[001] - Anca 0.9.1
by Tom Potrusil (http://freshmeat.net/users/potrto/)
Wed, Jan 26th 2005 04:07
Communications :: Internet Phone
About: Anca is an H.323 client for Qt 3.x. It allows communication
(voice/video) with other similar clients over the Internet, e.g.
Gnomemeeting. Its design is minimalist and clean, and has support for
embedded devices. It is very modular, and has the following plugins:
addressbook (LDAP support), video-in (v4l support), video-out (framebuffer
support for embedded devices), and DTMF tones.
Changes: In this version, the sound and video in plugins were changed to
be compiled with the latest PWLib and OpenH323. A bug where the video
grabber failure resulted in a crash was fixed. The fake video device with
picture was temporarily removed due to compilation problems.

About: AVANGO is an object-oriented framework for the development of
distributed, interactive VE (Virtual Environments) applications. Data
distribution is achieved by transparent replication of a shared scene
graph among the participating processes of a distributed application. A
sophisticated group communication system is used to guarantee state
consistency even in the presence of late joining and leaving processes.
The familiar dataflow graph found in modern stand-alone 3D-application
toolkits extends nicely to the distributed case.

Wed, Jan 26th 2005 14:43
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Security
Utilities
About: Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose
of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment
scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded
daemon, a commandline scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via
Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the
Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use in your own software.
Changes: Scan engine improvements were made. The internal email scanner
now supports multipart/partial messages, and support for decoding
non-standard mail files was greatly enhanced. clamav-milter by default
uses libclamav and scans email messages itself without the use of clamd.
libclamav can now extract RFC2397 encoded data within HTML documents,
block zip archives with modified information in local header, and scan HQX
files. PE file structure rebuilding from compressed executables was
improved. clamdwatch users should upgrade to the latest version (under
contrib/) as soon as possible.

[017] - DKMS 2.0.5
by lerhaupt (http://freshmeat.net/users/lerhaupt/)
Wed, Jan 26th 2005 14:36
System :: Systems Administration
About: DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support) is a framework where device
driver source can reside outside the kernel source tree so that it is very
easy to rebuild modules as you upgrade kernels. This allows Linux vendors
to provide driver drops without having to wait for new kernel releases (as
a stopgap before the code can make it back into the kernel), while also
taking out the guesswork for customers attempting to recompile modules for
new kernels. For veteran Linux users it also provides some advantages since
a separate framework for driver drops will remove kernel releases as a
blocking mechanism for distributing code.
Changes: Changes in this version allow SuSE 2.6 kernels to build kernel
modules without kernel preparation time. There is also a tweak so that you
can specify MAKE_MATCH[0] to push DKMS to either use your MAKE[0] command
or the kernel's default MAKE command. Lastly, Red Hat driver disks made by
DKMS can now include the files modules.pcimap and pci.ids.

by DG (http://freshmeat.net/users/DirkGeschke/)
Wed, Jan 26th 2005 14:54
Communications :: Email
Database
Security
About: FLoP is designed to gather alerts with payload from distributed
snort sensors on a central server and to store them in a database
(PostgreSQL and MySQL are supported). On the sensor, the output is written
to a process called sockserv. This process is threaded; one thread receives
and buffers the alert packets, and the other thread forwards them to a
central server. The output is decoupled from snort, which can proceed in
sniffing instead of waiting for the output plugins. At the central server,
a process called servsock gathers all alerts from the remote sensors and
feeds them to the database. A short description of alerts with high
priority together with the database ID can be sent via email to a list of
recipients.
Changes: Event_references is now unique among restarts of snort so that
getpacket is able to rebuild only packets of the same tagged
session.Additional packet information like MAC addresses and vendor
information can be printed out. This release has a -Z option to disable
the use of UTC time within the database (the local timezone is used
instead). Some minor bugs are fixed and configure makes some additional
checks.

[028] - g-jutils 1.3
by Gertjan (http://freshmeat.net/users/gertjanvanzwieten/)
Wed, Jan 26th 2005 14:59
Utilities
About: The g-jutils are a collection of small command line utilities that
use the GJutils Python module for common things like color output and
command line parsing. The collection currently consists of four utilities:
a utility to monitor URLs for changes, a tool for renaming files using
regular expressions, a modular reminder service, and a (geography)
training tool.
Changes: The reminder service can now generate different types of event
listings. Currently, two output modules are available: text (default) and
latex. The new latex output module generates latex code that, when
processed, orders the events in a calendar-like way on a sheet of paper.

[045] - KKBSwitch 1.4.3
by Leonid Zeitlin (http://freshmeat.net/users/lz/)
Wed, Jan 26th 2005 07:33
Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
About: KKBSwitch is a keyboard layout indicator for KDE 2 and 3. It is
useful when you have configured the XKeyboard extension of your X Server
to have more than one keyboard group, for example US/ASCII and Russian. It
displays an icon in the system tray that indicates which layout is
currently active. Note that it does not help you configure XKeyboard, it
merely serves as the indicator of the current group. You still have to
configure XKeyboard by editing the XF86Config file. You can switch
keyboard groups by clicking the icon or selecting the desired group from
the icon's menu. Icons corresponding to different groups are configurable
(chosen from the country flag pixmaps that ship with KDE). There is also a
"Toggle mode" (toggles between the two most recently used layouts). The
keyboard layout can be switched for each window separately,
per-application (as in Windows) or globally.
Changes: Czech and Bulgarian translations were added. The algorithm for
guessing layout icons was improved a little, and now should guess the
correct icon in more situations.

About: libextractor is a library used to extract meta-data from files of
arbitrary type. It is designed to use helper-libraries to perform the
actual extraction, and to be trivially extendable by linking against
external extractors for additional file types. The goal is to provide
developers of file-sharing networks, file managers, and WWW-indexing bots
with a universal library to obtain meta-data about files. libextractor
contains a shell-command "extract" that, similar to the well-known "file"
command, can extract meta-data from a file and print the results to
stdout. Currently, it supports the formats HTML, PDF, PS, OLE2 (doc, xls,
ppt), StarOffice, OpenOffice, MAN, DVI, MP3 (ID3v1, ID3v2), OGG, WAV,
JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, DEB, RPM, TAR(.GZ), ZIP, Real, QT, MPEG, RIFF (AVI),
ASF, and ELF. Various additional MIME types are detected. libextractor can
also be used to compute hash functions (SHA-1, MD5, ripemd160). A Java

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: mod_vhs is an Apache 2.0 Web server module allowing mass virtual
hosting without the need for file-based configuration. The virtual host
paths are translated from any database supported by libhome at request
time from MySQL, LDAP, PAM, or a system password file.
Changes: An option was added to cause mod_vhs to wait for mod_alias and
mod_userdir before starting up. An option was added to cause mod_vhs to
perform its work before mod_rewrite and mod_php perform their work. An
experimental option was added to allow the Default Host to redirect using
HTTP Redirect. The module should be thread safe when using NPM=worker.
Options that allow PHP configuration to be modified and adapted at runtime
inside a VirtualHost configuration were added.

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: The Network Security Policy Compiler (NetSPoC) is a tool for
security management of large computer networks with different security
domains. It generates configuration files for packet filters controlling
the borders of security domains. It provides its own language for
describing security policy and the topology of a network. The security
policy is a set of rules that state which packets are allowed to pass the
network and which are not. NetSPoC is topology aware; a rule for traffic
from A to B is automatically applied to all managed packet filters on the
path from A to B.

Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.
About: nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your
meals for nutrient composition. The database included is the USDA Nutrient
Database for Standard Reference, Release 17, which contains 6,839 foods and
128 nutrients. This database contains values for vitamins, minerals, fats,
calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, etc., and includes the essential
polyunsaturated fats, Omega-3 and Omega-6. Nutrient levels are expressed
as a percentage of the Daily Value, the familiar standard of food labeling
in the United States, but also can be fully customized. Foods can be added
from recipes or food labels, and nutrient intake can be graphed. The
program is completely menu-driven and there are no commands to learn.
Changes: This release completes the changing of all calculations to
substitute user averages for program constants in the values of calories
per gram of carb, fat, and protein, and of the percentage of total fat
that is fatty acids. This means that personal options in terms of
percentages and ratios will be more precise.

About: Rails is a Web application framework for Ruby modeled after the MVC

in development with models and controllers reloading on every request now
resembles "the real thing" a lot more by actually removing the model

[083] - Redet 4.10
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Wed, Jan 26th 2005 14:49
Text Processing :: Linguistic
About: Redet (Regular Expression Development and Execution Tool) allows
the user to construct regular expressions and test them against input data
by executing any of a variety of search programs, editors, and programming
languages that make use of regular expressions. When a suitable regular
expression has been constructed it may be saved to a file. For each
program, a palette showing the available regular expression syntax is
provided. Selections from the palette may be copied to the regular
expression window with a mouse click. Definitions can be added to the
palette via an initialization file. As long as the underlying program
supports Unicode, UTF-8 Unicode is allowed in both test data and regular
expressions.
Changes: Support for Guile was added. Most of the relevant programs match
any line that contains a match to the regular expression. This is a source
of confusion to novices, so if the selected program is of this type, the
name of the program in the Execute-X button is now shown surrounded by
asterisks, e.g. Execute-*Egrep*. A bug that kept the palette from being
generated when the program was redundantly specified in the init file as
the same as the default has been fixed.

[102] - Traffic Control Super Script 3.1
by Kegan Holtzhausen (http://freshmeat.net/users/marzubus/)
Wed, Jan 26th 2005 04:15
System :: Networking
About: Traffic Control Super Script is used for traffic shaping of
Internet (IP) traffic passing through a NAT/bridge box with only one
hosts-config file with one line per host configs. TCSS can manage
bandwidth to user-specified speeds based on the u32 classifier. TCSS uses
the iproute2-u32 classifier to identify traffic by source, dest,
sourceport, destport, proto, and tos. It then limits the rate of
connection in either a single or a bidirectional fashion.
Changes: This release adds multiport matching support, layer7 payload
matching support, P2P payload matching support, and more priority options.
It also adds port range select support, and updates the documentation.

[103] - TTraq 0.8.2
by Thomas Hartwig (http://freshmeat.net/users/thhart/)
Wed, Jan 26th 2005 10:10
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
About: TTraq is a time tracking (timesheet) system that helps consultants,
employees, freelancers, or service providers of any kind who work in a
project oriented environment. It is a sophisticated Web application based
upon the Struts framework by the Apache Group. The data is managed via the
persistence framework Hibernate. It should run on any J2EE compliant
container. All data can be exported to CSV, HTML, or Excel. It is easy to
set up; just deploy it with your container and use the Web setup when
TTraq is started first. A backing store (database) is included in the
distribution.
Changes: This release adds the ability to run in a "closed" intranet that
has no connection to the Internet. Some internal validator DTD references
prevented this in the past. The TTraq version will now be shown in the
footer information. There are minor bugfixes and code reviews.

[107] - XDBCMS 0.07a
by Carl Beech (http://freshmeat.net/users/carlbeech/)
Wed, Jan 26th 2005 15:17
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: XDBCMS is a Web-based, multi-user CMS that can manage any number of
Web sites, each site with any number of pages, and each site organised in a
tree-based menu that can be any depth. Where XDBCMS differs from most
content management systems is that it actually generates a stand-alone Web
site, which requires no database to drive it, can be 'released' to any Web
server, and would be able to cope with very large numbers of users. For
the authors, it features a WYSIWYG editor, similar to MS-Word in
appearance, allowing full control over the format (tables, fonts,
graphics, etc.) of each individual page. It allows multiple authors and
features a group-based security system.
Changes: This release fixes bugs found in the Javascript used in data
entry pages, and user preference screens that appear when using Internet
Explorer. Modifications have been made to the calling parameters of
tinyMCE editor, which caused image and file references to break.

[108] - XINS 1.1.0-rc2 (Development)
by Ernst de Haan (http://freshmeat.net/users/znerd/)
Wed, Jan 26th 2005 09:55
Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.
Changes: Some minor bugs were fixed. All unit tests were executed
successfully with Sun Java 1.4.2_06, 1.5.0_01, and the 1.6 Early Access
release.
