Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale
About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.
Changes: Human readable text, with an option to suppress display of the
check digit, was added to Code-39, Interleaved 2 of 5, and Postnet
symbologies. The ability to suppress human readable text to EANs, UPCs,
ISBN, and all other symbologies that show text was added. Encoders now
pass font information to the renderer. The encoders were restructured to
prepare for the passing of switches to enable or disable features of the
encoder.

by James Lehman (http://freshmeat.net/users/JamesLehman/)
Sat, Jan 22nd 2005 02:06
Artistic Software
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
About: EZFB is a polymorphic, object oriented Linux frame buffer API
written in C, designed to adapt at run time to control any properly
configured Linux frame buffer video system. It offers independent,
simultaneous control of multiple video cards within a single system,
exceptional control of colors, the ability to display all or portions of
bitmap files anywhere on the screen, automatic color depth conversion, the
ability to capture to bitmap files, an 8x8 bitmapped font, routines to draw
points, lines, outlined and filled rectangles, signal trapping for
automatic screen clean-up at process termination, and much more. The
demonstration applications include a bitmap viewer, screen capture
utility, screen saver, and a touch screen calibration utility and an
application for generating, viewing, transforming, and saving files
according to The International Laser Display Association's ILDA file
format.
Changes: Changes were made to ilda.cpp/hpp. The ilda_section class was
redesigned to contain STL vectors of ilda_3D_point and ilda_palette_item,
replacing the C-style pointers (x, y, z, k, c, r, g, b) used to store
points in a frame or colors in a palette. A minimize_blank_points function
was added to reduce data stored on disk by eliminating all but one blank
point between any two shapes in a frame. The to_ofstream function in the
ilda class was fixed to save one frame with zero points at the end of a
file.

[022] - File Service Protocol 2.8.1b23 (Beta)
by Sven Hoexter (http://freshmeat.net/users/hoaxter/)
Sat, Jan 22nd 2005 07:57
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: FSP is a UDP-based protocol for transferring files. It has many
benefits over FTP, mainly for running anonymous archives. It is usable on
lines with high packet loss ratio (70% WiFi), can go behind firewalls and
unoticed by port scans (because of UDP), does not overload networks when
hosting ISOs or movies, share files on modem lines without eating all of
the bandwidth, and keeps lamers away from your site (they don't know how
to get to it). This project is active continuation of the FSP code base
(abandoned for the last 5 years).
Changes: This release adds large packet support to speed fsp, improved
directory listing (it's three RTT times faster now), renames send_file()
to serve_file() to avoid a name clash on AIX, increases the default packet
size for fspd to 1200 bytes, and adds the new file command "fspsites".

[023] - findutils 4.2.12
by James Youngman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jyoungman/)
Sat, Jan 22nd 2005 13:59
System :: Systems Administration
About: The findutils package consists of three programs. `find' is a
program which searches a directory tree to find a file or group of files.
It walks the directory tree and reports all occurences of a file matching
the user's specifications. `locate' scans one or more databases of
filenames and displays any matches. `xargs' builds and executes command
lines by gathering together arguments it reads on the standard input. Most
often, these arguments are lists of file names generated by `find'.
Changes: find should now be POSIX-compliant. "-exec ... {} +" now works.
The new -execdir and -okdir actions were added, which are like -exec and
-ok but are more secure.

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
About: Originally developed for the Psi project, Flyspray is an easy to

Changes: User group permissions are now set at project level as well as
globally. Permissions themselves are more fine-grained, allowing project

[034] - HAproxy 1.1.30 (Stable)
by Willy Tarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
Sat, Jan 22nd 2005 09:58
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking
About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP/HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, automatic failover,
header insertion, deletion, modification on the fly, advanced logging
contents to help trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and
a few other features. It uses its own state machine to achieve up to ten
thousands hits per second on modern hardware, even with thousands
simultaneous connections. It currently lacks SSL and keep-alive, both of
which are planned.
Changes: The max header size has increased to 8 KB, a new option "source"
allows per-server source binding, several servers can share the same id
(this eases soft-stop and off-site persistence), a new cookie "prefix"
method enables persistence on thin clients limited to one cookie (e.g.,
PDAs or mobile phones), the server call order now matches the
documentation, and a completely new architecture guide shows how to
address specific needs such as integration with Layer4 load-balancers,

About: L7-filter is a Netfilter match module which classifies packets
based on application layer (OSI layer 7) data. This means that it is able
to classify packets as HTTP, FTP, Gnucleus, Kazaa, etc., regardless of
ports. It complements existing matches that classify based on port
numbers, packet length, TOS bits, and so on. Combined with Linux QoS, it
allows for full layer 7 packet shaping.
Changes: A pattern for SSDP was added and the Jabber, Shoutcast/Icecast,

by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Sat, Jan 22nd 2005 02:07
Text Processing
Utilities
About: msort is a program for sorting files in sophisticated ways. It
differs from typical sort utilities in providing greater flexibility in
parsing the input into records and identifying key fields and greater
control over the sort order. Records need not be single lines of text but
may be delimited in a number of ways. Key fields may be selected either by
position or by tag. For each key an arbitrary sort order may be specified.
The sort order may contain multigraphs. In addition to the usual
lexicographic and numerical orderings, msort supports sorting by date,
time, and string length. Any or all keys may be optional. For optional
keys, the user may specify how records missing the key field should
compare to records in which the key field is present.

About: The PLEAC project aims to re-implement the solutions presented in
the Perl Cookbook (by Tom Christiansen & Nathan Torkington, published by
O'Reilly) in other programming languages. If successful, this project may
become a primary resource for quick, handy, free solutions to most common
programming problems using higher-level programming languages. It could
also be useful for comparison on ease-of-use and power/efficiency of these
languages.
Changes: Python and Ruby contributions have been coming in steadily (both
now over 60%). Sizable contributions have been made to Tcl (25%), Ocaml
(24%), Ada (26%) and Pliant (9%). Pike has also picked up as of late

[061] - Powersave Daemon 0.8.19
by Thomas Renninger (http://freshmeat.net/users/trenn/)
Sat, Jan 22nd 2005 02:52
About: The Powersave Daemon provides battery, temperature, AC, and CPU
frequency control and monitoring along with proper suspend to disk/RAM and
standby support with shell hooks that are easy to extend. It supports APM
and ACPI machines and can control a hard disk's advanced power and
acoustic management settings. It is perfect for laptops and workstations
that need to run quietly with low power consumption, or switch to full
performance mode if needed. Self definable power schemes give full control
over power control features and allow easy and automatic switching between
performance or power saving settings for each hardware component.
Changes: This version enabled swsusp for APM machines and checks swap
partitions before running swsusp. An error message that occurred if the
user had no rights to connect to the daemon was fixed. AC state is now
checked when battery polling is forced. A lock screen is now displayed
after suspending. Configuration was enhanced and all variables can now be
overridden and specified in scheme conf files. Users can now override the
active thermal trip point. The CPU frequency is now increased to the
maximum before suspending.

[083] - Wiclear 0.7-beta3
by David Jobet (http://freshmeat.net/users/djobet/)
Sat, Jan 22nd 2005 19:59
About: Wiclear aims to provide a simple, small, and accessible wiki. It
supports the XHTML and CSS W3C specifications. There is a simple install
program and an admin panel. All content is classified via a tree-like
structure. The wiki in itself is easily themeable (same capabilities as

editions. There are several types of users: admins, moderators, and simple
users. Moderators and admins can edit ACLs to reduce the number of people
allowed to modify a particular page. They can remove comments or
particular version of the content. Admins can edit/delete users, create
groups, edit them, set global rights (anonymous post, anonymous comments,
etc.), change themes, etc.
Changes: This version adds WikiWords, locale, and antibot registration,
as well as some minor feature enhancements (displaying the version, links
to get back to the Wiki in some pages, and configurable reply-to email),

Games/Entertainment :: Simulation
About: X-Plane is a flight simulator that reads in the geometric shape of
any aircraft and then figures out how that aircraft will fly. It does this
via an engineering process called "blade element theory", which involves
breaking the aircraft down into many small elements and then finding the
forces on each little element many times per second. These forces are then
converted into accelerations, which are then integrated to velocities and
positions. This gives X-Plane the most realistic flight model available
for personal computers.

[086] - XDBCMS 0.07
by Carl Beech (http://freshmeat.net/users/carlbeech/)
Sat, Jan 22nd 2005 14:18
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: XDBCMS is a Web-based, multi-user CMS that can manage any number of
Web sites, each site with any number of pages, and each site organised in a
tree-based menu that can be any depth. Where XDBCMS differs from most
content management systems is that it actually generates a stand-alone Web
site, which requires no database to drive it, can be 'released' to any Web
server, and would be able to cope with very large numbers of users. For
the authors, it features a WYSIWYG editor, similar to MS-Word in
appearance, allowing full control over the format (tables, fonts,
graphics, etc.) of each individual page. It allows multiple authors and
features a group-based security system.
Changes: Users now have the ability to select the WYSIWYG editor to use
within the system: either a plain (HTML) text editor, RTE as supplied as
standard with XDBCMS, or tinyMCE (an independently supported editor from
tinymce.moxiecode.com). Also, blocks of text can now be placed at specific
X,Y co-ordinates on the generated HTML pages.
