.2 has a bug that prevents compilation
out of the box. This release adds the necessary workaround to the demo and
to the code samples.

[075] - XINS 1.1.0-rc1 (Development)
by Ernst de Haan (http://freshmeat.net/users/znerd/)
Fri, Jan 21st 2005 14:51
Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.
Changes: Various bugs have been fixed. Most importantly, spaces in
directory names are now supported. With this release, work has started on
1.2.0-alpha1.

[076] - Zoidberg 0.93
by Jaap Karssenberg (http://freshmeat.net/users/pardus/)
Fri, Jan 21st 2005 11:17
Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: Zoidberg (a.k.a. zoid) provides a modular Perl shell written,
configured, and operated entirely in Perl. It aspires to be a fully
operational login shell with all the features one normally expects. But it
also gives direct access to Perl objects and data structures from the
command line, and allows you to run Perl code within the scope of your
command line.
Changes: This is mainly a bugfix release. A serious bug in the evaluation
of logic operators was fixed, delayed jobs now remember their PWD, and the
'fc' builtin should work correctly now. It also contains some documentation
updates, and two example scripts were added.

[077] - ZoneMinder 1.20.0
by Philip Coombes (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcoombes/)
Fri, Jan 21st 2005 10:47
Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display
About: ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video
camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or
family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and
monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras
attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface
which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies
captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable,
permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives.
ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is
built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying
sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination
of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will
alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones.
All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web
interface.
Changes: This release contains a number of feature enhancements, the most
significant of which are an additional XHTML interface for mobile
browsing, enhance security for streaming and a generic triggering
interface for external triggers, and the concept of monitor groups to aid
in keeping a tidy display. The project has been slightly refactored to
allow easier distribution in other formats, such as RPMs and
self-contained distributions. There are minor fixes.
