[005] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.8.3-RC1
  by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
  Sun, Feb 13th 2005 17:56

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ and DMZ-2-LAN
forwarding, protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, and extensive user
definable logging with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It features
support for all IP protocols and VPNs such as IPSec. and is easy to
configure and highly customizable. A filter script that makes your
firewall log more readable is also included.

Changes: Inline comments are now allowed in the MAC address / blocked
hosts files. The IANA reserved net list has been removed from rc.iptables.
There is a stricter FORWARD policy for the internal net, and better logging
of dropped FORWARD packets from the internal net. SNAT in combination with
FreeS/WAN should now work properly.

[006] - Ascii2Binary 2.3
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Sun, Feb 13th 2005 20:05

Utilities

About: The Ascii2Binary project consists of two complementary programs
that convert between textual and binary representations of numbers.
Ascii2Binary reads input consisting of textual representations of numbers
separated by whitespace and produces as output the binary equivalents. It
is useful for generating test data and linking programs that generate
textual output to programs that require binary input. Binary2Ascii
converts binary numbers to text. In both programs, the type and
size/precision of the input or output is selected using command line
flags.

Changes: Both programs are now fully internationalized. In addition to
providing access to translations, this allows them to adapt to the
different number formats used in different locales. A French translation
has been added.

that are compatible with some classic systems and user defined.

Changes: This release has many changes. New instructions and functions
were added. Several existing instructions and functions were improved.
Other new features include more command line options, new system vars,
regular expressions search and replace, and bidirectional POPEN.

Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use in your own software.

Changes: Due to a high number of bad files produced by broken software,
the MS05-002 exploit detector now only checks specific RIFF files. This
version also fixes a stability problem of clamav-milter/clamd, and
improves email scanning.

About: GeSHi is a generic syntax highlighter for PHP that takes any source
code and highlights it in XHTML and CSS. It features case-sensitive or
insensitive highlighting, auto-caps/non-caps of any keyword, an unlimited
scope for styling, the use of CSS in which almost any aspect of the source
can be highlighted, the use of CSS classes to massively reduce the amount
of output code, function-to-URL capabilities, line numbering, and much
more. Over 30 languages are supported, including Java, C, PHP, HTML, CSS,
SQL, Pascal, C++, XML, ASP, and ASM.

Changes: New to this build is a partial fix to the encoding problems for
the UTF-8 character set, and a new, smarter form of tab substitution for
when using the GESHI_HEADER_DIV header, so tabs are replaced with the
correct amount of spaces.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: HTML Parser is a Java library used to parse HTML in either a linear
or nested fashion. Primarily used for transformation or extraction, it
features filters, visitors, custom tags and easy to use JavaBeans. It is a
fast, robust, and well-tested package.

Changes: This long overdue release adds two main enhancements:
ConnectionManager and FilterBuilder. The ConnectionManager is part of the
org.htmlparser.http package that handles proxies, passwords and cookies.
The FilterBuilder is a GUI application to assist programmers in
constructing filters. Filters are a great tool for dealing with the "I
just need this little piece of information from this Web page" use-case.
The FilterBuilder creates Java source code for inclusion in other programs
and allows interactive testing and refining of filters.

Software Development :: Internationalization
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: LanguageSys is meant to internationalize your applications. It
handles the access to language files, which are based on an INI style. It
is possible to precompile the language files to increase the speed of
processing. This system is focused on being highly object-oriented, so it
makes the language aliases aviable as member variables of the own class.
It contains a system to fetch a list of all the available languages by a
given directory where the language files are located. A distinction of
languages is drawn as RFC1766 recommends. Examples, documentation, and a
simple script to precompile your language files are included.

Changes: The first (pre-)release of LanguageSys for Python. It still has
some huge errors in the serialization (precompilation) system, and does
not yet have an _init_.py file.

[057] - SCMxx 0.7.5
  by Hendrik Sattler (http://freshmeat.net/users/hsattler/)
  Sun, Feb 13th 2005 08:42

Communications :: Telephony

About: SCMxx is a console program that allows you to exchange certain
types of data with mobile phones made by Siemens. Some of the data types
that can be exchanged are logos, ring tones, vCalendars, vCards, phonebook
entries, and SMS messages. It works with the following phones: S25, C35i,

basically uses the AT command set published by Siemens (with some other
additional resources).

Changes: This release fixes the broken transparent pin processing and the
broken direct SMS receive mode. It is now possible to let scmxx find an

Security :: Cryptography

About: TnFOX is a modern secure, robust, multithreaded, exception aware,
internationalizable, portable GUI toolkit library designed for
mission-critical work in C++ and Python, forked from the FOX library. It
replicates the Qt API in many places, comes with a full set of Python
bindings, and has been designed primarily for Tn, the port of Tornado to
FOX.

Changes: This release features SMP and non-SMP builds. If a non-SMP build
is chosen, it now uses far faster FXAtomicInt primitive implementation at
assembler level resulting in some serious performance increases for
uni-processor machines (between 48% and 106%). There were more
optimisations in various places such as FXMutex, QDictBase, etc. The
nested exception handling framework was rewritten. FreeBSD v5.3 and
RedHat Fedora Core 3 support was added along with support for 64-bit
architectures. As per user request, the FXScrollBar was modified to use
64-bit ranges. FOX 1.4.1 was merged and the Python bindings were updated
to use Boost 1.3.2.

[072] - zsync 0.2.2
  by Colin Phipps (http://freshmeat.net/users/cph/)
  Sun, Feb 13th 2005 07:21

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: zsync is a client-side implementation of the rsync algorithm. It
allows updating of files from a remote Web server without requiring a
full download or a special remote server application. It uses a metafile,
which must be created on the server, to determine which parts of a file
the user already has; it then downloads the remaining parts via HTTP. No
special server or Web server module is needed. It can also look inside
gzip files, allowing efficient update transfers even when files are
compressed.

Changes: Minor improvements were made to the gzip file support and
documentation.
