[001] - Active Calendar 1.0.1
  by giorgos (http://freshmeat.net/users/georgiost/)
  Sun, Jan 30th 2005 08:13

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Office/Business :: Scheduling
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Active Calendar is a PHP class that generates calendars (month or
year view) as HTML tables (XHTML-Valid). It can produce static calendars
without any links or calendars with navigation controls, a date picker
control, event days and content with event URLs, and linkable days
(optionally URL or Javascript). The layout can be configured using CSS,
and JavaScript is not required. The supported dates (on systems using a
32-bit signed integer Unix time_t) are: 1902-2037 (Unix) and 1971-2037
(Windows), when using the default PHP native date functions, and 100-3000
and later, when using the ADOdb Date Library.

Changes: The class can now accept different URLs for the day and
navigation links. A new example script has been added to demonstrate how
to set events using an XML file.

[002] - Adaptive Website Framework 2.00-beta (Development)
  by Liquid Bytes (http://freshmeat.net/users/liquidbytes/)
  Sun, Jan 30th 2005 20:26

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Liquid Bytes Adaptive Website Framework (AWF) is a content
management system. Most of its code is object-oriented and very easy to
extend. It features version and link management, support for multiple
Websites and fully flexible URLs so that it's possible to replace existing
static Websites with this CMS.

Changes: AWF 2 is a complete rewrite of AWF 1 using PHP 5, PEAR::DB 1.6,
and the Smarty temlate engine. Most of the code is object-oriented now.
Still missing in this beta are some features like a forum document type
and an instant messaging system. Both will be included in the final
version. Caching will also be improved in the next release. One of the
most important changes is that AWF 2 supports fully flexible URLs so that
it's possible to replace existing static Web sites with this CMS. Other
new features include version and link management as well as support for
multiple Web sites.

  Sun, Jan 30th 2005 00:29

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Multimedia :: Graphics

About: adesklets is an interactive Imlib2 console for the X Window system.
It provides to scripted languages a clean and simple way to write great
looking, mildly interactive desktop integrated graphic applets (aka
“desklets”). It can also be used as a command line oriented graphics
editor, a bit similar to ImageMagick, but with different functionality.

Changes: This version adds a few requested features, including the ability
to restart all running desklets automatically whenever adesklets is called
as a desklets launcher (without arguments), infrastructure to work with
window managers using fake root windows, and built-in autodetection of
Xfce 4. It also cleans many things for the build process, corrects a minor
bug within the Python module and adds a preliminary French translation of
the documentation.

  Sun, Jan 30th 2005 00:15

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Networking

About: dnspython is a DNS toolkit for Python. It supports almost all of
the record types. It can be used for queries, zone transfers, and dynamic
updates. It supports TSIG authenticated messages and EDNS0. dnspython
provides both high and low level access to DNS. The high level classes
perform queries for data of a given name, type, and class, and return an
answer set. The low level classes allow direct manipulation of DNS zones,
messages, names, and  records.

Changes: This release mostly includes bugfixes. A notable new feature is
that messages are now indexed, which greatly improves the from_wire()
performance of large messages such as zone transfers.

  by James Youngman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jyoungman/)
  Sun, Jan 30th 2005 13:06

System :: Systems Administration

About: The findutils package consists of three programs. `find' is a
program which searches a directory tree to find a file or group of files.
It walks the directory tree and reports all occurences of a file matching
the user's specifications. `locate' scans one or more databases of
filenames and displays any matches. `xargs' builds and executes command
lines by gathering together arguments it reads on the standard input. Most
often, these arguments are lists of file names generated by `find'.

Changes: Better support for 64-bit systems. Compilation fixes for Solaris,
AIX, IRIX, and others. Documentation improvements and a new "Security
Considerations" chapter. find and xargs are now POSIX-compliant. find has
significant performance improvements. New actions -execdir, -delete, and
-quit, as well as more format options for -printf. Robust automount
handling. xargs has a longer command line by default. There are bugfixes
in locate. New options --null, --basename, --limit, --count, --statistics,

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Software Development :: Libraries

About: ccaudio2 is a simple, highly portable, stand-alone, C++-based
framework for manipulation of audio data. Its goal is to be a C++
framework that is as useful as "audiofile" or "sndfile" is for C
programming, and to cover various generic and useful manipulations of
audio data as well as audio file access. A stand-alone audio processing
command line tool is also provided to demonstrate library functionality.
ccaudio2 compiles under Mac OS X, POSIX systems, and Win32 systems.

Changes: This release supports raw audio, SUN ".au", and "riff" (.wav)
files. Some initial support for MPEG audio is also provided. ccAudio2
includes functions and methods for various forms of audio manipulation and
a system for codec plugins. A stand-alone audiotool command line utility is

[029] - GNU Common C++ 1.3.1
  by David Sugar (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidsugar/)
  Sun, Jan 30th 2005 07:21

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Common C++ is a highly portable C++ class library meant primarily
for the development of portable threaded applications. Support is provided
both for POSIX platforms and native builds under Win32. The goal is to
provide a truly common C++ framework for writing portable threaded
applications that do not require a huge amount of runtime overhead to
support, and hence can make C++ and threads suitable even for the
development of trivial servers and applications.

Changes: New features include serialization of pairs and a run-list
non-blocking callback semaphore-like operation class. Fixes were made for
demo tcpservice, for TTYStream underflow, for missing overlap on
strlcpy/strlcat, a two level /etc check, and for a security problem. As a
security measure, keydata config file paths can no longer be "relocated"
through environment manipulation. Config files must be owned by root or
match the process UID. Virtuals no longer have inline defs. The exception
notice was changed to match GNU libstdc++ runtime exception. A named assoc
misc base class was added.

About: MIB Smithy SDK is a dynamic extension to Tcl/Tk (8.1+) that allows
development of custom scripts for controlling SNMP agents, manipulating
SMI definitions, doing conversions, and more. It is based on the core of
Muonics' MIB Smithy, and the SDK supports SMIv1 and SMIv2, as well as
SNMPv1/v2c/v3 with HMAC-SHA-96 and HMAC-MD5-96 authentication and CBC-DES
privacy. It also provides complete read-write access to all elements of
SMI/MIB Module definitions, unlike similar extensions that provide only
read access to a limited subset. The SDK allows multiple discrete SMI
databases and SNMP sessions, and provides all of the built-in validation
and error recovery capabilites of the full product, without the visual MIB
development environment.

Changes: Interfaces for SNMPv3/USM key generation, localization, and
KeyChange calculation were added. Optimizations were made to the SNMP
library towards improved memory management, performance, and thread

About: OpenCartable is an online tool for teachers and their students
organized around textbooks and bibliographies of links to Web sites or
uploaded files. The "todo" links (or resources) can be affected as works
that the student answers and the teacher corrects and marks. The focus is

textbooks, and works. Users are grouped in a school, and teachers manage
their students through groups. The contents are written as standard
DocBook files plus a LOM (Learning Object Metadata) schema that can be
shared among OpenCartable servers using simple tools like rsync.
