[001] - abcm2ps 4.8.10 (Development)
by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
Mon, Feb 14th 2005 06:05
Printing
About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.
Changes: In addition to several bugfixes, this release adds the command
"M=measure duration".

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: adesklets is an interactive Imlib2 console for the X Window system.
It provides to scripted languages a clean and simple way to write great
looking, mildly interactive desktop integrated graphic applets (aka
"desklets"). It can also be used as a command line oriented graphics
editor, a bit similar to ImageMagick, but with different functionality.
Changes: This is a bugfix release. It just adds support for interruption
of time gates by events. This is a feature absolutely required to make
some timed effects possible.

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: This release supports fonts, subpaths, unfilling, and even/odd
filling and clipping rules. Picture clipping was reimplemented to fix
transformation and layering of clipped pictures. The pattern generation
routines were simplified. The "squarecap" and "roundjoin" variables
replace linecap(Square), etc. A colored background option was added to
bbox. This release includes an Asymptote backend for the pstoedit
PostScript editor, with native clipping and PostScript subpath support. A
segmentation fault and floating point exception in linetype was fixed,
along with a bug in the LaTeX rotation angle format.

possible within 3 minutes. You control a gun which may fire either small
or large grenades by ''point-and-click'' at soldiers, jeeps, and tanks,
and which must be reloaded from time to time.
Changes: This release applies the security patch for improper snprintf
calls, as well as a patch to reduce CPU consumption. Its delay, as well as
fullscreen/windowed and sound/no sound, may now be set by command line
options. The README and INSTALL have been restructured and updated to
become more readable.

by Thomas Mailund (http://freshmeat.net/users/mailund_birc/)
Mon, Feb 14th 2005 05:29
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
About: CoaSim is a tool for simulating the coalescent process with
recombination and gene conversion under the assumption of exponential
population growth. It efficiently constructs the ancestral recombination
graph for a given number of individuals and uses this to simulate samples
of SNP and micro satellite haplotypes/genotypes. The generated sample can
afterwards be separated in cases and controls, depending on the states of
selected individual markers. The tool can accordingly also be used to
construct cases and control data sets for association studies.
Changes: This release adds a number of new guile bindings, simplifying a
number of common tasks. It also enables inspection of a large number of

Desktop Environment :: Application Themes
Desktop Environment :: Application Themes :: Shells
About: cw is a non-intrusive real-time ANSI color wrapper for common
Unix-based commands. It is designed to simulate the environment of the
commands being executed, so that if a person types 'du', 'df', 'ping',
etc. in their shell it will automatically color the output in real-time
according to a definition file containing the color format desired. It
has support for wildcard match coloring, tokenized coloring,
headers/footers, case scenario coloring, command-line- dependent
definition coloring, and includes over 50 pre- made definition files.
Changes: "!" and "@" were added to run programs as they are placed in the
cw definition file. The "ifexit", "ifnexit", and "ifexit-else" definition
instructions were added to compare exit levels. The "CW_CHK_NOCOLOR" and
"CW_CHK_SETCODE" environmental variable checks were added to run a program
or shell expression and check the exit code to either disable or set to be
used against the "ifexit" definition instructions. The "useifregex"
definition instruction was added to enable use of regex comparisons with
the "ifarg" and "ifos" definition instructions. Multiple bugs in cwu were
fixed.

by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Mon, Feb 14th 2005 10:17
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: A bug where streams for commits on distributed branches didn't
always get set properly has been fixed. conary.1 has been split into
conary.1 and cvc.1. A default :devellib component has been added for
architecture-specific devel bits; all files with an architecture-specific
multilib path that are not in :devellib go into :lib instead of many of
them falling into :runtime. cvc cook trove=<version> is allowed, and the
cook command's --target-branch option has been removed.

[033] - fastutil 4.4.0
by Sebastiano Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/vigna/)
Mon, Feb 14th 2005 02:36
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: fastutil extends the Java Collections Framework by providing
type-specific maps, sets, lists, and queues for Java with a small memory
footprint and fast access and insertion; it also includes a fast I/O API
for binary and text files. The classes implement their standard
counterpart interfaces (e.g., Map for maps) and can be plugged into
existing code. Besides the usual features, fastutil provides
reference-based containers (which do not use equals() to compare objects)
and linked structures. Most iterators provided by fastutil classes are
bidirectional, or even implement the standard list iterator interface.
Changes: A new package for high-performance I/O of objects, arrays, and
iterators has been added. Some classes were migrated from MG4J.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: GeboGebo is a wiki system written for tdbengine. It stores all data
in a local database structure and thus provides an indexed fulltext search.
It uses a simple syntax, and has user lists, pages history, a missing pages
list, and a recent changes list. Image and file upload are possible, but
can be disabled. This allows it to work as a small document management
system. A blacklist allows you to lock existing pages from being edited or
new pages from being created. It can also be run in static mode, where all
pages are additionally held as static HTML pages.
Changes: The render engine was completely rewritten and is now line-
based. This increases the overall performance majorly. Lists now support
hierarchical structures up to 99 levels. The new optional AutoLink system
replaces bare words by links to pages whose names match the word. So it's
possible to have a complete WikiWikiWeb with fully cross linked pages
without having to insert links by hand.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Keepalived for LVS aims to add a strong and robust keepalive
facility to the Linux Virtual Server project. This project is written in C
with multilayer TCP/IP stack checks. It implements a framework based on
three family checks: Layer3, Layer4, and Layer5. This framework gives the
daemon the ability of checking a LVS server pool states.When one of the
servers in the LVS server pool is down, keepalived informs the Linux
kernel via a setsockopt call to remove this server entry from the LVS
topology. In addition, it implements a VRRPv2 stack to handle director
failover.
Changes: This version releases iproutes before ipaddresses while restoring
interfaces inside the VRRP framework, fixes some buffer overruns and NULL
pointers and one memory leak, redesigns signal handling, fixes some
shadowed declarations, extends libipvs to support syncd zombies handling,
fixes scheduling and configuration reloading race conditions, and adds

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
About: PhpLabware is a database system with features similar to Filemaker
and Access, but is completely Web-based. Relational databases can be
defined through the Web interface and extended with PHP plugin code. User
and group access is regulated at the record level. It was written by and
for life sciences research scientists, but should be generally useful as a
Web-based front end to SQL databases.
Changes: This release adds improvements to the user interface (which is
now W3C-compliant HTML) and a number of bugfixes. The 'table edit' mode
was reworked and is now much more responsive and usable. It is now
possible to add username, password, and search statements to the URL,
making 'deep- linking' into the databases possible. The PDF plugin can
download the PDF reprint itself (when given a pubmed ID) from many
journals. The import module has been reworked and should be much more
robust.

Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.
Changes: Project Manager now allows you to remove files from a project
that are already absent in the project input directory. It allows you to
have an arbitrary number of files in the project that are to be scanned
for identifiers of HTML nodes and form elements. Due to improvements in
Stunnix Perl Web Server, Project Manager now runs more reliably on Windows
computers with incorrect network settings. Various bugfixes and
improvements all over the code and documentation were made.

[094] - Tom's Unique Personal Information Manager 1.5
by Tom Ballard (http://freshmeat.net/users/tbpub/)
Mon, Feb 14th 2005 19:41
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
About: Tom's Unique Personal Information Manager is an hierarchical
personal data manager. Schemas and data are stored in XML. It is designed
for single users and small personal databases.
Changes: This release was changed to support GTK 2.6, since it reads
internal GTK tree/list data for performance reasons. Signed number masks
are now correctly handled. Zip codes support Zip+4. A message is printed
on stderr when data is saved, allowing tupim to participate in
interprocess communication, for instance, as an options dialog. The fact
that self-referencing tables are not allowed is now documented. Other
minor fixes were made.

[095] - Transtalo 0.2.2
by Tijmen Baarda (http://freshmeat.net/users/tijmen/)
Mon, Feb 14th 2005 10:06
Text Processing :: Linguistic
About: Transtalo is an automatic translator. It consists of a library
interface and modules for source and destination languages (called input
and output modules). These modules communicate to each other through
sentence files in an XML format.
Changes: This release changes the build system so that it checks if
libxml2 is present and chooses the right include directory. Previous
releases prevented the library from compiling because the libxml2 include
directory wasn't in the include path. If you got an error related to
libxml2 during compilation, this release will probably fix it.

Software Development :: Testing
About: Web Performance Trainer is a load testing and stress testing tool
for Web servers. Its statistical analysis takes your site's performance
criteria, and determines the number of users your Web site can handle.
Because data is collected at the URL level, it not only identifies slow
Web pages, but identifies the particular part of the Web page that caused
the problem. Web Performance Trainer includes hard-to-find features such
as IP spoofing, client certificates, multiple simultaneous test cases,
authentication, SSL recording and playback, automated analysis, and more.
Changes: A bugfix was made in the Authentication Wizard so it doesn't
erase session-tracking filters. A bug where HTML form-content wasn't being
re-mapped if the user had edited an individual URL's parameters was fixed.
Anyone using the authentication or session tracking features is urged to
upgrade.
