[001] - Access_user Class  1.64
  by olaf (http://freshmeat.net/users/olaf2/)
  Wed, Feb 2nd 2005 03:26

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Access_user Class is an easy to use system for protecting pages and
registering users. The main features are user login, user registration,
page protection, forgotten password recovery, and email-based account
activation. The class is powered by MySQL and PHP sessions. Inside the
package are examples for all primary methods.

Changes: In this release, the activate_new_password() method was modified
to check the ID while updating the password, and other functions were also
changed so that IDs are cross- checked when changing password information.
A method for email address validation was also included.

  Wed, Feb 2nd 2005 03:34

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Multimedia :: Graphics

About: adesklets is an interactive Imlib2 console for the X Window system.
It provides to scripted languages a clean and simple way to write great
looking, mildly interactive desktop integrated graphic applets (aka
“desklets”). It can also be used as a command line oriented graphics
editor, a bit similar to ImageMagick, but with different functionality.

Changes: This is mainly a documentation update release which adds a whole
chapter about integration with other languages. It also corrects a few
build inaccuracies, and fixes a minor bug with the "get_id" command in
interactive mode.

[005] - Asymptote 0.60
  by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Changes: A bug was fixed in the path solving routines. Interactive mode
now closely emulates a true line-at-a-time mode in that standard input
associated with previous commands is read from a file buffer. The
interactive Import command was renamed 'input', as it now includes code
directly into Asymptote. A facility was added for checking to see if a
file exists. The definitions of endl and tab in plain.asy were fixed,
along with the PostScript include command. A grid generation routine was
added to math.asy. The binary installation instructions were simplified.

[009] - C++ Regex Engine 0.04a
  by unr_stuart (http://freshmeat.net/users/unr_stuart/)
  Wed, Feb 2nd 2005 02:22

Text Processing

About: C++ Regex Engine provides a robust regular expression library for
use in C++. The syntax of the regular expression language is very close to
the Perl 5 standard. The classes given somewhat mirror those found in
Java's regular expression library, but have several improvements. The
intended audience of this package is anyone who does a lot of data parsing
(e.g. sysadmins), people tired of trying to decipher Perl scripts, and
regular expression beginners who know C++. Some knowledge of the STL's
vector and string will come in handy, but isn't necessary.

Changes: This release features two major and several minor bugfixes.

[017] - Electric Fence 2.4.12
  by Hayati Ayguen (http://freshmeat.net/users/hayguen/)
  Wed, Feb 2nd 2005 20:58

Software Development :: Debuggers

About: Electric Fence (efence) stops your program on the exact instruction
that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer. GDB will then
display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works by using the
virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of each buffer
- touch that, and your program stops. Catch all of those formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs that have been bothering you for years.

Changes: A EF_NO_GLOBAL_MALLOC_FREE preprocessor flag was added to work
around buggy environments. This prevents malloc(), free(), realloc(), and
calloc() from being put into the global namespace of the efence library,
thus only files which include efence.h will call the efence malloc()
replacement functions. This flag is also helpful where the linking order
cannot be controlled, for example when memory is allocated from a library
not using efence, but free() is called from using efence. This is a
problem when using .dll libraries linked against msvcrt.dll and its
malloc/free under MS Windows.

highly customizable, and can be extended via Lua, Guile, or Perl scripts.
It has limited support for CSS and Javascript.

Changes: This release adds Ruby scripting support and merges the official
Debian package files. Noteworthy bugfixes include a critical form bug

  by David Li (http://freshmeat.net/users/taweili/)
  Wed, Feb 2nd 2005 08:38

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Enhydra XMLC radically simplifies Web development by cleanly
separating presentation from code. Enhydra XMLC parses an HTML file and
creates a Java object that enables an application to change the HTML
file's content at runtime, without regard for its formatting.

Changes: A bug where DynamicMLCreator and TidyHTMLParser (along with a few
tests) were using the name "UTF8" for encoding instead of "UTF-8" was
fixed. XMLC DOM3 was made compatible so that it can be used under JDK1.5.
Note that any and all DOM3-specific methods have simple NOP
implementations and are there only to provide compile and runtime
compatibility in a DOM3 environment, so you should not use DOM3 with XMLC
documents.

one of several compression algorithms. In general, pkt will try to use the
best algorithms available.

Changes: A problem with savedirectory spinlock control modes (caused a
lockup) has been fixed. The timeout to the connection in jcterm has been
increased (this was causing socket closures even when the SSH 2 server was
up). A check for JCE has been added to jcterm (was causing a null pointer
exception on machines without JCE with no way of recovery).

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Desktop Environment :: Tools

About: Preferences Hide and Seek is a utility that groups together all the
options that actually exist for GNOME preferences, but are usually hard to
find or are just plain hidden from the user. This utility makes it
possible to create a simple data file to expose gconf-based options to the
user. It was created to allow usable access to the hidden application
options buried within gconf.

Changes: This release adds color selection and font selection to the
available entry types. The application list in the 2.9 panel run dialog
can now be disabled, and the login splash screen can be changed.

[066] - Redet 4.12
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Wed, Feb 2nd 2005 03:31

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: Redet (Regular Expression Development and Execution Tool) allows
the user to construct regular expressions and test them against input data
by executing any of a variety of search programs, editors, and programming
languages that make use of regular expressions. When a suitable regular
expression has been constructed it may be saved to a file. For each
program, a palette showing the available regular expression syntax is
provided. Selections from the palette may be copied to the regular
expression window with a mouse click. Definitions can be added to the
palette via an initialization file. As long as the underlying program
supports Unicode, UTF-8 Unicode is allowed in both test data and regular
expressions.

Changes: This release fixes a bug that caused the program to die if
reading of the init file was enabled (the default) but no init file was
present.

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: t-prot (TOFU Protection) is a filter which improves the readability
of email messages and Usenet posts by hiding some of their annoying parts.
The annoyances it handles include mailing list footers, signatures, TOFU,
sequences of blank lines, and repeated punctuation. TOFU is an acronym
that stands for "Text oben, Fullquote unten", a German reference to the
practice of adding just a few lines of original text and quoting a
complete message below them.

  Wed, Feb 2nd 2005 06:37

System :: Operating System Kernels

About: Visopsys is an alternative operating system for PC compatible
computers. Under development since late 1997, this system is small, fast,
and open source. It features a simple but attractive interface, real
preemptive multitasking, and virtual memory. Though it attempts to be
compatible in a number of ways, Visopsys is not a clone of any other
operating system. You can demo the distribution from a "live" CD or floppy
disk.

Changes: This is a maintenance release, with numerous small improvements
and bugfixes. The kernel's file handling has been re-engineered, and the
memory usage reporting tools have been enhanced. The Disk Manager once
again reports correct disk sizes in megabytes. A file copying bug has been
fixed. A number of unnecessary files and programs have been removed. A
couple of small but potentially critical bits of the boot code have been
refined.
